Background for my custom chapter, known as the spectral swords partly using the deathwatch background generator for things that I was uncertain of.

Gene-seed deficiencies (I got multiple instabilities and then rolled a 6 on the d3 so I get 3 instabilities,): Mutated catalepsean node, ooletic secretions, and lost zygote: sue-an membrane. <--- using generator.

extra custom flaw:

Humanity above all else: This chapter believes that insuring the survival of the human race is their priority, meaning that, they are overly sympathetic to human civilians and will not believe that collateral damage is acceptable.



actual fluff: After fulfilling their purpose of defeating the nova-terra rebellion at the price of their home world, the spectral swords were given the ancient star fort retribution as their new fortress monastery which was quickly modified into a battle barge of immense proportions. The fleet based chapter was then sent to the cruor sector of the eastern fringe in an effort to suppress a growing ork waaaagh. during the fighting against waaaagh skraptoof a deathwatch fortress monastery was destroyed.when the spectral swords arrived, they found many of the orks dead, and only gretchin still scavenging the armories now split open from the ork assault. The chapter quickly loaded most of the armaments that they found into thunderhawks headed back to the chapter fleet. When the when ordo xenos asked for the armaments back, the chapter refused, claiming that the armaments were rightfully theirs. Thus, relationships between the spectral swords and the deathwatch have been strained at the best of times.

The spectral swords settled in the cruor sector, and became one of the more prominent chapters of the eastern fringe until the events of the geed rebellions. The geed rebellions began in .861 m41 with the local business man known as Rafded Geed convincing the peasant class of the hive world Carnef that the tau would raise their living standards and free them from their tyrannical government. What started as a riot at the manufactorums soon exploded into a full scale rebellion with much of the pdf joining the revolutionaries and tau forces landing in support of the rebels.

The planet soon fell, and the promise of a better quality of life was soon delivered, and the revolution spread to neighboring planets, each one succeeding and the planet's wealth increasing exponentially. Finally one planet remained against the tau and traitor forces when the spectral swords arrived. The remaining imperial forces fought valiantly against the tau and began to gain ground until one fateful day.

Two devastator squad of the 6th company was charged with supporting the assault against the tau held city of Saint Antoine when they began to open fire on imperial forces. This anomaly turned into widespread disaster. The entire 6th, 10th 4th 9th 2nd and 8th companies turned and attacked imperial forces, The only loyalist Spectral sword forces that escaped the disaster were half of the 7th company, four squads from the 1st company, the entire 5th company. 6 squads from varied traitor companies also escaped. the flagship of the chapter fleet was captured in the engagement, along with 3/4 of the chapter fleet. Out of fuel, the remaining loyalist ships exited the warp and began to rebuild their chapter on one of nimbosa's moons. After the rebuilding of the 7th company and the reorganization of the squads from traitor companies and the first company into the 11th company, the Spectral Swords gathered their allies and launched an invasion of the now tau occupied Cruor sector.


Variations from the codex astartes: Each company contains 3 sternguard squads in edition to the normal 10 squads plus support troops.

After the loss of their recruitment worlds, the spectral swords have recruited neophytes from imperial guard regiments. Another questionable method the spectral swords use to rebuild their chapter is the acceptance of marines from other chapters into their ranks. If the spectral swords find a marine that has disgraced their former chapter, or has lost their parent chapter entirely, the they are taken into the spectral swords and marked with a blue stripe on their right shoulder pad. The spectral swords chapter symbol is present on the left shoulder pad, while the right one is empty to allow the marine to fill it however they want. Some devote the right shoulder pad to kill markings, others, to their name, or a campaign that they fought in.
