I thought that I would start this thread so that Marbo can stop intruding on the IG tactics thread. He probably deserves his own thread anyway.

Edit: I suppose I should at least get the ball rolling. I find that Marbo can be a nice little harassment unit against squishy objective holders. Drop him in cover and see what you an pick off with his demo charge, then go to ground against return fire for a 2+ save. Not effective against things in area terrain though.

Oh, and never put him near flamers, especially s6 ones.

I think a discussion based solely on marbo is going to fail. His role is to infiltrate and distract all the other threads.

1-2 Marbo shows up in IG tactics thread, 3-4 Marbo shows up in IG mathhammer thread, 5-6 Marbo shows up in all IG related threads.

I think it's his time to turn up in other tactica threads too. "How would you deal with marbo?"

Also, Marbo cannot go to ground, as he is fearless, but he has stealth, so at least he's always running around with a 6+cover save...

A how-to guide to Marbo:

1. Get Marbo to show up and throw his det charge at your target.

2. That is all.

Why buy Marbo when he is easily one of the cheapest and easiest models to convert? And for that ease he is worth having on the shelf and he is fun in casual games.

No. The official model is awful. And you know all those stories about the awesome things Marbo does? Well, they only happen if you convert and paint an awesome model to go with the theme of your army.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I have never once seen an IG army that did not include him.

He really only has one use, but it's a doozy: he shows up anywhere at least 1" away from the enemy, throws his det charge, and delivers a single Str 8 AP 2 large blast. Then he gets shot to Hell, but it doesn't matter because he probably just wiped out at least 5 times his own points cost, so it's a great tradeoff.

And if by some miracle he doesn't get killed immediately, he's also got some meltabombs.

I think his Ripper Pistol is unique, but it's got the sniper rule and is poison, I believe... so anything with a suitably goofy look to it and a scope should do it.

it doesn't need a scope, Marbo has naturally telescopic-chink-in-the-armor-detector eyes ... because he's Marbo

I'd say you at least need a pistol, sword and melta/demo.
I used FW Cadian, GW Cadian and GW Catachan bits and came up with this:

He does not usually kill 325 points with his demo charge. I have never seen him doing that in all battles I have watched and all reports I have read. This claim is just silly.

My experience with Marbo is so far not good. In my games, he did not yet kill anything apart from 2 eldar soldiers. In 5th edition, my meta was all around vehicles and he did not destroy any. In 6th edition, there are things with intercept rule, which kills him right after he arives (you can place him somewhere where he is not seen but if your opponent is savvy, you will not be in range for demo charge then). But I continue to play him anyways, he is funny.

I've been thinking of a Guard list allied with Slaanesh Daemons. Marbo was almost a auto-include for his synergy with deepstriking and Lash of Paven. A mini-lash that moves a unit D6". Anyone try that?

lol, HE'S RIGHT BEHIND YOUR THREAD!!!

As for what I've used for marbo when I've taken him, was my old 4th ed converted veteran sergeant that I have lying around without much use otherwise.

That said, I don't bring marbo anymore. He's the hunter-killer missile of the world of artillery. Very expensive for just one shot.

Find more points and take a real artillery piece instead.

If he wasn't elite, I wouldn't take him.
But 2x melta storms and marbo work really well. Marbo can fit in spots that 5 storm troopers can't.
I don't mind paying 30 points to get my vets melta bombs and a demo pack, so I sure don't mind paying 65 for a place anywhere on table demo-pack and melta bomb.
Since marbo isn't on the table turn 1, he's not giving up first blood (my chimeras do that).

And I'd rather have another heavy support than marbo; but I already maxed my heavy supports.

For my IG army, I'm working on some Metal Gear Solid-themed minis, so I'm gonna do a Solid Snake (or probably Big Boss) Marbo. I'll post pics when he's done.

Not mine (or the route I'll be pursuing), but a classic Marbo in any case:

Earlier today marbo single handedly wiped the table. By that I mean I spent 4 turns shooting up terminators for him to show up and kill off 7 marines with plasma cannons (7 bloody cannons in 1 squad, dammit forgeworld pre-heresy world eaters!), ending the game.
Last game marbo showed up and killed nothing, he threw his demo at a maulerfiend and rhino, dead on hit, no glances/pens.
Previous game marbo showed up with some storm troopers, killed 3 guardsmen and then charged killing 5 more. My opponents marbo (was a pretty cool conversion, chaos lord from fantasy with some greenstuff) came in and did no wounds to any guardsmen then promptly getting shot to pieces after "Get back into the fight".

He's weird. He's a gamble. When he works he kills a 300+ pt squad on his own, when he doesn't work he doesn't kill a single guardsmen.
