I just purchased the Honoured Imperium set from GW and I play Chaos. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/tips/pointers on desecrating the statue to make it look as if Chaos troops had left their mark for loyalists. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There was a WD that covered this. Let me see if I can find it when I get home. The only parts I remember were crudely crossing out the aquilla, giving it a chaos halo from the vehicle sprue, and wrapping barbed wire from the basing kit around the eyes as a blindfold. There were also greenstuff candles IIRC.

Perhaps 'knock' the head off and replace it with some mocking/chaotic equivalent? (Idea blatantly stolen from Lord of the Rings book and film )

Painting or gouging a chaos icon across the shield would be good too.

And/or completely 'knock' the statue off its plinth?

OK, I found it. It's WD #369, October 2010. I'm too tired to hook up the scanner, so I hope these cell images, hosted offsite, will do.

this one's a little blurry but it's just a different paint job so whatever, good enough.

I SURE WISH THIS ARTICLE WAS ON THEIR WEBSITE SOMEWHERE. You can get it here, instead

Also, the candles aren't GS, they are from this scenery pack. According to the overleaf on a (non-pictured) page, the designer used "more than a couple" to make this scene. At $30 USD for 4 candles, you might want to use GS and some tubing instead.

The first thing that cane to my mind was that scene in the Return of the King where a statue has had it's head removed and replaced with a misshapen boulder wrapped in metal. You could do similar here and have the original head as a separate small terrain piece with some undergrowth over it.

Thanks for all the good ideas, I think knocking the head off would be cool if I get a second one. But I really like the WD one with the barbed wire as a blindfold with the spikes all over it. Thank you Ouze for taking the time to scan that in. You are a scholar and a gentleman, or the chaos equivalent. A heretic and a defiler?

You could scratch out the face, make it look like someone took a gun or chisel to it.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

More then just the face. All the imperial eagles and the shield should look like someone took a heavy bolter or autocannon to them for target practice. A shattered body of some IoM trooper (IG, SM, or SoB) could adorn the base, while their blood serves as paint for chaos symbols.

Another option would be to have the statue in the midst of change. Either standing proud as it's slowly turned into slime by some Nurgle infestation, or caught in the process of change into some demonic effigy.

I was thinking about having some sort of SM body hanging from barbed wire, after the great ideas from Ouze and WD. But I'm not sure how to make the arms and legs look dead, I have a bunch of spare bits for SM kits but all of the arms look too alive. Any suggestions?

I would leave it just as it is, but free hand some graffiti, "The Emperor Drinks His Own Pee."

"The Emperor Drinks His Own Pee," this shall be immortalized on something, maybe not the statue, but something. I have some renegade mortar crews that have brick walls on their bases, they might think enjoy a good pee joke.

I say knock the head off, and add melting around the neck, as if someone took an anti-tank energy weapon to it.

Have a space marine/guardsman hanged or crucified on it.

Daub chaos symbols over the aquila, maybe with the aforementioned sacrifice's blood.

Add tentacles/chaos symbols/warp melting.

Possibly a bit nondescript, but you could just subtly have a flamer leaning against the eagle plinth, with lhuman shaped scorch marks on the eagle and the remains of legs poking out of some boots on top of it.
Either that, or just full blown carnage with sacrifices spreadeagled all over the place

Maybe piles of dead IG or Imperial subjects at the base and a message (in blood of course) "Where is your Emperor now?"

This is what I have so far. I liked the barbed wire theme, because it fits pretty well with my Iron Warriors. I'm not sure I want to mess with the big Aquila because I'm worried figures won't stand on it anymore. I'm thinking about adding some gore and a chaos star in blood.
