Where to find models suitable as terminators for squats?

I have thought about using mantic's stormrage veterans or converting tau stealth suits.

thx in advance.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

The stealthsuit legs are all wrong for Squats, although if you add stubby legs to the Stealthsuit torso, that might work.

You coudl always try and find the old Squat Exo-suits. I'm sure E-bay will provide. Alternatively I'm sure I've seen newer stunty heavy power armour kicking about. somewhere.

One example is Hasslefree's Grymn. they even have a heavy armour version

The original Squats had terminator style armor available. It was called Exo-armor. Should not be hard to find some on ebay.

Mantic makes Forge Fathers, heavily armored space dwarves. They could definitely act as standins and are available in plastic.

That grymm looks really interesting. If I were to cut the torso and lower part of the legs and stick those to tau stealth suit it might look really cool. Shame the model is metal and doesn't really fit the forge father style on it's own.

I don't want to use the old school squat exo armour as it looks just silly. It's like somebody took Mr potato and stick horns and guns on it.

Unfortunately this pretty much defines the whole old Squat line There is a good reason the line was pulled...

People have made 'high-gravity-world marine" conversions, turning power armour models into...well, very short power armour models. The same could surely be done for termies? Can't find any sample pics on Google, alas.

Or high-tech up some armoured fantasy dwarves?

That is very cool. I thik the stormbolter barrels could do with a bit of tidying up, but otherwise it looks good. I like the cushioned head arrestor system

I went the High-G Marine route here:

I like the Tau suit for the conversion but the feet and gun barrels definitely need a little tidying up (and watch those mould lines/clipper marks). The rest looks good though.

Nice high gravity marines.

What would you suggest I do with the feet? I know there is some tidying up but the feet might look better with something extra.

My suggestion would be rounded feet like a space marine. The square feet don't suit the aesthetics of the rest of the conversion.

I would also suggest checking the distances between the top of the foot and the knee... they seem a little 'mid shin-bone' at the moment.

Good effort so far though ... just a little tinkering required.

The feet are slightly rounded. The design is similiar what you see in the shoulder pads. It is hard to see because of my awesome picture taking skillz and white plasticard.

I didn't go for the space marine feet because 1. it would be harder to make 2. it would be harder to blend it to the rest of the mini. Because the tau legs are goat like I needed to cut away the "extra" joint from the legs thus making the lower part of the legs shorter. I was hoping I could create an illusion that mini looks like hes wearing just really big ski boots (similiar to the csm armor style, csm don't have knee pads)

I don't know what to suggest then .

The feet look strange... maybe the slope at the front makes them look too tall and short in length (almost like the hooves you removed but squarer).

The blend from the feet to the lower leg may be the issue? Without better pix I can't say .

Looks very cool! The feet could be indeed rounded up a bit though. Also, I recommend removing the Tau signature from the shoulderpad, looks a bit too obvious.

They look better with the ink but I still think that they are a bit stubby... here is what I have come up with as an explanation of what I mean:

I'll throw a link into this thread when I get home tomorrow. I think I have the perfect model for you, if my memory serves me right. Infact, I'll see if my friend can drop the link in here tonight.

I like your suggestions Inso. I'll propably go for option 2 as the 1 is slightly tricky to accomplish without redoing the feet completely.

One thing I'd more would be stompiness. Squats ain't some dancing panzee so what if I add this "cushioning effect" under opton 2?

stompier option 2

There are several must-haves in a Squat army - and Exo-Armoured Hearthguard are several of them. Like Space Wolves and their Wolfguard, these heavily-armoured characters can be sprinkled around the army to bolster the ranks, or formed up into squads for real hitting power.

This model may've been influenced by the famous Sutton Hoo helmet. It's as though the Perry that sculpted these models saw it and thought "Hey! That would look great as a robot - all it needs are hands and feet."

Eagle-eyed amongst you would've noticed that there's a discarded RTB01 helmet on the base. This is to commemorate the Squats' victory against Mark's Storm Giants in our ongoing Golem army challenge. So great was the massacre of these green Marines that Mark has switched to collecting Ultramarines.
