I'm a new transplant to Manhattan, (moved here for grad school last fall) and my love of 40K has recently been rekindled. I'm rebuilding an Eldar army and excited to try it out and meet some new people. I'm trying to figure out the gaming scene here; generally, I've heard the gaming scene in the city is rather lacking. I've been to the GW store a couple of time, which was alright. One of the two guys working there is pretty cool and there were a few gamers milling about each time. But, the crowd there seemed to be pretty young.

I hear that people play at the Complete Strategist? I hear it's also pay to play? Is there anywhere else? A well kept secret? Ideally, I'm looking for a solid group that plays regularly on the weekends. I know about the Warmongers club, but Thursday evenings will most likely not work for me once classes begin.

My gamer dating profile: I'm super easy going while managing to stay semi-competitive. I'm a stickler for rules, but only because I believe that consistent interpretation of the rules makes games fair for everyone (I'd always rather lose a fairly than win questionably). I love most things nerdy but manage to live a fairly balanced existence, I think. I'm getting older but there's still enough spring in my step.

Any information is helpful.

I'm a recent transplant too. Compared to where I was, NYC is a game store wasteland.

$5 to play at strategist on Thursday nights, sat is free (when the game room is available, which is usually.) The first time you come is free.

Sign up on warmongers forum. There's an escalation league happening now

I only go to gw on 8th if I'm meeting someone for a scheduled game.

Hey thanks. I was beginning to think there were no NYC residents on this forum, which wouldn't bode well... Now I just have to find a reasonable way to transport my jetbikes and falcons on the subway.

Thanks for the invite. I might be able to stop by on short notice, but otherwise you will see me there some Saturday or Thursday. And thanks for the gear suggestion, looks perfect.

KR Multicase, Battlefoam, and Sabol are other names that get tossed around for foam. They all have their pros/cons and supporters.

I'm north of Albany, so can't help you with games. I do try to keep an eye on NY threads though. I know there are some people in the Poughkepie area, and then strung out along the throughway all the way to Buffalo. Depending on how far you are willing to drive, there is a game somewhere in the state for you...

Driving is not an option, but I'd probably be willing to take a train somewhere for the occasional weekend tournament, depending on what my schedule allows.

And than you for the suggestions. I'm still dusting off the cobwebs from my hobby bones after a long hiatus.

Hey look, this is still going!
I got a chance to drop by the Strat last week for like 5 minutes. Looked like some good 40k action going on. Hopefully I'll make it there soon to get in a few games. What's the word on this Maplewood store?

NJ transit to maplewood NJ, (from Manhattan, take the path to newark, then get on a train) then walk a mile.

Decent size gaming area upstairs, good stock of merch and hobby supplies.

Friday nights is 40k night. They are currently doing Apoc everyfriday on one large table. There are also tables upstairs and in the back of the store for 40k use. People start in around lunchtime and are there pretty late.

Anyone want to game in either Brooklyn, at 20 Sided Store, or Manhattan, at the downtown GW location, tomorrow? I have a day off from work!

Yes the Compleat Strategist is awesome in Midtown East. Usually people play every Thursday evening but 6th Ed has really turned a lot of people away from 40k. I usually try to get saturday games arranged via their club website: http://warmongers.ziggyqubert.com/

I played at the GW Store this week with a friend and although the store is small and the atmosphere is less than comfortable, you cannot beat the tables and terrain. I would back again.

In brooklyn there seems to be a few places. Brooklyn Strategist is one - never been myself and not as nice as Compleat Strategist from what I here but apparently good space.

Also in Brooklyn is NuBrand Gaming. I am trying it out tomorrow. They have not finished painting their terrain so are holding off a grand opening but I like the location so am going for it. The pictures on their site makes it look as if it will be THE place to game. I am excited to check it out.

I will check back with my impressions tomorrow night...

Good luck 997Turbo.

Gentlemen...

You MUST visit NuBrand Gaming! The space is incredible! NuBrand makes it so you'll never want to game in a basement or garage ever again. This is a beautiful, brightly lit space, decorated in well maintained wood panels and boasts about a dozen hand made custom gaming tables. The owner is a craftsman by trade and has taken it upon himself to bring the humble gaming table to a new standard. You really have to see it for yourself to appreciate it.

Further, Nubrand has elevated the experience even more by wiring surround sound and mounting iPads for quick rules e-reference throughout the store. This gaming store is trying something that, in my experience, has never been attempted before. See for yourself. I am already looking forward to my next visit.

*I have absolutely no stake in NuBrand and my only motivation in writing this was to inform and promote the NY Metro 40K community of a positive new addition to it.

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.
