Hi all

This holiday season has been unusually productive, scenery wise.

This piece has been done for a friendly competition over at Terragenesis. The theme was "MacGyvering" - represent something that has been repurposed to something else.

I have put more photos and all the WIP shots here: http://nothingunpainted.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-rhino-of-rottenness.html

The Rhino Of Rottenness represents a fallen mechanical beast of the Grey Knights, turned now to the production of noisome and nocent plagues by the followers of Nurgle.

The motor in the drive compartment now pumps liquids in and out of the brew tank (the crew compartment). The still outside brews the secret ingredient that has to be handled with copper buckets on account of it being so dangerous.

In trying to keep with the MacGyver theme I taped a lot of the pipes together with "duct tape" (thin strips of insulation tape) but when it was painted black it looked, well, unpainted and so was repainted khaki.

The sandbags were added late in the project as the piece was looking a little sparse. They will justify giving anyone inside the area terrain a cover save.

- The rhino is made from cardboard.
- The base is a piece of expanded polystyrene covered with white glue and then sand.
- The barrels, buckets and jerry cans are from a Tamiya set.
- The wooden bucket is scratch built, as is the still (from a Guiness widget).
- All piping are flexi straws.
- The valve control wheels are press studs.
- The sandbags are Milliput.

very nice terrain piece. I'm amazed that rhino is made from cardboard. I can see it if I look closely enough, but if you hadn't mentioned it I never would have noticed. very impressive!

I got some constructive feedback from Terragenesis along the lines of "it isn't nurgly enough" and "there is not enough goop" and so this is getting some more work done.

Rice maggots are being added

A trench has been gouged out to allow an extra barrel (this one fallen over and spilling its contents)

I have painted up an extra brass bucket to also be fallen and spilled (to explain the existing puddle)

I think it looks good as is. What is it with people wanting to go over the top with nurgle stuff? Sometimes it really is: less is more.

Ok so here is the new version

The four little pics show where the goo has been added:

- top left... added resin inside the bucket on the top
- top right... added overflow from both sides of the barrel
- bottom left... tipped over barrel creating a new puddle
- bottom right... spilled bucket creating other puddle

The maggots that were added were rice grains.

To be honest, I liked the first incarnation more than the nurgled-up version. It had this "moonshining rednecks" feel, which looked great!

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

Super piece; I agree with the above. I also love the Guinness widget usage. Really great, creative project.

The only constructive feedback I can think of is that it could use a few more/slightly higher raised elements to "feel" right (for my subjective sense) for a piece of area terrain. If the sandbag walls were a little higher and/or there were another of them it might suit me a little better in terms of looking at it on the table and immediately thinking area terrain.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Excellent work, whilst I also prefer the original incarnation on this piece, the 2nd version is also really good.
