Lost in the Warp

Hey folks,

So I just spotted this over on Faeit 212's revived blog about an upcoming event at Warhammer World on July 13th called Enter the Citadel. More details on White Dwarf Daily here.

Tickets are 25GBP each, Warhammer World is in Nottingham, UK. I might be going, if only to just get Phil Kelly to sign and bless my Chaos Space Marines codex. Anyone else thinking of going? I don't know if this event happens every year, does it?

Good catch. I am reading that book now and am enjoying it thoroughly.

As soon as he retires from a position he was never qualified for to begin with.

Wonder why he does not show up, iirc, he tended to show up at Gamesdays.

Perhaps because he's tired of people trying to lynch him? I know I would be...

Or because he's largely not involved with 40k anymore and is instead focused on Fantasy right now? I'm more surprised by the lack of Jeremy Vetock, given that the new Tau book is so radically skewing the balance of 40k.

I would love to go, just so I could ask them about what sort of conversation they had while playtesting Blood Angels for 6th edition after they discovered that the most thematic and iconic of BA builds is almost non-functional against most armies.

Good catch, considering he's in the same panel as Jervis Johnson and Phil Kelly, both renowned Codex writers. Wonder if JJ and PK are writing the Apoc book?

You never know, he might be in the last panel.

But still, anyone planning to go?

I'm not sure if anyone else is planning to attend this event besides me, but I've my event ticket and train tickets booked! Also, Forge world just announced that they have a few of their old limited edition models on for sale (Skin Wolves and Imperial Enforcer)

Does anyone have any questions they want me to ask, if I get the chance?

I'd love to hear anything you can get about the new FW Apocalypse book, especially the IG and Tau stuff. And if you can look through it and get me the rules for the Marauder Destroyer (need to know if I should start building mine for an upcoming game) that would be even better.

I want to see some answers about GW's stupid business decisions, but I know the chances of getting a real answer on any of that are pretty much nonexistent.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I second this, though I think it's obvious at this point what GW plans on doing with them: jack and/or gak.

On the train now. FW has the IA: Apoc book up for viewing and pre-orders at the site so I'll def get you your Marauder Destroyer rules, Peregrine. Lol.

With regards to GW business decisions, I'm planning on asking some questions, like regarding the Wave Serpent going to Direct Order right as it skyrockets to popularity.

It's weird, the event is now over, yet there doesn't seem to be a trace of news from it anywhere.

Lost in the Warp

I just got back from Nottingham. Simply put, I am drained, exhausted, blasted, etc.

I'll post a full report tomorrow, but I attended all of the Design sessions and because there weren't many people around, I manage to have very good, long conversions with Phil Kelly, Jervis Johnson, Guy Haley, and Jes Goodwin. I asked almost all of them about SoBs, and from the sounds of it it's not in the pipeline anytime soon. However, Phil Kelly has expressed interest in it, although he really wants to work on the IG 'dex because there's a certain "human" element to it missing from all the other races. He also mentioned that there are 3 Citadel Designers who have full SoB armies as their main army, and reassured me that they're still around. It's apparently also hard to "get rid" of a dex's contents once introduced, so no fear of Codex: Black Templars, etc. becoming a supplement. I prodded him more about how Witchhunter and Daemonhunters became Codex: GK, and he told me he wasn't involved in that, but it was an oddity within the office.

With regards to the Marauder Destroyer, the pic I snapped turned out to be terrible, but I can still make out most of it. Almost the points cost of two Stormravens, BS 3, 11/11/10 5 HP. Three TLACs, one TL HB, one TL AssCan, three heavy bomb clusters with Strafing Run. Options for chaff/flare launcher, armored cockpit, distinguished markings, something targeting, and two more options I can't make out. Bomb Clusters are Str 6 AP 6 Apocalyptic Barrage, Bomb, One-Shot, and Cluster Bomb.

I placed my orders for the IA: Apoc book simply because it looks so awesome. I also managed to pick up a 2012 Skin Wolf, 2012 Imperial Enforcer, the event-only DKoK Quartermaster, and one of the FW guys threw in a Games Day 2011 Chaos Dwarf and a show-only Ork Runtbot & Grot for free, too.

There were maybe about 20 or 30 people there, tops. I'm probably the only one who is going to be posting anything from the event, too.

Edit: Also, the new Apoc book is BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. And so are Jes Goodwin's master sculpts. I love listening to Jes and Phil talk, they're so full of insights.

Edit 2: Proof that I was there. This is Phil Kelly and Jes Goodwin talking at the first seminar about Designing the Eldar.

Also, another fun pic. Jervis Johnson unboxing the Firestorm Redoubt and showing us the rules at his kiosk. And yes, that's sprueless GW plastics packaged in ziplock bags with an awesome-looking booklet with the rules inside.

Oh yeah, one last thing about the Sisters of Battle. According to Phil Kelly, the reason why they never got plastic minis was because they couldn't be plastic moulded by the current process. He wasn't really sure what the issue was, but there was something about the sculpt which meant that it could only be cast in metal. Presumably this led to declining SoB sales and a lack of development in them as a result.

Considering what kind of models they've been making in plastic over the past few years I refuse to believe the Sisters sculpts were soooo complicated it just couldn't be done.

Also, not sure I like the idea of new kits coming with pre-clipped parts. That's something I'd much rather do myself and not have left to a careless factory worker who could potentially ruin the parts for the expensive kit I just bought. If I screw up clipping a part off the sprue and break it or have to fill something in that's on me.

I'm surprised the attendance was so low; the Forgeworld Open Days and such usually draw quite a crowd.

Thanks for the summary, too bad the pictures are mostly illegible though.

Is the plastic re-useable? I'm wondering if this sprueless thing is a move to re-use the sprue waste, or if it's just a case of having it clipped out to fit into a smaller box?

I don't imagine it'd be too difficult to have a metal die made that'd cut out the sprue parts after it'd been moulded, but it's probably still going to involve a lot of extra handling.
