Hello all,

Well I'm new to all of this. Just bought a Dark Vengeance box and some paint. I really liked the Imperial Fists colors but since the box is Dark Angels, I decided to paint me a Angels of Vigilance army since the colors are similar, they are a chapter of the Dark Angels and I think they need a bit of love. It was hard to find references on the web so I did my own version.

It's my first time painting so keep that in mind but I'm opened to critics (that's why I'm here anyways).

Cheers,

Those look great! Really great for being your first models. I would be proud to field those marines.

Thanks both of you. I found so many tutorials online, that was a great help. I know the yellow is more deep and orange then other Vigilance I've seen but I liked it better. I'm slowly working my way to the bikes in the box and I've done a few Chaos for fun. I'll try and post those soon.

What he said, definately. And Kudos to you for picking a lesser-known Chapter

"The Emperor Protects - And having a loaded Bolter never hurt either !" - Proteus and Pythor, Ultramarines, The Movie.

Nothing in life is so exhilirating as being shot at without result - Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)

Relativly new 40k'r here myself. Kudos on the paint scheme and painting skill. Don't worry Yellow is the bane of most painters and you managed to do it very well for your first army.

Keep up the good work.

My secret : watched and read so many tutorials. So many great painters out there.

I saw someone using a yellow primer on Imperial fists. Just that alone helps a lot on yellow paint it seems. Then I used GWs yellow base with water to thin it a bit, some Sephia wash on top and a dry brush of the base color after to clean it up.

As for the skin tone, in all the tutorials, everyone seem to have about 100 pots of paints and since I'm new, I didn't want to spend that much money to have 5 shades of skin color, so I bought a black and a white. It's amazing how many shades you can get with only 3 pots of paint. The base was Reaper tanned skin mixed with some white to get a shade I liked. Some wash on that's and a drybrushing of a lighter version of that skin tone.

Mixing colors gets great results. I'm really liking the red I created on the plasma guns.

Well i'd imagine that an army full of Marines painted to this standard would be a sight to see.

For a first time painter, those are awesome.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."
