March 9th 2012, Army at the 2k point (now past the 3k):

---
[Original post]

Then I`m finally back and with a new army and project log no less.

This is an all-terminator project I`ve been wanting to do for ages but I`ve spent a lot of time getting hold of all of the minis and parts I needed. The base terminator is chaos but with space wolf plastic termie parts but also some other stuff I had.

The list will consist primarily of:
Logan Grimnar
Njal Stormcaller
2*4 termie wolf guards
1*5 termie wolf guard incl Arjac Rockfist
1*Dread i drop-pod

Totaling in at 1500 points. Not a lot of minis, probably not a game-winning list but I don`t care about that really. I will add some more Chaos stuff as allies. That`s why I went with 13th company as they kinda/or at least could borderline against being more evil than good. Anyways, that`s my logic.

Now unto pre-grey-/greenstuffing pics:

HQs, from left Njal, Logan and Arjac:

Stormshields:

Twin wolfclaws:

Combi-flamers and assault cannon:

Last but not least, the dreadnought:

Haven`t decided on configuration of the squads but I`ll sort that out at another time. Did not include a pic of the drop-pod as it`s stock and not very exciting at that stage.

That was the start of it. Doesn`t look like much yet but I hope I can remedy that as I go along but do leave some comments!

Started greystuffing the wolf-claws first:

The fourth only got gapfilling. That`s the one with the rebreather. I think I`ll add some braids to these three though. Gives it a bit more viking/berserker fell I think.

what are your two tac choices?

Logan Grimnar opens up for Wolf Guards as troop or tac choice as you put it, so they`re scoring units

Update time! Things doesn`t look all that nice to be honest, but I still hold hope that it will all come together when I slap some paint on

Njal:

I used the staff from that WHFB Wolf priest character from the Empire army, and an old plastic Empire mage as the base for Njal. The cute little raven is from a bannertop I had lying around. Not all that sold on this mini so far but I will stick to my guns and complete him before I decide on keeping him or making a new one. Didn`t take a pic of the back but I`ve made a cloak for him which looks quite nice.

Wolfclaw#1

Wolfclaw#2

Wolfclaw#3

The wolfclaw armed fellas are more or less done I think. I`ve added as much hair, beards and braids as I thought I could get away with. I think the feral look will be maintained at least.

C&C as always welcomed

The legendary 13th Company of the Space Wolves Legion disappeared 10.000 years ago, and the circumstances of that disappearance are the subject of numerous myths and legends.

From those very myths and legends the elite Wolfwing warband have now returned to the Imperium of Man, still intent as ever upon fulfilling the task they were set ten millenia past by, legend states, the Primarch Leman Russ himself

+ Skald & Eirik +

+++
Skald and Eirik feature several of the trademarks from the 13th Company. First and foremost the geneseed of the 13th Company show a dominance of red hair and iceblue eyes. Even through centuries of warfare those trademarks still hold strong.
Furthermore we see the use of looted enemy armour. As the 13th Company has been away from Fenriz and the rest of the Chapter they have to make do with what they salvage in the aftermath. In a grim tradition they always paint these parts in the Pre-Heresy colours of the Thousand Sons. Why is not known, but one can speculate...
+++

Very happy to show off my vision of the 13th Company members even if daylight is getting shorter by the day so the pics are not the best. Do ask or just leave some comments if you please

Update time again

Got some more wolf guards done:

Storm bolter & chainfist.

Storm bolter, powerfist & cyclone missile launcher.

Frost axe & storm shield.

Thunderhammer & storm shield.

They`re all basecoated now so next in line for some paint. Also working on some Long Fangs and some Grey Hunters. More on those later

+ Hrolf +

+++
Wild and feral as the others armed with twin wolf claws, Hrolf is a savage fighter proudly bearing his battlescars refusing to replace his lost eye. Luck has it that this has amplified his other senses tenfold and he is now an even more dangerous opponent than ever before.
+++

ooo Olaf Hellige ooo
(count-as Njal Stormcaller)

ooo
Ancient. The second oldest in the 13th Company, but the only one not interred in a Dreadnought Olaf still is one of the staunchest and most able warriors in the company. He commands the elements, and when he enters the fray the very elements follow his command. No wonder then that he is the one that has learned how to navigate the warp as the company has lost their navigators centuries ago.
However he is also cursed. The curse of the Wulfen. His very features are distorted and enlarged and it is his pure will that holds the curse at bay.
ooo

Here`s what I have finished so far, not so bad I think

C&C as always welcomed!

Update time!

Caved in and made som Grey Slayers (count-as Grey Hunters). I`ve played Space Marines enough to appreciate the qualities of a tac squad.

Looking forward to painting these, I think they`ll look great with the Wolf Guards. Those without helmets have only received pony-tails (no not a brony here ).

Then it`s the last of the termie armoured guys:

The Abaddon fig will be my "Harald Blodoks" count-as Logan Grimnar. Blodoks means Bloodaxe in norwegian, hence the chaos axe. Gone a bit ko-ko you know. I`ve also re-organised the wolf guards packs into one pack for Harald and one for Olaf. The dread+drop-pod is still in the list and I`m also making a Long Fangs unit.

Do leave some C&C please

Some more wolf guards, this completes Olaf`s pack.

The Grey Slayers are basecoated and dried so they`re next in line.

Northern Wastelands

I can explain a bit more of the background of the 13th Wolfwing. It is basically a Loganwing armylist with a 13th Company spin on. 13th Company was a proper armylist back in the days of the "Eye of Terror" campaign and it all suited the minis I had at hand and the retro feel I wanted. 13th Company had two visual aspects with them that differs from normal Space Wolves:
1) They have the pre-heresy grey mixed with red and black armoured parts looted from even chaos space marines
2) openly struggle with the wulfen gene

For me this translated in a weathered and beaten look as these lads have been going at it for a long time without resupplies from the Legion/Chapter and feral with the long hair which funnily enough have a solid strain of red in it akin to Russ himself. I also explain the varying headsizes with the wulfen gene, some are affected some are not. This is also the reason I put the plog in the chaos forums. They are still loyal to Russ and the Allfather but they have strayed to far away with the use of heretic equipment and by letting the wulfen gene develop unhindered. At least in the eyes of the Imperium.

With that out of the way, here`s some pics

Long Fangs, or Claw Einherjer as I call them:

Probably not the best loadout but the amount of plasma in the list is increasing and I like the glowy effect

After playing a game with Olaf my count-as Njal I found that runepriests where a lot of fun so I made another one that can accompany the Grey Slayers (Claw Ulfer) or Claw Einherjer depending on the role I want him to take.

Proper kitbash this one, just need some greenstuffing to tidy up some parts. I do dare someone to name the parts though

As always, C&C welcomed

Cheers Gits! You`re to kind

Apologies in advance for shoddy pic. Daylight is the shortest time of the day here now so good pics are hard to come by when main hobbytime is after the kids are asleep..

Anyhoo. Here's Pack Ulfer*:

(*Ulfer means Wolfes)

A lot of fun minis in this pack, they go along well with the rest of the Wolfwing. I`ll take some army shots of what`s done in my next update

They look good mate. Interesting choice to mix in the old chaos backpacks. Very interesting plasma gun conversions too. I know full well about painting when the kids are abed. Most of my time comes then, in the very early AM if I can't sleep, or while the kids are doing homework.

Thanks Gits Since they`re 13th Company and basically scavengers I`ve been able to utilise my bitz boxes to the fullest. The plasma guns are also examples of that. Actually quite like them now but I was very sceptical in the beginning.

My kids are 3, 5 and 7 so I primarily only got the evenings available. That is after she-who-must-be-obeyed is pleased with things in the house

Here`s some more pics of my fav parts in the pack:

LOL! That's my wife's nickname too!

That's a really interesting effect you get on the armor. Is that just a wash or do you do something else? (P.S. You should consider my PM.)

Haha, well some things are basically universal we can say then

Step-wise it`s:
Black basecoat
- Grey parts:
Codex grey, lightly diluted
Space wolves grey, lightly drybrushed
- Red parts:
Scab red, same as with codex grey
Blood red, same as space wolves grey
- weathering
diluted chaos black applied where I want it
boltgun metal in the black spots
mithril silver in some of the boltgun metal spots
mid-brown wash
dull-coat spray

Should be about it. I find that the dullcoat gives it all a very matt and nice finish that I like a lot at least.

PS: answered PM, didn`t see it before you told me

Very interesting effect. They look really chewed on (I don't mean this in a negative way). Hope that's what you were shooting for!

Not taken that way at all Actually that was my intention. Just imagine being alone out in the great grimdark, no supplies, no support, need to scavenge parts to get you by, wulfen curse kicking in. All in all not a very good situation to say the least, lol!

Did some more work on the dread:

Only had one TL autocannon and wanted two so I made one out of a spare dread ccw arm and some plasticard. It`s still quite rough and I haven`t done any greenstuffing yet so this is an early WiP at best

Hey Red, you should consider uploading your photo's to the dakka gallery. It's easy & that way they can be voted on and are eligible for the system to snag for the front page or gallery page. Might help bring traffic to the blog!

Lovely to see so many old rouge trader marines getting a new lease of life in this project!

I love how scrappy it all looks till it gets a lick of paint and then gets transformed into coherent and cool looking wolves, and they really do look like they've been slogging their way across the eye of terror for a few hundred years, they all look older and gnarlier than most space wolves.

Thank you I`ve got more on the way so no worries there

Someone in my gaming group said the same thing, or rather that it all looked like gak until I painted up the first minis. Happy that you can see what I try to convey with these. It`s not my technical best paintjobs but expression-wise it`s among my best that I`ve managed to pull off with an entire army. If that makes any sense

Evening!

The temperature finally rised above -15 celcius so I was able to varnish and basecoat some units that have been waiting more or less a week for that. When it`s to cold things go to gak if I spray in those temperatures..

I was supposed to have finished both the Long Fangs and the Rune Priest but luck of course would not let me get that far as I dropped the RP...twice! So he will have to wait as I need to put him together again. Luckily parts and paintjob survived..

Anyhoo, here`s my long fangs:

I went for the literal approach that they are among the oldest among the wolves so grey hair for all of them. Looking forward on putting these to use

Next up will be the dread and drop-pod that I`ve finally managed to basecoat.
