++Iron Within, Iron Without++

So ive wanted to do an Iron Warriors army for quite some time, probably started with reading Storm of Iron by Graeme McNeil. deffo worth a read if your not familiar.

I built this Knight Titan a while back when the Mauler came out its a kitbash between that and a defiler. I wrote some rules for use in apoc and it came out to play a few times but i wanted to put it on the table a bit more. I decided to create an iron warriors army and use it as a defiler.

Thought i would start with the HQ so here is my Warsmith

this is the list im aiming more, not competitive by any means, but should be themed and fun to play

Yeah thats fair maybe some deep red on the gun sheild . .

The warpsmith is awesome, well done! Love the idea. The only suggestions is in regards to the knight titan, use a few more colours (cabling, hydraulics gun shroud etc) and also tone down the silver, it looks bit too bright in my opinion. Overall cracking work though! looking forward to updates. Also i see you live in Gloucester, i live up the road from you in Cirencester!

Im deffo gonna go back and do some more work on the knight, he was a bit of a rush job in the end cos all that gold edging took it out of me, lol.

Heres the work in progress Dark Apostle, gotta add some parchment bits from the plague monk sprue, the head is a max mini one, i really like the horrible sinister smile.

will post up some pics of my converted dark vengence chosen later.

bit of an update, converted the chosen from the Dark Vengence set into normal CSM. all the marines are gonna have drum mags, cos sometimes they just need to kill every last mofo in the room. lol. my bolters also have a different muzzle taken from the manufactorium kit. I refer to the weapons as boarding pattern boltguns, mostly spray and pray.

My favourite guy is prob the one in the second pic on the right. the pose seemed quite natural and different from the original chosen who was running.

gonna be back building again tonight so another update tomorrow

little update, ive made the lascannon csm for the iron warrior unit. Decided to make a platform (IG style), i like the idea of the iron warriors using support weapons and fixed positions rather that the typical over the shoulder style. this guys usually gonna be firing from inside my trench (aegis) anyway. the gunner is removable and on a seperate built in base for shooting at / with purposes.

secondly ive built my icharus. I wanted this to be really big, its got an enormous range! plus i wanted it to have some sort of enclosed compartment or sheilding, i used the leman russ sposon pieces for this, quite happy with the result, looks more like an artillery piece.

update time, got the Dark Apostle painted, pretty happy with him, went for the gold and red similar to pics in the book. i think he kinda looks like an evil Imperial dignitary or Inquisitor with the armour i gave him. i definetly think that its hard to tell theat the base model is the dark vengance chaplain, he he.

heres also a pic of the autogun cultists im working on, long time hobbyisits may recognise them, a cookie if you do! went for a really sickly palour on their skin, maybe they were iradiated or something, they are chaff after all. a few simple weapons swaps etc and they were good to go.

.. Maybe could do with a wee splash of colour somewhere on the dark apostle ? Face maybe blends into the armour a bit too much perhaps ? Nice work on the red, the base and the standard icon though

also, how did you do the skin of your cultists? Its what i have been aiming for with my World Eaters Marines but Yours loooks significantly better than my result.

@ reds8n - yeah i think i will blend it up to white, make his flesh stand out more from the gold.

@ Obsidian Raven - i base coloured the skin rakarth flesh then layered in a mix of rakath and nurgling green.
i then hit them with a shade of coilea greenshade, relayered the rakath nurgling mix,
then blended up to a lighter tone by adding in pallid wych flesh to the mix.
finally i gave them a very thin shade of reikland fleshshade watered down with plenty of medium.

i will whack some better pics of just a few of the cultists up later, that pic is terrible, lol.

oh and the shoulder pads are off a AOBR dread kneepads, i just bent a chaos star round to fit on one.

Nice work, especially on the Diggas/Cultists

@Dreadclaw69 - clearly has played the hoby for a little while well spotted that they are diggas, ive got a few frateris militia in a box that people always struggle to identify, great models tho.
