Not what I was thinking either. More of a Fuscha. But nice.

Amazing! Love the fully flocked bases.

here are a few more.
Originally the pink stuff was bright pink, and white. It looked okay, in fact I think several years back I even posted pic's of it here. I'll post some "before repaint" pics later.

Different squads have different colors. here are some of the yellow groups, and a couple pink pirahnas.

Desperately need to drill out the burst cannon barrels. Everything else looks so fantastic it makes the lack of drilled barrels really stand out.

Also: mould lines! Epic painting, though.

I should have stated that the weapons are magnetized, and incomplete. The mould lines will go away. I hadn't thought about drilling out the guns though.... That's a good idea!

Really nice models, very unique scheme. That Hammerhead is wonderfull!

Very nice paint job. I thought it was going to suck when I read the title. The only thing I don't like are the fully flocked bases, but that's really a matter of taste. I simply prefer my models on an urban city type base rather than some field.

How did you do the paint pattern? Can you put up some pics on how you did it?

I'm not entirely happy with the bases either, but I hate undone bases even more than I dislike this. It was simple, and will be easy to add to later. In the mean time, I can call them "done"

Yes, When I get another hammerhead, I will try to take some video of the painting process. It involves an old fishing net, some twine, spray on adhesive, an airbrush, many (as much as 9 in some places) layers, and rubber gloves

Yeah, I know that painting process. It's awesome. Good way to imitate "Scales" as well.

Looking good, keep it up dude.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Great stuff! Loving the patterning you've got in the paint jobs. I was a little worried that someone else was wanting to do the same scheme I had in mind when I say 'pink tau' but these are way, way better than what I had in mind! Great stuff.

the original paint job on these models was probably way closer to what you were expecting When I'm finished with all of them, I'll post before and after.

Lol, I know, just me typing my thoughts out loud xD

Offshoot question : were you gonna do something to represent "stealth?"
I'm curious to see how you'd do it in your scheme.

You are getting better and better at this scheme as the thread goes on, the Riptide in particular looks awesome...

Can you describe the color steps you use in conjunction with the net, and post a pic and describe how you apply the net while painting? Is it just held by hand or do you tac it down?

I'm guessing from looking at it you base white, then spray your purples and magentas on the areas you want to highlight with the grid, probably basing it mostly off what you can get to easily with the net and brush? Main idea being to do a candy'ish effect, high vibrancy, then after that the net goes on and it all the black is applied, then the OSL bits with the airbrush, then the remainder with is brushwork?

I have never tried to apply a grid with the airbrush or used stenciling for texture, I love the look of this so would def be interested in seeing the technique in action, even if it is just a few pics specifically of the netting part.

Anyways, thanks very much for sharing, very cool!

Lol, and was so pre-occupied kissing butt that I didn't give my main criticism - the basing... I find the basing is really letting down the paintjobs on the models themselves... flocking over the edge is pretty frowned on in competitive painting circles, and the lack of variation on the ground and the too-green vibrancy of the flock are pretty distraction once you can look away from the models lol. The combination of flocking over the edge plus just gluing down unpainted out of the pot flock materials just leaves a really messy impression both in application and execution on this front.

I would highly recommend thinking about re-basing this stuff and going with a different, more muted theme. Static grass is a bit passe- grass tufts on sand with a few rocks or boulders in a more dry grass or deserty theme with just a few touches of green would really do well with your scheme I think. If you can, you may want to consider going with resin bases from a company like Secret Weapon, as I think your models are well worth it!

Thanks for the input! I am going to get resin bases. I didn't now about not flocking the edges, that is news to me. I intend to order some fancier bases, or make some for all the models. The goal at the moment is to get the figures table ready, and then go back and add a little more brush work to the places I feel need it, and rebase them. I don't like the bases as they are, but if I spent the time I want to on the bases now, I would only have half as much of my army done. The other issue is that I cannot find my gravel basing material :/ I had two huge tubes of it, but neither one are forthcoming. My stealth suits will have real bases, as they will be painted accordingly.

As far as the steps, I posted progressive steps of the riptide here in this forum, that answers most of your questions. The short of it, is that you're pretty much spot on. I've experimented with tacking the netting down, but I found it largely unnecessary at this point unless I'm having a particularly shaky day. (Parkinsons)

Did a little work to make my temporary bases more tolerable.

And here is the next batch of figures primed and ready to go under the brush. Until now I've never had an issue with fine cast, but it is possible these models were first run and just on the shelves for a long time. T O N S of voids (air bubbles), I mean rediculously lots of them. Bent all to hell, generally very poorly done. I will be willing to try finecast again, as I've had some nice figures in it before. But I think from now on I'm going to make sure it is from somewhere with high stock turnover on GW products so I ensure I get new models.

Amazing stuff! Great use of the airbrush to get a really unique look to them.

I concur about the basing, look into Micro Art Studios for a great range of resin bases.

I don't think placing random rocks really improves the basing, you have to paint your bases to really get more out of them.

The rocks are a temporary solution. On the table it looks alot better. I'll be making or buying real bases once the army is complete.
