Northern Wastelands

Hello all!

As my 13th Wolfwing is nearing their current end at 3400 points it is time to get some new projects on the go. This plog will follow the progress of two separate armies, and it is as the title suggests. Chaos Daemons and Blood Pact Armoured Company I haven`t received the newest codex Daemons yet (norwegian customs...) but as far as Blood Pact goes I will use codex IG for that part and the list I`m aiming for with them is 1750 points. Let`s break this down into each component:

1) CHAOS DAEMONS

I`ve spent the last year bartering to get the miniatures for this army. My hobby budget is very limited since I`m a family man with three kids and a girlfriend that still study (only one year left, yay!) so it is what it is. But I`m happy with it

HQ
Bloodthirster
Keeper of Secrets
Daemon Prince of Nurgle
Skulltaker (trade in the mail)
Karanak
Herald of Slaanesh
Herald of Nurgle(trade in the mail)
Herald of Khorne on Juggernaught

ELITES
4*Bloodcrushers of Khorne
2*Fiends of Slaanesh
9*Flamers of Tzeentch

TROOPS
21*Horrors of Tzeentch
20*Daemonettes of Slaanesh
10*Plaguebearers of Nurgle
10+*Bloodletters of Khorne (trade in the mail)
5*Nurglings baser

FAST
ca 8* Flesh Hounds of Khorne

HEAVY
2*Soul Grinders
1*Soul Grinder (trade in the mail)

FORTIFICATIONS
Aegis Defence Line (will be scratchbuilt) with Comms Relay (daemon with horn)

In addition to that I have a small mini swap deal going and I have a few bucks spared to supply where it`s needed when I get the codex. But I`m really keen on those new Tzeentch chariots to put it like that..

I will begin with the CORE, FAST and HEAVY as I can`t go wrong there either way. ELITES and HQ I`ll wait for the codex before I decide.

2) BLOOD PACT ARMOURED COMPANY

[pict pending]

Well I like tanks, I like chaos and I rather liked the Gaunts Ghosts books so when I got the opportunity to get my hands on 4 leman russes for an insanse low price I jumped at it! In short this army will be something like this:

HQ
Command Squad in chimera

ELITES
Marbo
Ogryns in chimera

TROOPS
2*Veteran Squads in Chimeras

FAST
2*Sentinels

HEAVY
2*Leman Russ
1*Leman Russ Demolisher
1*Leman Russ Executioner

I have the codex and all of the minis I need but I haven`t decided on final list and I`m making Daemons my first priority at the moment.

Got some work done today. Taken some time to settle on a list I want to work towards. Roughly I`ll be taken this at 1500 points:

Bloodthirster
Karanak
Herald of Khorne
Herald of Nurgle
14*Bloodletters w/icon and instrument
10*Plaguebearers
5*Bloodcrushers
8*Flesh Hounds
2*Soul Grinders

So with a rough list out of the way, here`s the first stuff ready for greenstuffing.

Bloodletters w/Herald of Khorne

Flesh Hounds w/Karanak

Been bad weather today so managed to take some pics of the stuff I`ve assembled so far:

Soul Grinders:

They will be mark of Nurgle so I need to do a fair bit of greenstuffing on these just so they fit the bill.

Plaguebearers and Herald of Nurgle:

Had two mutilated old plaguebearers I had to fix up. The Herald is a kitbash from a lot of stuff. Kroot legs, savage orc torso, chaos knight sword arm, genestealer arm, chaos spawn head. He still needs greenstuffing though.

Herald of Khorne ver.2:

Changed the sword for an axe and the other arm with something more fitting in style. Gap filling and he should be done.

Northern Wastelands

My camera is at a friends house due to a large game we got going there which is taking us a few afternoons. So I dug out the family camera and went to it. Not overly happy with the pics but I think they show things fairly okey.

Flesh hounds & Karanak

As far as I know I have three different generations of flesh hounds here. Karanak is obviously the new breed, but I also got the oldest one there. He`s the purple-ish one, the largest. He lacks his crest and lower jaw, had to sculpt fur and a jaw for him. The other two purple-ish ones are from the same generation. Had to fix legs and fur on them to blend them better in with the newer ones. The bulk of the hounds are the previous version. They`re spiky as hell! My fingers where hurting seriously when working with them...

The entire pack is now basecoated and will be my next target for paint.

Bloodletters

Went for a semi-traditional scheme on these. Warm red skin, yellow eyes but normal bone colour instead of black. Weapons are silvery but gory. Check out the back on the top left one. It`s a chore doing it but the result speak for itself I think. Also very happy with the deserty bases I got going on them. Contrasts well without taking your eye away from the minis. Oh and check out the plasma red ink. It`s in perfect condition and I use it to get that rich warm red

The bad pics annoyed me real bad so here`s another go at pics:

And a PiP of the remaining bloodletters and herald:

Here`s what my workbench contains at the moment

Can`t believe I went ahead and started assembly painting all of the hounds as well..ah well, it`ll be a treat when it`s done

Also, I need decision help. I`m doing a centaur theme on the bloodcrushers but what head?

A

or B

I`m kinda leaning towards B, but then I need to add horns and some hair I think.

Opinions?

Northern Wastelands

Played my first game with the new dex yesterday against a greenwing DA army at 1500 points. We got the kill point mission.

He had:
Librarian
Chaplain
7ish terminators
5*sniper scouts
6*jump marines
10*tactical marines
5*bikers w/multimelta attackbike
1*las pres
1*vindicator
2*razorbacks

I had:
Bloodthirster, 1*greater reward
K.herald, 1*greater reward & loci
N.herald, 1*greater loci
Karanak
5*Bloodcrushers
13*Bloodletters, icon & instrument
10*Plaguebearers
8*Flesh Hounds
2*Soul Grinders, MoN, phleghm

First off, the greater rewards stuff. I got the gaze thing on the thirster and thought at first...what the hell do I use that and almost took the weapon but then it hit me that he`s an MC and can do two shooting attacks. So in it went and it paid off against all of the armour the DA player had immediately.
Secondly, the warp storm table did nothing special for me. It was exciting to see but all in all nothing happened really and I threw below average on it.
Thirdly, daemons soak wounds like a sponge in water....man they hurt easily but they sure put some hurting on when they get to grips with the enemy.

So I haven`t discovered anything gamebreaking as I`ve read the above several times but it`s always nice to see for oneself

The game in short then.
Deployed the Soul Grinders and plaguebearers w/herald in cover to get that juicy 2+ cover save, the hounds and crushers w/Karanak on one flank so I could scout move both units en masse a maximum 12 inches to put on pressure early. Letters w/herald and thirster in reserve.
First round, was his and he immediately started pounding the flesh hounds and crushers with everything from vindicators, predators, ravenwing and his mother. They survived but I lost 3 crushers and one hound.. In return I moved the hounds and crusher forwards again but they where outside of charge distance of the ravenwing bikers due to him moving backwards* in his turn. The shooting phase saw the grinders starting to hurt him with chipping away at hull points.
Second turn. He moved more units towards the crushers and fiends and advanced with the bikers to assault. He shoot me some more, took out 5 hounds, 1 crusher and 1 plaguebearer. He then tried to assault my hounds with bikers but lacked half an inch
My turn saw me getting the letters from reserves. I got a hit on my deep strike with them and with their instrument I brought in the thirster. They where now on the opposite and very fragile flank of the DA player I moved the hounds w/Karanak and the last crusher closer to the bikers to assault them. In the shooting phase the thirster took out a razorback with the gaze, the grinders took one combat tactical squad and another hull point. I then assaulted the bikers with the hounds, Karanak and crusher. I then procedeed to wipe them out
Third turn. If I had his attention before I sure had it now, he moved the termies and predator to take out the pesky hounds, Karanak and crusher while trying to damage control on the other flank by getting things out of harms way. Shooting took out the last crusher and his assault took out the hounds and Karanak but his termies where now so far from action that they would not do anything else this game. I advance with the Soul Grinders to take out some more vehicles, vector striked the scouts with the thirster and made the letters ready for an assault on the last combat squad of tacticals. Can`t remember much from the shooting but I think I took one or two hull points on the vindicator. Assault saw the letters take out the combat squad with ease then consolidate in cover and getting linebreaker.
Fourth & fifth turn. This was getting late so it`s a bit blurry Anyways, he shot everything he could at my thirster to ground him, which he did. I couldn`t make a save for my life so he took 4 wounds this turn...he also immobilised one of my grinders. He then assaulted my thirster with the jump marines and that was fun He killed my thirster in the last round though..
I took out the vindicator with one grinder in cc and the other grinder shot on the termie/libby/ unit, they ran and that was pretty much it.

He got: Warlord, Flesh hounds, Karanak, Bloodcrushers for a total of 5 kill points
I got: First Blood, linebreaker, warlord, bikers, 2*razorbacks, vindicator, 2*combat squads, termies for a total of 11 kill points

One thing I did miss was having a psyker. I think I`ll try out the GUO next time

*This is the third DA player I`ve met and they all do the same. Move away from you. Anyone else experienced this?!

Finally got my normal camera back!

I went for option B on the head for bloodcrusher kentaur daemons

I think this is the way to go and will proceed with greenstuffing.

Then I got this beauty in a trade

Yes it`s a GUO and I love the mini! The plan is to raise him up on the cork (don`t use cork on the normal bases) to make him a bit larger, give him the nurgle DP sword and litter the base with nurglings, maybe even make a small palanquin. We`ll see

Here`s the bloodletters and herald all done, hopefully with good enough pics..

Comments are always welcomed

Got the Flesh Hounds and Karanak finished. Went fast enough but I was gazing into the Eye itself from those scales and horns...but as I hoped it paid off as the unit looks great imo at least

Next up for paint will be the bloodthirster himself. Maybe a tad early but I wanted to give myself a bonus for getting two entire squads and one HQ done already I`m also currently browsing ebay and other places for some oop greater daemons that I can use as Daemon Princes. Want to field a Flying MC list when I feel for some extra carnage

Okey so Karanak and the flesh hounds didn`t exactly incite anything regarding interest...

Maybe this will help?

Bloodthirster, painting in progress, as in just skin:

Got a long way to go still but I think he`ll look really nice when done. I`m really warming up to the Khorne colour scheme I`ve landed on

Then it`s the Bloodcrusher centaurs:

Greenstuffed the torso part where the upper body connects with the juggernaught and plugged the hole on the juggernaught body with a shield. Next will be arms and horns then the remaining greenstuffing of gaps, fur and some scales I think. Just to tie them together with the other units.

Then it`s something I didn`t see come this soon but not that I don`t like Soul Grinders with MoN but having the option to play an FMC was to tempting. So without further ado, here`s two Daemon Princes of Khorne, minus wings.. (which I`ve bitz ordered).

Both are quite similar. Minotaur heads and arms/axe, rat ogre torso and lower body, empire warhorse legs. I think they look agile, lethal and with the comical oversized proportions that was normal back in the day.

So how about it. Better update than the hounds?

Skulltaker done. Rather fun mini to paint actually, and a lot bigger than I originally thought!

Earlobe deep in doo doo

Impressed by the older Daemons in the collection and good painting. Interesting idea for the Blood Centaurs although it might have been cheaper to go with using Dragon Ogres instead.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Cheers

Oh it wasn`t so expensive for me, more of a using the parts I had lying available. But yes, essentialy it`s not the most cost effective way of doing it.
