Hi All. OK, so I rather dislike GW heldrakes model. Not that it's bad - it's tremendous mechanical dragon, but the concept of dragon itself for Chaos is just weird for me. I decided to make two scrap heldrakes. In both cases I wanted general outline to resemble one of original GW model.

Because I spend some much time on these, I really lack objectivity at the moment. It would help me a lot if you could share your opinions on my WIP.

First HD is meant to be an addition for Thousand Sons. I wanted it to be similar to automated fighters with no real place for a cockpit. I tried also to give it an aggressive look and maintain some kind of stripes pattern to be painted blue-gold 1k sons way. I didn't had any Tzeentch and/or 1k sons symbols, so I'm planning to make some stencils when painting.

Second HD is totally different story. It's meant for Nurgle army and I wanted to give it a rusty and rotten look. Obviously it needs to be navigated by at least three nurglings! Bent beams are intentional here. Possibly only gas-bladders make this pile of junk fly.

huh, i personaly love the Hell drake model. that being said i like the way these look, mostly. i think you should look at the HD model for some more insperation, maybe add a head on them, or some arm's/claws. but you could also get a heldrake and use it as parts for these guys.

but they look good! i cant wait to see them painted

Cool idea

The first one looks backwards and upside down to me... I'm actually not sure which direction it is supposed to be flying. Assuming the flamer portion is the front then I think you could flip the the wings over and swap them it would work a bit better. Also, the shorter wings should be moved back...

i like the idea of the first HD. but if i would have to suggest some improvements a less flat body would come to mind. if you look at airplanes, animals or dragons they normally have a cylindrical main body. stuf fleshing out the main boddy plus maybe a bit more distinct head would be a good start. do you know anybody who plays fantasy vampires? the terrorgheist kit comes with two heads and a lot spare bits which would fit well.

I like them, the first one has that warp possesed look that possessed marines or mutilators have.

I think the second one needs a longer front just to make it easier to tell the front from the back. Other then that its awesome.

Well they look a little bit crudely made and unfinished. Just a basic shape with hot glue splattered all over. That beeing said i like the basic shape of them. You just should improve the detailing on them a little bit more.

The first one is a little bit to fleshy in my opinion for a thousand son one. You could either remove most of the thicker hot glue and work some more details onto the main body or add to the random mutation that is tzeench with additional stuff like gaping maws, tentacles and eyes. You could also add some sort of spiked spine along the "neck" of the flamethrower.

I like the second one more. And here i would add more fleshy bits especially on the main body as it looks a little bit to boxy there. I would also add more framework to the "wings" to get a rusty and bent scaffolding look.
Another cool idea would be to replace the air ballons with tanks filled with toxic waste driping down to the ground and add rotors like the forgeworld blight drone behind the wings next to the main body.
Something like this:

Maybe a zeppelin design for the Nurgley one, and more bird like for the 1k-sons. What are the glue streamers all over the 1k-sons supposed to be, lightning?

Guys, thanks for great feedback! This is my first time with scrap building, so any thoughts are highly appreciated!

@death_scythe: Thanks for kind words! Don't get me wrong, HD model itself is great, but I don't like the idea of a dragon in CSM army. When you look on older machines made by Dark Mechanicum you will not notice similar animal-like shapes... Chaos is meant to be weird, odd and frightening. But that's just my taste So I don't want to have any claws etc. Highly stylised head might be good though - I will try to make something.

@clively: Haha, thanks. Well I tried to mimic the shape of HD after all, hence wings done that way.

@kuzao: You're right. I need to make the first one less flat.

@Rotgut: Thanks, that look of possessed fighter is exactly something I tried to achieve here.

@btldoomhammer: Wow, man. Thanks for comprehensive feedback! Yes, blight drone idea is perfect. I considered that, but didn't had anything to make rotors. I saw once a model made from old (small) CPU fans, unfortunately I didn't had any. Doing them from scratch is beyond my abilities I gave Nurgle one to my friend, so let's see what he will do with that For now I will focus on 1k sons. I was thinking about using flesh there and in the end decided that HD as a daemon wasn't affected by Rubric of Ahriman. So your hint to make some Tzeentch-like mutations is probably something I will use. I'm thinking also about what kuzao said, so I need to make this fighter less flat.

@xraytango: Glue is there to mimic flesh melted together with the metal. I was trying to get an effect similar to mutilators etc.

They look okay, but seem to need more to make them pop.

Right now they literally just look like scrap.
