So, I'm relatively* new to the hobby and I'm already running low on inspiration juice. I've wanted a Nurgle Marine/daemon force for quite a while (mostly for painting/conversion) but I want to deviate from the typical buboes and pustules that are so rampant amongst his followers. Without thinking, I did a quick image search of fleshy diseases and the like... I'd rather not go back into that, so I've come here for ideas and inspiration.

I really like the idea of skin sloughing off the marines exposed bits and out from underneath decaying armor so I've started converting some standard chaos marines in that fashion. I'll post up a few pics when I get my camera back. So far I think they look good but a bit boring when there's a bunch around.

So followers of the Padre of Rot, how do you Nurgle?

*Been following fluff/painting sporadically for about 3 years but never anything in bulk or serious, and I haven't played any games.

It doesn't have to be modeled THAT horrifically, though. Get you some green wash and paint it all over the models, to make them look slime covered. I love doing more simple things too. My cultist leader and one of my chaos spawns, for example have rather normal looking bodies, but their skin is extremely pale, bruised and heavily jaundiced. All weapons are given a nasty, unmaintained look by painting them in rusted colors, or making them nice and shiny and giving them washes of various browns and greens. I find the new cultist models look great if you make them look like they're dressed in leather made out of the dead. Especially all the hoods, aprons, and leather vests. They'll look disturbing and off, but without dragging entrails everywhere

I Nurgle like oldschool zombie movies.

I would have to agree with Munga. Some things I have done in the past was actually glue a bit of sand in the creases of armor and paint it as rust. If you can find some UHU glue and tamiya clear red/green you can do some nice blood/slime strings leaking from the armor as well.

I mostly zombie, so loads of blood and gloss over top is the way it is. Green wash over Rotting Flesh (or whatever the new rotting flesh is called) makes them look sufficiently dead.

Those oldschool zombies look awesome, Nuggz! Thanks for postin' 'em.

As for tamiya clear, is that sold in hobby shops or online only? My friend works at a Jerry's Artarama and he's never heard of the stuff. I prefer to buy my paints instore if possible as I've had issues with consistency after travelling through Florida's humidity filled airways.

Definitely going to try my hand at some jaundice and bruised skin when I get home, may even give some much needed character to my current marines!

If you look in my gallery at the Plague Dogs, you'll see how I chose to do it. I'm not too keen on having all of my guys either being bloated or looking like they're melting, so I chose the slightly uncommon method of doing a Nurgle army clean. Very few fleshy growths on my guys. Instead, their armor is dirty and rusted with the actual Plague Marines decked out in heavier Haz-Mat armor. My army is in varying stages of Rot, so some are more heavily affected than others. Many tend to have mystery fluids leaking from their armor. I find this method is easier to work with and actually helps my guys be a bit more distinct from the usual rotten, bloated Nurgle warbands.

I buy mine at a local model train store. It is the go to for gore (tamiya clear) and you could just google it and you will see how it looks and if you want to use it or not for gore.

Another question, concerning legal model size, what dimensions do they have to adhere to? Could I essentially make a bloated Plague Lord that was roughly the size of two marines side by side if it fit the base, and still play games with it?

That looks awesome my good friend!

I like the Idea of the Thread Fester! I love coming on here and seeing how others Nurgle! I get a lot of my inspiration from Dakka but I found this lovely little Forum a few years ago and am a daily lurker. go check out www.papanurgle.com and look in the currupt creations! You will see a HUGE variety of different styles and methods that others use to give praise to the plague father!
I like to to think that when my marines enter a room, the enemy covers their nose and says "oh " due to the stench of rotting flesh and corpses that are carried around as trophies. And soon they will be swarmed by flies ready to spread infectious diseases as cute little nurglings run up and get a nibble on their ankles. THEY JUST WANT TO HUG AND GIVE NURGLE KISSES!!!
Go check out papanurgle and joing the forum and start posting your work. Here is a link to my main thread there.

Wow! Am I glad you stumbled into this thread! That site is mighty awesome, and your marines look positively putrescent!

That plague lord is the bees knees, man. I've been trying to replicate that skin tone on my plaguebearers.
