Hello!
never made a blog before or an updating page of what i paint but i have a lot of time right now and I need to stay motivated so i'm going to give it a go and maybe entertain some of you. Recently I decided to pick up a box of firewarriors (like yesterday more like it) and now i have decided to make a small army of them. I wont be building any specific list really just models I want to paint with weapons I think are fun and or look sweet as i feel this game is a little to expensive to field things i don't love.
First off i guess ill say my name is Victor and I have been painting models on and off since i was like 7 or 8 or so, i;m 21 now (almost 22!). For the most part I painted/paint 40k though I have painted some ww2 tanks and a battleship in the past even have a KV-1 ready to prime up. As far as playing the game goes i'm off and on with that too sadly just haven't found that ideal group and often lived in very inconvenient places for playing, philly is nice though, this will be my way of sneaking back into the game though. I feel my strong points are color choices and Character models, i do well with vehicles i feel but i'm just not great at weathering them more so out of lack of a technique than skill i think just need a direction to go with it i suppose. Here is 2 of my favorite Characters from 2 years or so ago, yes they are on Dakka from another user that user is also me but this account is all written down and what not. I'm not yet a great photographer but i'm working on it daily! Also i'm awful at writing so yeah sorry ahead of time for the grammar and what not.
First up is my Chaos exalted hero, love this guy just a few bits i wish were a little better.
and here is my commissar, also my first finecast model didn't love the stuff. He is alittle blurry and needs a base, im not the best photographer yet.
Sooooooooo on to the current project the Tau! The paint scheme is rather simple but i think as a whole it will look nice though i will try thinking of a way to spice them up without changing the overall feel of them. i got a drone and a warrior together tonight so we can start with that! The feet in reality have vertical marks on the hooves but they refuse to show up in the photos ill try to fix that when the full squad is complete.
My original Tau army i painted back in 2000 was blue! one of the color schemes from the book actually but i since sold them off and bought some guard.
I haven't decided how I should do the Sept markings yet , I want to do them in red but my thing is I have a slight essential tremor, its basically non existant but the longer i hold small objects the harder it is to remain steady. For now I wrap my brushes in electrical tape till they are large like a marker almost and mount my models on top of old paint pots or blocks of wood, if anyone else has the same issue try both of those things it makes a massive difference! Does anyone know of an easy way to get crisp markings other than decals ? I was thinking of trying to find a red micro pen, not sure if they exist though.
I wanted the bases to be something similar to white sand but they look sorta umm empty? idk, maybe i could make use of some dead grassy stuff poking out ? or small stones perhaps ? i'm a bad baser lol.
That's all for now just something to start this off, ill pop in some more photos when the unit is complete, hopefully by Monday or so. Shooting for 2 models a day for now, I just cant paint fast on account of the tremor thingy i mentioned earlier. ( if anyone else has an essential tremor feel free to pm me or ask here for tips on working with it maybe we can share ideas!)
The Carmine dragon is coming too! just not sure when yet it wasn't in stock when i ordered it and just recently got shipped hoping to see it this week! ill post some wip pics of it when it arrives, supper hyped about it!
There is a link to my Flickr in the signature feel free to check it out for a few more angles of the models. Again i'm totally new to this whole blog/updating thing so if you want anything specific like videos, tutorials or just something covered lemme know.
anyone know why my pictures keep disappearing ?

After over a month of waiting it is finally here! For the next couple of days i'm putting the tau to the side for a short bit to get this thing underway, ill upload some new tau pics this evening found a way to get the squad marks done and what not made a huge difference.
I picked up a micron pen in red sizes .005 and .01, was fairly easy to make marks with them and you can wipe it off with some airbrush cleaner and a quetip if you mess it up. The real issue with the micron pens is that they don't dry very quickly and will smear unbelievably if you touch it before it dries, what i did was left them sit overnight and varnished them again in the morning from pretty far away until i got a good coat on them, seems i can rub it or w/e now and it won't come off.
Now about that dragon!
The dude just left it in the rain! it was a soaking mess i poked a hole in the box with my finger. -.- the dragon itself was fine however! XD
thats everything from the baggy, not a whole lot of pieces and no warped bazaar pieces either. The whole kit is actually pretty clean, insanely greesy but no real imperfections to complain about theres2 bubbles in his one wing but they seem to be intentional dips in the skin but they look like bubbles not sure what im going to do about them maybe ill make it a little hole ? idk we'll see.
The only real issue with the kit 3 of the spikes on his back are busted off about half way, kinda looks fine though tbh, ill likely just clue 2 back on and leave one broken or 2 broken who knows.
getting a bath while i eat my burger
So i'm painting him blue, I know the FW bit says they are ruby red then purple latter in life but im hung up on a deep blue for some reason. The part i'm realllllly stuck on is what to do with the large scales or stoney looking bits a long his back andside/legs etc was thinking makingthem particularly dark compared to the skin and brightening them up a bit near the bottom back of them.
ill be back with lots of pictures as he goes together and starts getting painted! any ideas for the scaley bits feel free to throw them out there!

So I have started in on the dragon but first, these brushes! My current brushes are series 7s and are taped up to about 2x the normal size , larger things cause less of the tremor stuff to happen. I ordered 3 of them can't wait to try them out, if they are nice ill end up buying the rest of the set for sure. The front end of them unscrew and you can turn it around and store it inside the handle as well.
lol...
Ok now the dragon..
I'm still slightly worried about the wings they aren't done yet just not sure how i want to go about it i might base them in white and then shade from there or just try to brighten it up from here idk yet im leaving them alone for last right now don't wanna mess them up :/. The skin color im pretty happy with its blue and vibrant against the purple and i think it will stand out rather well after i base the armor plates and spike, which will be like brown to cream and the teeth black to cream. Today my big goal is to highlight all the scales/brighten them up a tad bit -.- , wash them in dark purple and get some matt varnish on this guy so its not so shiny, first time using golden paints. Tomorrow i'll touch up the skin where it should be a little more blue ( like the tail inside and part of his arm) and get the armor and spiky bits based along with the claws.
After he is done ill be back on my tau, i plan to spice them up a bit after looking over some of my other models the other night i feel like im being lazy with my tau ;/ sooooo same paint scheme more technique though!
C&C is welcome
also heres my box would maybe black tissue paper help reduce light enough?

Bit off a slow week for me but i'm registered for my classes and got some ogres painted up so its all good and i started in on my infinity contest entry!
here is the ogres trying to take better pictures, they still aren't perfect but much better at least. Some bits a little out of focus but its not like way out of focus i should have it figured out soon
turns out i'm moving to New Zealand before the end of the year so i'm condensing my warhammer stuff, painting and selling off everything I don't REALLLY want to drag across the world. Grr they look more blurry than they did on my computer aiofnasdfa ill have it sorted out soon...stupid cameras -.-

Yeah hes rather big lol biggest thing i have ever painted
OK, so I have been busy with my Inifinty model for the DakkaDakka painting challenge and haven't done much else. I never enter painting challenges so this is my first and I spent way to much time trying to make sure everything is perfect, however I did manage to squeeze in some work on the carmine dragon today. I started on the face to work on cleaning up some of the colors a bit and basing the horns, tongue, and eyes. The horns came out better than I expected, they still need the burnt umber oil wash on them but I'm out of the mix and don't want to make a mess right now.
Ugh I need to find the setting to make the focus area bigger so the whole thing is in focus ill figure that out tonight!
The burnt umber wash should darken them up just a bit and get the area near the connection point nice and dirty/dark.
The teeth i'm going to make black at the connection point and do them similar to the horns just with black/grey instead of browns.

AHHH OK Got a little more work done on the dragon i'm just stuck on what to do with the scales really cant seem to find a idea for it that I'm 100% on. In other news I'm in a paint a ton of Infinity personal challenge now.
My Shasvastii army and mine/mybrothers Japanese sectorial army.
This is a direct copy from the same version of this log on the Infinity site.
Hello, I'll be painting and posting my Shasvastii army as it comes together as well as the Japanese sectorial that's currently in the mail.
I got myself a Shasvastii Expeditionary Force starter set about 2 weeks ago maybe after entering my Para Commando in the DakkaDakka Infinity painting challenge and becoming obsessed with Infinity models.
Victor.Drellings by victor.drellings, on Flickr
Then managed to get my hands on a pretty sweet coupon and purchased a full set of Minitaire paints to try out, I have been using Vallejo for years and still am along with the Minitaire once they finally arrive. I tried to hold off on painting until my new paints came thinking it would be a nice start for the new paint set. The thing is, the paint is on back order and I won't have it until late this month, so I got stuck in with my Vallejo, Tamiya, and Golden stuff while I wait.
First one done Shasvastii seed soldier! I really like the model so i'm happy I have 3 of the guys to paint up. i'm not amazing with a camera, hoping to get a macro lens soon though.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/drellings/sets/72157634681132569/
The goal is a model a day now that i'm settled in to my classes. The second Seed-soldier is a little bit of armor work from being finished.
C&c is welcome.
Something to note about my painting.
I hate HATE hard edge highlights with a passion. I'm talking about the GW style 20 shades different edging on EVERYTHING, kind of highlights. I know these are popular and I often get advised to add some edge highlights, but I simply hate the look :/. Nothing against anyone that likes that look, I just simply don't
Also I have an old Omni 4000 airbrush, it's my old old old one from when I first got an airbrush. I kept it around thinking I'll just use it to base and prime instead of changing needles in my Krome. Yeah that didn't happen, I like my shiny Krome too much so I just swap needles and waste time YAY! Anyway, If anyone wants a decent airbrush on the cheap pm me, i'll take offers. I cleaned it up and tested it out on some cardboard, no problems from what I can tell. You may want to grab a new needle for it, about 4-6$ from Chicago airbrush, sometimes they are even on sale. I'll provide pics if anyone wants .

For now yeah. Before I move to New Zealand, around February is when I leave, so before then I'll be getting rid of much of my 40k stuff since I personally like CB much better than GW and have more fun playing Infinity. So over the next couple months you might see an odd assortment of painted or unpainted stuff going up for sale.
Oh actually I have a compressor, but I use that at the moment so it's last on the list of things to go since I can't attach a power converter to it.
