Subject: Team Tourney game 1 (1000 pts)

Participated in a team Adepticon practice tournament this weekend. Three games, 2 players per team, 1000 pts per player. One warlord per team. Terrain is already set up, but fortifications are the first thing set up after table sides are chosen. Armies: I had a variation of a Mantis Warrior list that I'm considering. HQ: Pedro Kantor EL: 5x sternguard, 2 PCs TP: 10 tacs, LC, flamer, rhino TP: 10 tacs, LC, flamer, rhino Hvy: 5 devs, 4x ML ADL + quad gun My partner for the day had 2 units of chaos marines in rhinos. A unit of havocs, bikes and a lord. Our opponents had Draigo and a ton of paladins in one list, and a mixed batch of marines, TL Las razorback, attack bikes and bikes in the other (as well as their own quad gun defense line). The marine list also had a captain on a bike so the bikes could be taken as troops. Mission: Diagonal deployment. Primary - Team member with lowest kill points are the kill points for the team (i.e. if one team mate has gotten 3 kill points and the other only 1, the team's kill points = 1). Secondary - Control two objectives in center of "neutral" quarters. Tertiary - line breaker, kill the warlord, first blood Deployment: They have first turn & deploy thussly. Thank God they decide not to DS Draigo into the midst of our lines. We deploy: They have outflanking bikes so I leave the rhinos at home to shield the rest of the army from attack. Strategy: Stay 24+" away from the paladins... kill the other guy. Turn 1: We steal it. Chaos bikes move up. We pour fire into the razorback and the quad gun & manage to blow up the razorback. They move forward & kill some bikes. Turn 2: We start our dash for the objective. More shooting. Wound an attack bike and take out their quad gun.... killed a crewmen or two I think. Their bikes come on. Join with attack bikes in doing a number on my rhino & killing some more (perhaps all) of the chaos bikes. Turn 3: A chaos rhino full of dudes heads over towards the battle. We gun down the attack bikes, make the guys who were manning the quad gun fall back, do some damage to the regular bikes. They return fire & the rhino explodes, some chaos guys and the bikes charge in. When the dust settles, things look like this. Turn 4: All my tac elements move up to help secure the objective. The captain with power sword is proving to be very resilient, much to our chagrin. However... Draigo has no kills, so were still up on the Primary. The Captain cleans up the chaos squad including the Lord. Now he threatens to contest the objective. Turn 5: Everything that can shoots the captain... he survies. In his half, he moves close enough to contest the objective. Thus securing a win of the secondary for his team. But wait... what's that you say? That's an exploding objective and we have to see if it blows up? OK... and it DOES?? And it wounded the Captain?? And he failed his saving throw!!??? And he only had one wound left?!!!! Game, set, match. (oh thank you Lady Luck!) I don't remember exactly but I think we had 2 "team" kill points at games end. So, by holding Draigo to zero kill points (by running away), we won primary, tied secondary, and took 2 tertiary points. 22 to 7 I think. Nice victory. Fun game. Our basic strategy worked, though it was a LOT harder to deal with the SM player than either of us thought. We poured a ton of heavy weapons fire into him and a lot just seemed to bounce off. If Drago would have dropped into the midst of us (or even close enough to be able to shoot... we would have been toast. Our opponents were great and kept good humor throughout.

Captain on bike allows bikes to be taken as troops, does not make bikes scoring.

Ah, good to know. Wouldn't have made much of a difference in any case. Fixed the OP though.

I can't check the codex right now, for wording.

I'm sorry to not be 100% on the new edition but if bikes are troops and troops are scoring, why wouldn't troop bike squads be scoring?

They are scoring. But, they must be taken as troops. So, if there was a troop limit (as Adepticon has), taking bikes as Fast Attack would mean they're NOT scoring.

I don't think he had more than 3 troop squads all-together. And he could have had 2 FA slots to boot so either way you slice it his army list was fine.

Nice report - smaller games can be a lot of fun, as you really have to think about what's in your army list...

Nice Bat Rep, and congrats on the victory!
I still love how the MWs look on the TT, especially with the brand new Aegis Line....

Yeah... your margin of error is much tighter with a small game. Though really this is 2k per side, but since each person only controls half of that it has a small game feel to it.

His GK didn't contribute to the battle at all. Poor Tactics. Looks like they foot slogged it on the right side of your board. You we lucky he didn't DS for sure; you would have been caught between the Gk and bikes attack.

Great rep, not much to add but as a gk player looks like a very sound 2k force got hampered by very poor tactics. Getting LCs into support GKs is potent; I guess the next step for you guys is how to adapt to such an army/team if played to its fullest potential. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and of course, Grats on the win!

Well, Rudy isn't one of my regular team mates... just a partner I snagged for the day. Fun person to play with though.
Oh, and of course, Grats on the win!
You say that now... wait until you see the NEXT bat rep!
(was supposed to have it up today but my photos ended up in the wrong place on the wrong medium... tomorrow definitely)
