Hey all,

Been painting about two weeks or thereabouts, and have now completed my third miniature! My other two can be found at - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/511191.page

I'm really focused on improving techniques and skills, as I don't have any yet! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Here's Sauron. I'm still working on the base, I'm not used to basing miniatures yet.

Nice, a bit stale but exactly like he is in the movies. Would love to get more close up shots of this model (we don't see it enough).

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

Thanks! I wanted to make it more like the movies than do anything too exciting with the miniature - that plus I'm not really good enough to do anything exciting yet!

I think my next purchase might be a decent camera - phone cameras just don't really work well enough for detailed shots!

iPhone 4s+ cameras are fine, actually.

But, you can't say that 'cause everyone likes to buy a fancy DLSR cameras that are beyond their worth to simpletons taking photos of toys. (not that a good camera can't make or break presentation, but at our level... eh.)

I didn't mean to say you had to get a better camera, just a little closer

I know it seems everyone always says this...but I think it really applies here.

Give the metal a light wash of black wash. It need some definition. With a watered down (light) wash you can gauge if it needs another one when it dries (couple hours).

If you stick with progressive light washes, you'll keep the bright colouring you've gone with, but bring in some detail too

Nice work. We don't see enough LOTR around here. I agree with joyous here, a black wash improve this model tenfold especially across the shoulderblades. It would also pay to make the ring stand out. Considering how important the ring is it will be worth making it noticeable.

Keep up the good work mate.

The base looks great! Perhaps just clean up the edges a little and it will be good to go.
