Raw Dogger calls Reecius' Eldar out as the challenges continue to try and end the Eldar winning streak!

Nice try, Jason. Yeah, I would drop Belial and his unit for some more shooty shooty dakkadakka.

Reecius, looking forwards to your game against Janthkin's Chaos (or maybe bugs as well since he is borrowing some of my models). His army, just like yours, is deceptively good. He hasn't lost even once to Adam's very good triptide Tau list, demolishing them in 2 of the games.

And of course, we'll have a rematch the next time I'm up there, which will be when I go to pick up my stuff. Care to face mechdar?

Enjoyed the battle report! I've watched a few Frontline Gaming reports before and I think they are only getting better! Thanks for sharing guys!

I don't see why the DA player would say "Don't take terminators anymore".

He deepstriked them in behind the entire enemy army. He didn't place them towards one corner of the enemy's deployment zone or the other, he put them directly behind the entire army. It's vanguard strike and they were placed directly in the back corner. Seems silly. They did take an entire army to gun down though which is why they still can be effective. Also Turn1 seems a little crazy. Wait for the enemy to spread his army out some, especially with night fighting. I believe you roll on NF before deciding how to deploy. I would also suggest fielding two squads minimum, or don't bother taking them at all.

Just seems a little crazy to say Terminators are bad when it's more of a tactical fail imo. Sorry if that seems mean. I meant it to improve gameplay

@Jy2

You know i am always down for a challenging game!

I actually just played a 9 skimmer Mechdar army yesterday with my Footdar and tabled them. He made some interesting tactical decisions which enabled me to win so soundly, but yes, I am interested in that match up as it is such a difficult game for me.

As for Dropping Belial, he agreed. Dark Angels are very competitive, you just need to play to their strengths which is lots and lots of cheap, shooty units.

@Saythings

Thanks, glad you like them! Any suggestions on ways to improve are always listened to and appreciated if you see something we could improve on.

And you hit the nail on the head as to his tactical errors. Trading a 500pt unit and 3 points (2 KP and Warlord) for a 125pt unit and 2 points (First Blood and 1KP) was a poor choice.

Termies just struggle this edition. They are too vulnerable to massed small arms fire. They can be quite good, but must be used expertly. They have become, IMO, a unit only for the highly skilled player as they die so easily for such a high points cost.

I was surprised that Rawdogger was able to hang in there for a good majority of the game. I dont think termies are a dead unit in general but I do think against certain armies you need to play them a little bit more carefully to ensure they can perform effectively without giving much back in return. Great report as usual Reece!

I agree that the termies are still viable. Personally I believe holding them back for a turn 2 deepstrike would have been better since with Night fight a proper turn 1 alpha strike was unlikely.

While the ravager would most likely survive, and threaten the bikes, with an 4+ invul from the power field I think it would actually be one of the lower threats (mass fire from the infantry being #1). So I would probably have shielded the bikes as best as possible with the razorbacks. This would have denied Reecius a large portion of his shooting potential that now was used on the terminators.

This would allow for a turn 2 (beta?) strike with the terminators + razors with content + remaining bikes + long range support.
Having the terminators come in turn 2 for either harrassment (out of LoS in the backfield) or support where needed on the frontline.

Hey reese have you gone against a pure ravenwing force. Mine has gone 12 games straight undefeated. I haven't had a chance to play the new eldar yet. Jusr curious if have how it went.

@y0disisray

Yeah, he was ultra aggressive which he needed to be but his Termies were just thrown away. The timing and location he dropped them gave units of mine that would have otherwise had nothing to shoot at, something to shoot at. A poor choice and if he had not done that, he could have pressed his advantage mid table and really come at me.

@Dutch Sage

I don't mean to imply that Terminators are worthless by any means, just that they are not as points efficient as other units. As always though, a skilled player can use any unit well. I just think folks who expect them to kick ass like in the fluff are going to be really disappointed.

I like the strategy you propose a lot. I think a turn 2 deep strike coming in with everything would have been much better and would have hit me very hard. His list is solid, with a little tweaking it will be very powerful.

@yellowfever

I have not, not yet. I think that would actually be a very tough game for me if the Ravenwing player played smart. I would have to use a lot of tricks to actually engage as (especially with the banner) he could dance around me for a number of turns wearing me down before I was able to engage. A lot of that match-up would depend on my fast, ranged units getting it done.

I think that would actually be a really interesting game.

If I lived up there I'd gladly play you. I live in san diego. You and me played several years ago. As a matter of I think you played my ravenwing with a 3 raider space wolf army.

Yeah, I lived in SD for 7 years! Great city, I miss it, actually.

And yeah, I think I remember that game. At GE, right? What army was I playing?

I think it was space wolves with 3 land raiders.

@yellowfever

Ah yeah! That was early 5th ed, back then I was running a triple raider list with Ragnar and a bunch of crazy nonsense. That was a fun list.

@CaptKaruthors

Yeah, the negative talk about Eldar online has been loco. They are amazing and have tools for everything.

Great batrep as usual.

I have to ask a couple of questions after seeing a few of your videos.

How is your terrain set up before each match? Is it done by the rule book with D3 pieces per 2x2 square or is it random set up? It doesn't seem like much terrain and a shooty army will most likely win on a table like that.

I don't recall how this board was set up but I have been to several of FLG's tournaments and usually they put one big line of sight blocking terrain in the center with a good sized piece of terrain in each corner. Lastly they use smaller pieces of terrain inbetween each of the four corner pieces of terrain. It's really balanced and doesn't over crown the board which I have been to tourneys like that and it was miserable moving models.

@Gundor

That table is largely set terrain but we don't use the book format we just eyeball it looking to make a fair table with as even a distribution of terrain as possible. We actually use a lot of LoS blocking terrain, down on the table there are not a lot of long range fire lanes. For example, the can terrain we count as completely blocking LoS.

@Yodisisray

Exactly, we set each table to be as fair to both shooting and assault armies as we can.

@Darkeldarcrone

Thanks!

Still enjoying these. Jason has nice spirit

terminators as early as they appeared seemed to get them wrecked. Maybe mid map deployment and later? Not sure. I was told that Marines field a lot of rockets these days... certainly with the mechanized stuff you had firepower... does it pay to have more SM squads with a few rockets?

Yeah, he basically threw away his hammer unit, which was a mistake.

And I like rockets (or Missile Launchers) a lot. They are versatile. I used to run a missile spam Wolf list and it was very effective. These days regular marines really struggle to make themselves useful. There are too many things out there that are cheaper that shoot or assault better.
