Welcome!

This is a battle report for these two armies. Both commissions and I rarely do two at the same time, so I thought it a fun opportunity to take some pictures and make a narrative. This is not a competitive game, so you are welcome to talk about decisions made, but note that it was really all in fun.

Nurgle Traitors:

54th Krieg:

<SCRIBESERV.3943> Commander...l
<SCRIBESERV.3943> Incoming forces. Numerous and heavily armed..l
<54th.Comm.DAX> Hostility?
<SCRIBESERV.3943> Severe sir. Traitors. All CCSkull .reportcount...l
<CCSHUB> REPORTING...l
<CCSHUB> 1 WARHOUND CLASS TITAN...l
<CCSHUB> 1 MALCADOR CLASS HEAVY ARMOR...l
<CCSHUB> 2 LEMAN RUSS B AND E CLASS...l
<CCSHUB> 6 CHIMERA PLATOON...l
<CCSHUB> 1 AIR SUPPORT...l
<CCSHUB> 2 HYDRA CLASS ANTI AIR...l
<CCSHUB> 1 HELLHOUND...l
<CCSHUB> 1 MANTICORE HEAVY ARTILLERY...l
<CCSHUB> MULTIPLE FOOT PATROLS AND CAVALRY...l
<54th.Comm.DAX> Report to all squad leaders and command: Abandon all positions City Hall and set up a perimeter to the south in the more fortified Manufacturing sector. All artillery south as well with armored support. I want airlifted light artillery on the Administration building, and all men inside at this time to head for the roof, this will be an assault from the streets. We need air support and we need it now!..l
<54th.L.C.RAMAR> Roger. Taking point above Admin...l
<54th.P.O.AJAX> LHOs inbound, mark the rooftop DZ. I feel bad for these guys!...l
<54th.L.FUBIJAR> City Hall clear, moving to rooftops...l
<54th.Comm.DAX> Good luck gentlemen, let's see what this artillery can do!...l

Commander Dax removed his scribe tool and climbed the stairs to the top of a guard post. The rumble of the enemy was beginning to grow louder, and he could just make out smoke in the streets a few blocks away. The enemy was a lumbering war machine that would not stop for any soldier, armor, or obstacle. They would have to be stopped before they hit our lines, he thought, as the artillery was towed and unlimbered below.

SETUP

(Note the Warhound was just for looks, we thought it too unbalancing to actually use in this game )

Valkyrie 1
10 Veterans, 2 Grenade Launchers

Valkyrie 2
10 Veterans, 2 Flamers

2x Vendetta

2x Hydra

Company Command Squad, 1x Plasma

2x Hydras

Helicopter (Vendetta)

3x Thudd Gun

3x Mortar

2x Lascannon

Company Command Squad, 2 Plasma

Manticore

Leman Russ Executioner

Leman Russ

Malcador

5 Death Riders

Demon Prince of Nurgle with Wings

Hellhound

Medusa

Chimera 1
10 Genadiers, Heavy Flamer, Meltagun

Chimera 2
10 Veterans, 2 Flamers

Chimera 3
10 Veterans, 2 Grenade Launchers

10 Veterans on foot, two Plasmaguns

10 Cultists of Nurgle (Guardsmen with 2 attacks but no ranged weapon)

6 Chimeras with Dozer Blades

5 Ogryn (301)

3x10 Veterans with Flamers (302-304)

2x10 Veterans with Meltaguns (305-306)

Hellhound

1 Company Command Squad
1 Commissar

1 Basalisk

3 Medusa Heavy Artillery

10 Veterans, 2 Plasmaguns

3 Autocannon teams

On a roll off, 54th wins 5-3 to go first!

54th Turn 1

Valkyries and assault team move forward to meet the enemy. Medusa splits off and begins lobbing shells at the enemy heavy support.

First Blood Medusa takes the first shot of the battle and obliterates the Executioner, taking a Death Rider with it. Explosions [ON] [OFF]

The Basalisk fires down the street, but fails to connect with anything.

From atop the Administration building, mortar and Thudd fire takes out a couple of crazies, and a well placed lascannon shot with direction from the second in command destroys a Chimera, spilling it's Ogryn contents onto the battlefield. It could've been worse!

The Autocannon teams with leadership from the Commander destroy a traitor Chimera. 2 out of 6 Chimeras now out of the fight! The footslogging unit redeploys to the rear of the building for a better view of the incoming armor.

Other less interesting events this turn:

- The first Medusa artillery barrage of the game fails to hit anything.
- The Hydras fail to correctly adjust for wind, and only glance the chopper. However it was knocked off course and won't be returning any fire next turn!

Traitors Turn 1

The helicopter veers to the left of the field to take cover and regain control. Lurking in from the side streets, a Hellhound spews a douse of chemical onto the guardsmen and takes a few out before they get behind cover. The autocannon team takes a casualty from returning multi laser fire.

"May day! May day!" Traitor Hydras take down an incoming Valkyrie, which spins out of control and crashes to the ground, with a few survivors.

The remaining Leman Russ loads an anti-armor round and puts it straight into the Hydra. KABOOM!

As the Valkyrie crashes and burns, the enemy Manticore locks on to the Admistation building and fires. One mortar team is taken out from a direct hit while the others dive behind their guns.

The Hellhound meets the mighty armament of the Malcador as it rounds the corner and is obliterated before it has had a chance to fire!

Well played traitors, well played!

54th Turn 2

Vendetta lascannon fire destroys a Hydra, while a Death Rider is unfortunately directly impacted by a wandering Thudd shell.

The Medusa artillery finally zeros in on the incoming armor, and inflicts some, while not devastating, widespread damage on the enemy. All shots aimed at the Ogryn, the first veers to the left and takes the Multilaser off the 305. The second goes right and does the same to 303. The third and final shot lands a hit on the Ogryn and turns two to mist.

Smaller mortars fire at the crazies in front again and take out a few. The two lascannon teams also atop the Administration building fire upon the front Chimera and take off two hull points.

The footslogging veterans realize the danger of the incoming Hellhound and make a do or die play to destroy it. Four shots ring out, all miss the armor, one guardsman erupts in flame! The Autocannon team sees the commotion below and retrains their weapons on the Hellhound. Direct impacts, destroyed!

The Basalisk fires again down the road and this time hits the Malcador straight in the nose, ripping off it's demolisher cannon. Retribution!

A couple of aerial shots of the battle so far.

Traitors Turn 2

Despite missing it's Demolisher cannon, the Malcador rips open the command Chimera. The veterans inside hop out and get cover from the incoming enemy transports and infantry. The survivors of the crash are assaulted. Just can't catch a break!

Transports advance, while others run along on foot. A few Krieg are picked off but most focus is on advancing under fire.

Using City Hall as cover, the chopper swings around and up to get the drop on the enemy. The top of the second building takes more fire from the enemy Manticore. That thing needs to be taken out!

54th turn 3

Autocannons fire upon the closest Chimera and rack up their third armor kill for the battle. These guys are getting promoted!

While they only cause a few casualties, the Medusas provide heavy covering fire for the advancing infantry.

"You've got to destroy that Malcador no matter what!"

The Grenadiers get the order and scramble from out of cover. The gunner's squad mates keep the crazies at bay while he takes aim and makes one shot, which cores through the Malcador and finds something explosive, which bursts open the front of the tank. Morale across the army raises as all turn to see the mushroom cloud and cheer.

The enemy commander is not too pleased to see his favorite toy destroyed as he regroups from wiping out the crash survivors.

Traitors turn 3

"Cut out that racket!"

The chopper hovers and delivers it's payload of guardsmen.

Multiple units including the enemy commander charge into the Grenadiers. The Traitor Russ takes cover from the Medusa and Vendettas and instead stares down the Basalisk, wrecking it before it has a chance to return fire.

The Traitors assault the second HQ squad (oops) and wipe them out! First HQ taken for the battle.

The renegades converge on the Krieg defense of City Hall.

The Traitor elements that split left run down the footslogging Krieg. An autocannon team is lost!

54th turn 4

"That's it run 'em over if you have to, everyone out, don't let them take the hall, get the wounded out of there!"

Tank shock, and all pile out. Time for a last stand!

It's a bloodbath! Previously rotten, now burnt flesh covers the streets. The flamers in one squad took care of the immediate threat before the lasguns could fire, while great shooting from the second squad wiped them to the man. But not to get cocky too soon, the battle is not over as the Grenadiers are killed and the Traitors turn for revenge for their fallen comrades.

"Defend the guns!"

Traitors turn 4

Distracted by enemy armor, the Vendetta squad fails to see the chopper come around behind them. The helicopter fires with lascannons and rips one apart, causing it to spin and crash to the ground.

"Huh? ... Hey!"

Kaboom!

(Yes that is actually as it happened. We forgot there was a plasmagun in that HQ squad.)

The renegade onslaught is relentless. The traitors do take casualties but they are winning the war of attrition in close combat.

Renegades finally make it to the Manufacturing Sector and fire upon the battlements, taking out the final autocannon. The Chimera fires upon the Medusa crew at point black range, and relative safety.

Final Turn

The Valkyrie unloads, two flamers doing in the HQ squad on the roof. Mission accomplished and revenge taken for their fallen comrades.

BREEMBREEMBREEM! The Vendetta, upon being wracked from the explosion of its partner, spins in place and fires on the chopper. The hovering chopper at close range is an easy target, and it goes up in flames!

The 54th Commander decides to advance and take care of the last of the enemy himself. The squad fires upon a few remnants, destroying them.

The Death Riders and infantry are destroyed on the traitor side, but things are looking grim for what's left of the Krieg!

The battle on the rooftops begins to tire out. Trading off a casualty or two per turn.

Nurgle proves victories in the center! On to the next fight...

Result!

In terms of pure objective, it is a draw. Nurgle was the first to take an HQ on the Administration building, but the 54th came around with a surprise flamer attack near the end of the game, catching the Traitor second in command flat footed. There was likely no way, short of lucky lascannon fire, for the 54th to take the Demon Prince. The Krieg army could have put more effort into taking it out early. The Nurgle had a hard time as well with the first in command of the Krieg, but not because of toughness, but because it was hard to get to. The biggest guns of the Imperial line were defending the first HQ at the Manufacturing Sector.

MVPs

Krieg MVP - Definitely those Autocannon teams! Three armored vehicles is great for a BS3 unit. Everything in the army performed well, every part took something with it, but the Autocannons really went to town!

Runner Up - Medusa Artillery. A lot of fun to play with and they almost make the table shake! When they hit they really hurt. When they miss it feels extra disappointing.

Nurgle MVP- The Demon Prince. It didn't necessarily kill a lot of points, but it put the hurt where it counted and tipped the center for the Traitors.

Runner Up - The Chopper. It was fun to watch it zoom around the table, and the conversion added a lot of character. As funny as it was annoying!

Well, I hope you enjoyed the battle report, and I hope to post more when I get a chance.

Until next time.

One of the most amazingly beautiful battle reports I've ever read/seen.

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007

First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.

@ gpfunk, I don't think he built the chopper, if I recall correctly, it was converted by his client who sent it to him to paint.

I love that helicopter, I was thinking of doing a similar thing with my vendettas in regards to the man roping down, using stands from the HWT as an a-frame and some kind of thing draping down with a guy on it. My questions;

1. What did you use as the string?
2. What model did you use sliding and how much conversion work was needed?

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Pretend you are making a bush, that is orange on the inside, and you get the general idea. Pretty easy, but these were rushed (I forgot to start them until day before and I really wanted them for the report) and you can kinda tell that they are flock still. I will likely make a lot more as I was having to shuffle them around for photos as well.

I already had a good luck at pretty much all the models you have posted on Dakka, and heck they are beautiful.
