Well, it seems like the Imperium lost again, according to that ending. ..

I think the only real winner was the famed Tau commander S'tatus Q'uo.

I'd quite like our only fieldable stealth commander to remain pretty much the same personally, regardless of intense hatred for her some people seem to have for reasons I've yet to actually pin down.

Giving her a Ghostkeel battlesuit and allowing her to remain an Independent Character wouldn't harm that.

People hate her because she never loses. Even when she does experience a defeat, it is only temporary, and she bounces back and crushes the people she lost to originally in a hilariously one-sided battle.

I don't know, did Draigo, Lysander, Azrael, Logan, Sicarius or Marneus ever have defeats they didn't bounce back from? Or which they didn't in the end win the wider war even if like Shadowsun there were initial setbacks, personal injuries and defeats and such? Also I don't remember her engagements against named-characters ever being hilariously one-sided. Against unnamed enemies, sure, but every single named character in Warhammer 40k hilariously crushes unnamed amounts of enemies with ease. That's normal for the setting.

To be honest Shadowsun seems pretty normal by the standard of 40k's 'Oh-so-amazing-protagonist armour' characters. Could it be done better? Definitely. But then again I don't hold GW to such a high literary standard and additionally I hardly think Shadowsun is the sole character who needs calling out on this. She's survived before purely because of the mercy of a Guardsman. I don't think any Space Marine Special Character has ever survived because a Mook, like an Ork Boy or Cultist, allowed them too and had them in their power. There's reason for change, sure, but for a lot of characters, not just Shadowsun.

I mean, if we're being technical, Farsight's got a better record. He's never lost a war, like her, always overcome his foes in the end, like her, but he didn't need bailing out at Mu'gulath Bay whereas she did in Mont'ka. Additionally he has no battle like Voltoris where Shadowsun simply lost and was unwilling to attack Voltoris again because she felt it was too tough. Farsight's biggest defeat ever comes from Grog but, unlike Voltoris, he does just get back up and kill Grog and his Waaagh! whereas Shadowsun simply has to give up on Voltoris for good.

A Pyrrhic Victory for the Tau. Also this new Ad Mech act could lead to the destruction of mankind if its used so carelessly.

It's one thing to Exterminatus a planet. It's another to so recklessly exterminatus an entire sub-sector of space with a single bomb. Even the Imperium of Man doesn't have that kind of manpower to lose.
