Hello Dakka!

I have taken it upon myself to attempt and base my footguard...

I have never based an army before (too lazy ) but I want to start with my first army if I do.

However, my question is, does anyone have a good idea for bases that would suggest the guardsmen were patrolling through something akin to a wheat field? Knee high grass on the base of something like that? I haven't been able to think of any way to do it yet, and I was wondering if anyone out there had done something similar before?

Thanks!

United kingdom (derby)

Garden brush bristles cut to length should do it not sure how good it would look covering an entire base iv only ever used them for small sections on swamp bases or next to rivers for reeds ?

I've seen good wheat fields done using deep pile door mats. You get light ones that match the colour quite well. You could even save time and effort by havin a waist high pile and just embedding torsos in the matting why bother with legs if they are hidden!

You are a genius! Any idea where I could get those, home depot, lowes, or walmart I guess?

Picked up a doormat today, and it's working pretty well! Just thought you guys might want to see a bit of the product!

That works really well. I had seen it used for small scale fields but never as 25mm basing material. I would recommend doing something withthe base edges, but otherwise its great.

Id say just paint all the rims of the bases black and you got yourself a rather coherent looking group. Maybe clean up some of the stray pieces of mat

Thanks guys! I will definitely fix up the bases, I was thinking either black or the kind of tan color that their uniforms are. I'm going to go back in with a knife and fix the worst strays later, might take a lighter and burn some of the edges by the flamer guy too. I'll keep updating here til I get the finished bases though!

Wow...that looks way better than I thought it would when I was reading it. Base all the things and post more pics. I think you just got an easy basing method for a whole army.

It's turning out really well, and my whole army is going to be done this way (as soon as I get around to doing it anyway)

Here is the first squad again, and the flying base of a halfway painted valkyrie I just got
*Note* my camera made the yellow color look really weird, but IRL it is much closer to a butternut or a burlap color than the bright yellow it looks in the picture.

Also, I apologize for the bad pictures, I just took them on my HTC and I'm by no means a gifted photographer...
