Aw shucks, thanks.

He's not quite finished, I have some details to do, largely the axe, and plan to weather him up a bit and introduce some blood spatter etc..
Basically he's too 'clean' for me just now, he needs to look like he spends his life fighting! He's 90% there though.

Buy a container of flock.
Buy a bottle of white glue.
Paint white glue onto base
Dip base into flock
Shake off excess
Next mini

Bases don't have to be fancy.

True
The main problem I have is that all of the models (Nids specifically) are already glued to the bases so trying to get the glue on in an even and neat manner would require quite a bit of effort (especially on the smaller gaunt bases - last thing one would want is flock all over their feet!).

Not a big deal, just choose a color/scheme where flock on the feet would make sense. I.e. Mud or thick ash.

My minis have flock on the feet or sometimes clinging to the bottom of cloaks. It just makes it look dirty.

Or a wet brush to clean them once they've gone in really helps too. I normally base after I've fixed the model in base, as I prefer the model to look like its "in" the terrain, rather than stuck on top, but nobody wants sand squirting up their inside leg!

Nice. I have soo many unfinished mechs and monsters... I am glad to see some others using the Krull model as I have it myself for my count as Bloodthirster. I also have the dreamforge leviathan I just bought, which is awesome.

Yeah that Krull model is pretty awesome.
So is the scratch built Riptide. What did you make him out of exactly? Hes definitely leading the ninja Tau party!

Krull is, however, a bitch to put together.

See those knee pads? They're moulded onto the legs, but there are three additional components that need to be attached, and only the spike has any real sort of contact point, and the upper and lower trims (which I decided to leave off for my own sanity) are extraordinarily delicate and have no clear point of attachment.

I've been modelling on and off for 25 years, and couldn't honestly recommend him to anyone who wasn't supremely confident with working with resin, pinning, gap filling and not attaching themselves to stuff with superglue! I've enjoyed painting him, but putting him together nearly broke me (and it all looked so simple when he was in pieces!)

Ouch!
How would he compare to FW kits (if you've built any)?

I (thoughtfully ) gave my FW Revenant to my mate to assemble (who didnt have much resin/pinning exp) and he said it was utter hell being honest.

Probably on a par, I've subsequently built a FW KoS and Khorne Daemon Prince, and they're probably similar, but I had Krull under my belt when I tackled them, so they would have seemed easier anyway.

One thing in his favour is he is far less prone to the million fiddly bits syndrome that those kits suffered from, but would definitely have benefited from a little more thought on how some of the smaller bits attach.

Totally worth it now I'm out the other side though.

Thanks! He's made out of pretty much anything Tau I could find in my bits box, plus a good about of plasticard too. The legs are a set of
Piranha bodies covered with an (attempted) samurai style armour plating from plasticard. The torso was scratch built with a few tau engines and
other little gubbinz, and the arms were dreadknight legs (if I remember correctly). I'm not a great painter, but I'm rather proud I've managed to keep the
swampy/forest theme going with such a hefty model.

Theres a full WIP in my sig if you wanted to have a good look at how I put it together

That Krull model is fantastic too - its definitely what I'd see as the proper size of a bloodthirster, and I agree with you there azreal, it was definitely worth the effort
you put into it

Also, I'm not a WHFB player, so I've no idea what it is, but that giant, hulking, chaosy, walkery thing looks sweet. What is it in game?
