Finally, the showdown we’ve been waiting for! Tournament Tau vs. Tournament Eldar! So far Reecius’ Eldar have only been beaten by a Tau list that seized the initiative, will the Eldar get more of the same or will they get their revenge on the space commies?! - See more at: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/2013/07/03/warhammer-40k-video-battle-report-tau-vs-eldar-2000-pts/#sthash.GLdyscfR.dpuf

Another awesome report, I was surprised to see you overpower a Tau list in shooting, never going to underestimate an Eldar list, what I'd give to cut my teeth on a list like that.

The new camera angle is good, maybe pop in closer every now and then, it's good to see faces while you talk.

I'm giving the Ferrari Fullmane award to Shadowsun, for blowing up her drone and getting shredded.

Looking forward to seeing more!

Haha, the Ferrari Fullmane award is such a funny name!

Yeah, I think the overhead shot is better, however, you miss out on the emotion of seeing the players' faces. Going to have to find a compromise between the two.

But yeah, Eldar are no joke at all. They have all the tools the need to take on any army.

After going toe to toe with Tau twice, I know that Eldar can win that fight.

The two armies that still scare me are Venom Spam DE (which I will play against Frankie's soon) and Mech IG, which I can play against soon as I own the army! Haha, I will just have a friend play mine.

Lastly, Nids I think are a wildcard. They used to give me lots of trouble in 5th. Every game was a bloodbath and I would barely win or barely lose. I will have to play a seasoned Nid player and see how the new Eldar fare. I think they gained some offense but lost the psychic defense. It will be an interesting match.

Reece: Thank you for proving what I've been saying all this time, Disintegrators on Ravagers are a great way to go-at least ONE in a DE army is going to be good.

Also, you mentioned Mech IG and Venom Spam but what about Serpent Spam? You can prob fit 10 Serpents into 2k =).

I was thinking of bringing some Warp Hunters to the Golden Throne GT but I am not sure, what do you think?

Great report, as usual.

Reecius - based on your past few reports - your new catchphrase may well become "Another good turn for Eldar". You've been saying it quite a bit lately...

Thanks for another fun batrep. I prefer the new camera angle/view as well. I kept better track of what was happening in the game.

The new angle isn't bad, it does give a clearer view of the match as a whole, but it feels jerkier and I miss the close ups of the nice paint jobs. Also the lack of talking heads makes it less personal.

Glad to see a Dark Eldar/Eldar force beat Tau. Since I always run a Dark Eldar Hellion list, I know how brutal they can be. Tau are hard, but I like the challenge. I've still yet to comfortably beat them with my Dark Eldar.

I do love the Disintegrators on Ravagers, but I only run one Ravager as it is and I need those extra Dark Lances. Now, as I build up my Dark Eldar/Eldar alliance force, I'll probably be fitting one in. Though taking a Talos to go with an Avatar, two Wraithlords and a Wraithknight is also pretty tempting...

Great rep as usual, the camera angle gives a good overview.

I do think the Tau player should not have focussed his entire army on the Wraithknight, but ignore it for a turn. Especially since it had a 4++ (I'd be temped to not Forewarn the Knight to make it an attractive target).
It's hard to kill, and the damage output compared to the relative "easy" targets like the WarWalkers and the Ravager is low.

If those Fire Warriors were deployed instead of reserved they might have made a big contribution in the turn 1 return fire?

Another awesome battle report. I'm really liking the synergies between DE and Eldar units.

I've been trying to figure out this match up myself. It very well may depend on the Eldar list style, but if you do take on a good Nids player, I think you're going to need every single unit of Guardians to get their hands dirty.

@ Reecius

I'm definitely giving a Ferrari Fullmane award in all my games, for "The unit most likely to be an enemy agent"

It'll be good to see you take on the armies you think will give you so much trouble, you've definitely go the tools you need to beat them all, Nids will be that wild card though.

You've turned me around on the wraithknight too, When I first picked up the Eldar book I was convinced they'd be a massive waste of points, but like you say the mobility of that unit is crazy, it'll never see an assault if you don't want it to and will generally just be a massive thorn in people's sides.

@Mortetvie

Yeah, good point on serpent spam. They lack the insane barrage and template weapons IG can pack in, but they do have better mobility and Wave Serpents have seriously become almost too good. Like, flirting with OP good. I think that would be a very difficult battle. Remember when I played your Mechdar with my Footdar at the San Diego GT? I barely won with some good luck. If we were to play that again, I would have less bodies (as they all went up in cost) and Serpents got so much more powerful. I think that would be a very difficult game.

But yeah, the Dissy Ravager has been an absolute work horse for me, every single game. I totally see the argument for taking Lances in a pure DE list as they need the long range heavy AT, but with Eldar I have the Wraithknight for that. as well as a lot of other options too, if I need it.

I have tried the Warp Hunter, Night Spinner and Vaul's support squad, they were all OK, Nothing really jumped out at me as top notch, honestly. I think what I will end up doing is going with another Wave Serpent, honestly. They are just so stupidly good and protect your troops from things like Hell Turkeys and such, plus keep them mobile.

@DexKivuli

I have been getting a lot of good luck with the old Eldar, lately! Can't deny it.

@Garukadon

Thanks! Yeah, I think a mix of that and some close ups will be best.

@Tanuvein

Dissy Ravager is my home boy! I think he has earned a permanent place in my list at this point.

I thought about running an MC bomb style list, too. Avatar, Wraithknights and Lords, possibly a Talos. I think it would be fun if a bit one-dimensional. Certain armies would smoke you.

@Nivoglibina

Yeah, I threw him up there hoping he would draw a lot of fire. The thing is though, if he didn't shoot, I would have assaulted the following turn and then it would have gotten ugly. It is a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario for the other player.

And yes, I think the Fire Warriors would have been better on the board. We have been trying to convince Israel to add an Ethereal to his list as it would help him out so much on defense.

@CaptKaruthors

Yeah, they go together like PB&J, seriously compliment each other well.

@Jifel

Yeah, I agree. My previous games with Nids were always close ranged blood baths. You have to engage them directly if you hope to win, they are too fast and numerous to avoid.

@Sheokronath

Yeah, you have to practice against armies you struggle with or what's the point? If I play Marines I know exactly what to do to beat them (as most folks do) as you play against them so much. The less common but harder match-ups are where you need to practice.

But yeah, the Wraithknight is just a fantastic tool. I think too many people looked to him to be a kind of hero-hammer unit, which he isn't. He's a multi-functional tool that can perform a lot of different roles, he's not a Draigo.

Yeah, you have to be careful around Reece's list. It is one of those deceptively good lists and when run with Reece's expertise, can really surprise some. If you are not careful and under-estimate it, you can end up getting whooped pretty bad.

Quick couple of questions.

What was the choice to play with iyandin book over the codex?

What upgrades did you pick for your farseers? Any runes?

Great battle report as usual. I think I prefer the more up close shots as it feels like you are standing around the table like in your own club. The overview is nice for seeing what happened though.

You have really proved the utility of a wraithknight to me. I was completely on the fence about them but I now think they are a fantastic unit (if a horror to transport).

@Jy2

Thanks, buddy, I appreciate the endorsement. I prefer TAC lists and I do understand they don't always look that powerful at first glance.

@Ailideon

I feel that the Warlord Traits in that book are generally better than the Eldar book.

No runes, no. Warding might not be a bad choice but I typically pick items that are generally good instead of situationally good.

@Ansacs

I think what we will do is a mix of the up-close and broad view shots because you do lose some of the personality of the players when you can't see their faces.

The Wraith Knight is actually really easy to transport. I can fit him in a Sabol tray with room to spare. Just don't glue the waist together (it pops together) and magnetize the arms (which also allows you to swap out the options) and it is pretty easy to get around, actually.

Great battrep once again!

I dont know if i like the overhead view as much as seeing the emotion range of the players in the game. It is interesting to see stuff off the board the next shot though.

In my experience with Eldar I havent had many hard times against Tau. Our serpents are too good and the fact that bladestorm destroys most mc's is amazing! Also i love seeing the faces of Tau players when Jump moves are used against them.

Awesome report! weird to see him not playing the farsightbomb. Do you think the next time he is in a video you could have him flex for us a little ; )

The overhead view was pretty good, not to shaky and we did get to see a lot of the board and most of the models. Idk how well it works for every battle report where there is a lot of blocking terrain. It worked well here though!

The eldar army looks killer, I haven't seen a list like that. Do you like it better than the footdar?

I will...never be a memory

@Gray

Yeah, so far our Eldar armies have had the upper hand but I did get smoked pretty badly when at Tau player seized on me and took out several key units turn 1.

@darkcloud

Haha, yes, definitely more Israel flexing!

Wave Serpents are so insanely good that it is practically a crime not to take at least one. Footdar is still viable, but with all the Turkeys flying around these days, I feel that I need at least 1 Serpent, maybe 2.

So I may have to change the name of my army to the Mighty, Mighty Mixedar or something....just doesn't have the same ring to it! haha

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Since Laser Lock does not seem to work on a model with 2 scatter lasers have you thought about, or tried out other combinations yet?

I am interested in Scatter Laser/Bright Lance combo because of all of the wraithknights/riptides/broadsides/oblits/vehicles etc that were are seeing these days.

Grant Theft uses that exact combo and says he likes it a lot. I still prefer the twin Scatter as it is such an overwhelming amount of firepower. I have tried mixing but so far found the twin Scatter configuration to work best in my list.
