Warhammer Forge Newsletter #39

Hi there,
This week up for pre-order we have the noble Empire Command Set alongside the insidious burrowing horror of the Dread Maw. We also have some information regarding our forthcoming events and Games Workshop's Apocalypse release.

Empire Command Set
Officers in the Empire can vary in prowess on the battlefield, in the authority they project and the tactics they employ. Noble born officers are trained from youth in swordsmanship and hunting, while others make their way up through the ranks, having once fought shoulder to shoulder alongside the men they now lead.

The Empire Command Set, designed by Steve Whitehead, contains three multi-part resin models. Each character is packed with fine details, from the proud bearing of the officer and solemnly dutiful battle standard bearer, whose sun motif on his coat mirrors that on the banner, to the raving flagellant who sports nails piercing the flesh of his arms. This fantastic character set is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 26th July.

Dread Maw
With their circular mouths, studded with rows of sickle-shaped teeth, Dread Maws can seize and devour a fully armoured man in seconds. Often, smaller prey is swallowed whole, but even the largest creatures will fall foul of the Dread Maw's ravenous appetite. Bursting forth from beneath the ground and latching on with their hooked teeth, they can tear their way inside the greatest of beasts, eviscerating them from within and quickly hollowing out their ruptured carcass.

The Dread Maw, designed by Keith Robertson, is a multi part resin model that depicts the beast erupting from beneath the ground. The Dread Maw is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 26th July.

Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse
Following on from the release of Games Workshop's new http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1080004a&prodId=prod2130068a&_requestid=1749764]Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse expansion, we have put a handy page together which links every Forge World product that can be seen in the book by page reference.

Events News
Enter the Citadel

The Forge World Sales Team will be attending Warhammer 40,000: Enter the Citadel, held at Warhammer World in Nottingham on Saturday 13th July. Although this is a ticket only event, on this occasion our sales stand will be outside of the ticketed area and will be accessible to all visitors to Warhammer World. We will also be offering you the exclusive chance to pre-order your copy of Forge World's new Imperial Armour: Apocalypse and will have copies of the book for you to see on the day.

Games Day North Germany
We are also attending Games Day Germany which will be held at the Gürzenich in Cologne on Sunday 11th August, and are now taking reservation orders for this event. Click here to find out how to place a reservation order for this event. We must receive your order by midday GMT on Monday 29th July.

That's a pretty nice ROB tile- but with Secret Weapon making theirs, I don't know if they'll get many new buyers (just those with current ROB). Also nice command set, although pricey- the daemonsmith set for chaos dwarfs is 3 models for 18 pounds, rather than 2 for 30 pounds. These are bigger, but still a lot more.

These boards have a lot more detail and are definitely more 3D than SW's. Given that they fit with the existing stuff, I expect there will be enough buyers for FW to recoup their investment in producing it. I'm just glad to see something that isn't HH.

I'm fine with that. I didn't want to keep this with the 40k Forge World thread. I don't follow or play Warhammer Fantasy, but if people post rumors, I'll keep an eye here and update the first post.

Looking at it, it appears that the large nail holding the troll slayer torso to the pole is also fastening his shaved-off beard (because that's how you desecrate a dwarves dead body) to his chest.

Or I could be wrong.

I think I would have preferred him simply shaven or the beard nailed off to the side somewhere. Definitely a step towards brutal that normal GW wouldn't have taken (and that's not even mentioning the religious symbology).

I have to say, having seen them in person, I'm more looking forwards to the empire command kit than this one.

Entirely due to the flagellant.

Here's some that are hosted on Dakka (I took them)

They look a bit blurry, it's because Dakka insists on compressing them and it squashes all the detail.
It clears up if you click through to the gallery and zoom in a bit.

Warhammer Forge Newsletter #37

Hi there,
In today’s newsletter we delve into the stygian depths of the Warhammer world to bring you a fiendish new Night Goblin weapon – the terrifyingly bizarre Squig Gobba. We’ve also got an events update for those of you lucky enough to get tickets to the (now sold out!) Horus Heresy Weekender.

Night Goblin Squig Gobba
The Squig Gobba, as it is known by the common soldiery of the Empire, is a fearsome sight amongst the Orc & Goblin hordes. Dragged and prodded onto the battlefield by its malevolent Night Goblin tenders, it is a huge beast with an oversized gaping maw, a set of extremely powerful lungs and a ravenous appetite to rival even that of a Troll! With the Squig Gobba heavily chained into position to prevent it bounding off after the first tasty morsel it spies, its tenders start dragging lesser squigs from the cages surrounding them as battle is joined, slicking these vicious beasts with foul-tasting noxious liquids. This not only renders the creatures senseless for a short time, but also prevents the Squig Gobba from immediately swallowing them as the stunned squigs are unceremoniously stuffed into its jaws!

Soon the Squig Gobba’s mouth will be full to bursting point, with thick globs of frothing acidic saliva dribbling constantly forth. Then it is only a matter of time before one of two things happen: either the Squig Gobba will vomit forth its mouthful of now monumentally furious lesser kin, causing chaos and panic on a grand (and thoroughly disgusting) scale amongst the enemy army’s ranks; or the great beast itself will explode in a blazing fireball, as the Night Goblin ‘concoctions’ that coat the squigs react spectacularly with the Squig Gobba’s stomach juices.

The Night Goblin Squig Gobba is a multi-part resin kit designed by Keith Robertson. This improbable war ‘machine’ is packed with detail, from the terrified squig being lifted into the maw of the Squig Gobba, and the variously panicked and angry munitions being spat into the air, to the cruel and sneaky Night Goblin tenders themselves. This fantastic kit is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 31st May, and you can download a set of experimental rules from the Forge World website now.

Newsletter #36

Hi there,
We turn our attention to the brutal Orcs in today’s newsletter, with a fantastically detailed new character set now available to pre-order. We’ve also got a great new hollow resin scenery tile for you too, as well as a reminder about an upcoming event.

Orc Command Set

The greenskinned Orcs are a brutal and savage species; hulking, powerful and possessed of a low cunning often underestimated by their myriad enemies. Their armies are commanded by a Warboss; the biggest, strongest and most powerful of their number. As the Warboss’ tally of victories grows, so too does its stature, resulting in the great Waaagh!s being led by hulking, verdant monsters who stand head and shoulders above the teeming masses who follow in their wake.

Even the lowliest Warboss will go to war festooned with trophies taken from its previous victims and clad in crude and slab-like mail and plate; invariably armed to the teeth with a variety of brutal axes, cleavers and knives.

As the Warboss wins more victories and grows in notoriety, its vanity and ego will also increase. A subordinate will often be granted the honour of carrying a great, ramshackle standard into battle; loudly and vulgarly proclaiming the Warboss’ prowess in the form of crude glyphs and the broken arms and armour of the vanquished.

The Orc Command Set, designed by Edgar Skomorowski, contains two multi-part resin models. Each massive Orc is packed with jaw-dropping detail; from the severed wing of a great Wyvern bearing the broken body of a Trollslayer, carried by the Standard Bearer, to the mighty battered axe and the hateful bellow etched upon the Warboss’ features.

This fantastic character set is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 3rd May.

Realm of Battle Earthworks

Blake Spence has recently finished a new hollow resin Realm of Battle tile, the Realm of Battle Earthworks. This is a fantastic addition to any Warhammer Realm of Battle gaming table; a hillside position fortified with two earthen bastions for artillery pieces, a forward ravelin, and an additional cavalier. The tile also features sufficient space for units of supporting missile troops, and Blake has packed it with plenty of detail, from cached barrels of blackpowder to discarded shields and crossbows.

Such defensive positions are a common hallmark of the Dwarfs and Empire armies, particularly the vaunted artillery trains of Nuln, and it is indeed a rare army of Sigmar’s Empire that does not draw up its ranks with emplaced artillery at its back. The Earthworks can also be used to represent an area that has been overrun by forces of a more destructive nature such as the Orcs and Goblins and the hordes of the Chaos Gods.

The Realm of Battle Earthworks tile measures 2' x 2' (609mm x 609mm). It is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 3rd May.
