"Two Fleets entered the Ry'leh system and befell the world there in search of the large amount of Bio-Mass that was promised them by their brood lords.

A sect of both Hive Fleet Leviathan and Hive Fleet Behemoth entered the system, little did the tyrants and hive mind know that what lurked there was much more formidable than what they had faced before and it was his will that they were there. Quietly slumbering a new voice entered the synapse of the descending fleets and put his new plan into action.

The planets were full of human life split into small outcropped cities. They proved to be of little consequence or challenge for the broods that flooded the streets, but after planet fall the over-minds and tyrants were having extreme trouble contacting the dormant genestealers that were supposed to mark the coming of such a force. No call was answered.

The only other organisms that answered the call were that of another fleet hungry for the bio-mass and ready to fight the opposing fleet for it, thus began a civil war across the system as spawning pools were created and corrupted.

AS the fighting began between the two fleets it seems that the Zoanthropes became a fleeting memory and soon disappeared from the ranks all together, the synapse on both sides lessening as the psychic power of the fleets removed themselves. The next thing to start disappearing were the tervigons.

The tyrants began to search more for their missing links only to find once again more of the opposing fleet around every corner, the casualties were beginning to take their effect as both fleets power began to diminish.

Soon a call from the missing Brood lords was heard calling both of what remained of the fleets to a small continent on one of the central planets, eager to find out what had happened and to get the much needed force back both Hive Tyrants took off taking their retinue of guards, warriors and their Primes with them. The continent was basically empty scarce a few crustacean and the ran smell of fish.

The only structure on the entire plane was a large deep green rock out cropping, from here it was heard the brood lords call. Upon entering the structure en mass there stood the cults for both fleets alongside a retinue of human cultists and a new batch of half strains showing a new scheme of markings.

It was here that both tyrants came face to face and heard resound within the walls the order for them to prove the strength of their fleet and only one would be honored if it killed the other. Above them the Zoanthropes floated above providing a voice for what ever power lurked within these walls.

In a defining scream the two Tyrants challenged each other and began their fight for all the bio-mass as them and their retinue charged each other, it was a tough battle and proved the martial strength and blood thirstyness of both fleets, but it was the Tyrant of Behemoth that fell as its head was torn from its body, The surviving tyrants turned to accept his prize still bleeding from a multitude of wounds as the followers from both fleets lie either dead or horribly wounded. It was in the moment that within the walls you could feel the smile of something dark and sinister as when the Tyrant from Leviathan turned to face the idol there behind it stood none other than the well known Swarmlord bedecked in the colors of some strange hive, lashing tentacles hanging from his face. A quick slash found the surviving tyrant dead, as a flood of gaunts, and the brood lords and their cults flooded the structure and slaughtered every single surviving organism and consumed their Bio-mass. It was in this moment a new Hive Fleet emerged a combination of the two, aware of all the battles and tactics of both. It was then that all contact to the over-mind was severed for both fleets and both sects were presumed to have just been bested, the Over-minds worried redirected more fleets to the system to help out.

This was all going according to plan, as a new voice, a new over-mind curled his fingers and rolled back over. It was only a matter of time till enough Bio-Mass was generated to help him rise again, but until then his new hive of followers would have to become stronger and spread his word across the multiverse.

Thus Hive Fleet Cthulhu was born"

I have always been a huge Lovecraft fan and since i was younger i have always had the idea to do this project, but did not feel i had the resources to complete it to the standard i wished. I have finally begun the process that hopefully will become as beautiful and full filling army as the stories have been for me.

I hope you enjoy and as always C&C is welcome.

I want to keep the bone and blue as to relay the idea of it being a genetic mutation but i do need to add more green into the mix.

What sort of conversions are you planning to implement? It goes without saying that little facial tentacles are the way to go but have you any other ideas for ways to Cthulhu-fy your nids?

Also, have you considered removing their bottom jaw and attaching the tentacles to their upper jaw? you could even have the tentacles attached just behind their top teeth so they protrude slightly in-front of the tentacles.
Kinda like:

This originally started as a quick example drawing but I let myself get carried away and it developed into a fully coloured concept drawing. (that's how you can tell I'm excited about this project )
You could take a lot of inspiration from different sea creatures like the angler fish and of course the humble octopus.
Just my two cents.

Good luck

No i have had those same ideas, I am going to put wings on my Warriors, I intend to have my Tyrant destroying the mind of some guardsmen or a termi.

I am really excited to have you following

Automatically Appended Next Post:
@Xendarc I am going to for the Hive Guard do wings on their backs and hopefully extend their jaws somewhat like the Angler fish using your idea as a spear head for that, might take me a little time but i have added your idea into the marks.

I need to get my little beauties primed so i can work on them and try the newer color scheme.

This is the image and idea I am going to go with on my Hive Guard Along with the Tentacles possibly but i need to make sure it does not look too cluttered.

Any suggestions?

So with some kind suggestions and a decent amount of internet browsing, I present my first hive guard (Minus the gun which is being painted separately).

As i stated i wanted to go with a sea creature theme to blend in all the genetic mutations of the new hive fleet in with the power of the Old One. With the hive guard to give them some extra sight with their gun, I went with inspiration from the angler fish. This was my first time working with Green Stuff in such a manner and hopefully all i learned while working with it will allow me to make the next one look better. I currently have 3 Hive Guard on my table with only one with their Angler Eye.

Today i am hoping to finally get to blast out some paint on the test gaunt to resemble the new idea for the paint scheme.

As always love C&C

ooow! You've got a nice idea here, really look forward to seeing your progress. The test gaunt is very promising.
I love to see fellow hive fleets taking shape.
Best of luck powering through the gribblies, if you can do that then i'm sure your hive fleet will thrive.

Today i was able to get some work done on the hive guard and some more hormogaunts, it is a slow process but i am enjoying the results. I got the first layer of skin on them and was able to wash them before calling it quits, I did not get any photos post wash but i feel the point gets across.

Every Layer is one layer closer to completion

The angler on the hivegaurd reminds me of a creature from a HP Lovecraft inspired movie called 'From Beyond' Yes I'm sure was the intention even if you didn't see the movie.

I concur. TThis is a fantastic project, great fluff intro!

I would definitely cut off the bottom jaw of any models with tentacle-faces...

Good luck with this, and keep up the good work!

I got the Idea from Xen about maybe using the angler fish on one of my models, but i know the movie you are talking about and you are totally right!

@HDBB i am going to go with that idea on the next gaunts, sadly i had already done the molding before this idea came up on the current three.

@BloodGenesis Thanks, i have always felt i had a knack for bases more then the actual painting of the model, but i hope to even that out!

@Grimdork I know right!

So in light of having a day off, i decided to try and get a little work done on the Hive Guard.

I got the bone white done and attempted to blend it across the body, i still have to do the White highlights but am going to wait until the end when i detail then entire model.

I then continued on to finish the blue base and made sure to wash it to add more depth to the armor.

I am still unsure how i fully want to do the orb at the end of his tentacle, i want to do a sauron eye, but am thinking about doing a dark blue into a super bright blue then blinding white kind of like a seers glass ball.

I am going to try and do some more work on him and the lasting gaunts but it all depends on how busy i get at work this week.
