Hey everybody! As i sit here at work, eating my lunch, i got the idea to start this log of my newly growing night goblin army. I had just about finished painting my 3k points worth of Space Wolves, and decided to make an army that is more of a collection than a competitive army, and i loved the night goblin fluff, read Skarsnik, and started buying models. So from here on out ill be posting here with works in progress, and finished projects. To make this even more fun and challenging, i am only going to paint one model at a time (yes even the giant blocks of night goblin infantry when i get them). This way each goblin has the possibility of being unique, rather than carbon copies of each other, with variance in skin tones, etc. So far have enough models to give me a few weeks worth of priming, painting, and basing. So far i am almost done with 4 models, 2 squigs, a shaman and a big boss. I will hopefully post pictures later tonight. I have 11 more squigs, 5 herders, 9 snotling bases, 4 fanatics, another shaman, and another boss waiting to be worked on.

cool! i love night goblins! Im excited to see this grow One thing: your pics as you know are sideways. Im going to assume you re taking this photos with an i phone. and its uploading sideways. If this is the case, just take a "screenshot" of the photo you took, and its code will be rightside up. then upload the screenshot of the pic. for our sake, no one will know the difference and your photos will load right way up

Here's the fully finished shaman, i added a few more highlights and details to him. I still am trying to work out the best way to upload pictures. As soon as i get that down there will be a flood of painted models and wip!

I have gotten up to about 4-5k of my NG's built so far, but have hardly any painted! Too many responsibilities to play with my toys! wah!

do you plan on sculpting any squig-creatures? I have a squig-wyvern and arack-spider count as in the works in gallery you may find interesting!

I didn't plan on sculpting anything because frankly I'm not that creative. I may ask my girlfriend to make some, along with a mushroom giant to fit the theme! Those will be the last projects for this blog probably, but keep an eye out, for they may pop up when i get bored lol.

very cool stuff! I was really hesitant to try sculpting myself. Honestly squigs are a great place to start as they are quite easy!

so if you want to get your feet wet with something, not much better place to start!!!

Nice base on the Squig, cocktail sticks? Have you looked at the Mantic range some of their models might provide some more anarchy to the force. Something Gbbos can never have enough of.

Thanks! And nope not cocktail sticks, I was lazy and bought the GW Under Empire basing kit. Also I looked into the Mantic models and am definitely contemplating getting them!! Thanks for the insight!

I am probably going to regret staying up so late painting, but I got carried away. I have work in 6 hours so I need some sleep, so ill make this post quick:

I like the crystal and stalagmite (?Did I get the right one?) bases, may have to steal that for my own night goblin army. Painting is very nice as well, really want to get some squigs of my own now!

Thanks Big Mek! Yeah squigs rock, and the crystals and stalagmites are all part of the under empire basing kit from GW. The kit also has a few other fun resin bits like mushrooms, and a dragon skull and treasure chest. Great kit, but very expensive. For the grey cave base i used GW astrogranite, and it works great!!

Night gobbos ans squigs are always pretty entertaining, and they look very good painted too. I like it (or should I say, "dig" it?).

The entertainment factor is the main reason for making this army! Sorry, no pictures today, almost done with a fanatic, but I need a wash to dry on his base before I can finish it with a drybrush. I should have him done tomorrow at some point.

In other news, today I placed an order on Titan Forge, and on Mantic for some models to add to the uniqueness of my growing army!

Looking good read Skarsnik last week and considering starting a goblin army myself. Can't wait to see the snotlings painted up.

Had a small problem with one of the fanatics when I was basing it.. (the chain fatigued and snapped so I had to fix it... with glob of glue) so while it was drying I started a squig and almost finished a second fanny. They just need some finishing touches to complete. Hopefully there will be no breakage this time.

Having 120ish squigs myself all but a dozen or so being in various stages of painting.. (i usually do 10 similiar at a time, so have like 10 blue/with teeth started... 10 red with highlights done and teeth done but needing eyes and bases etc... really hodepodge looking).. I have found a white undercoat to be a huge time saver. Last time I was painting my squigs I used a white spray primer (though lately been using brush on primer as have tons of issues with spray primer where I live)... Mainly I found that I got REALLY bored of painting red squigs after doing skin on #30 ya know? So I started priming some blue with army painter.. which turned out alright after 3 or 4 attempts (prob operator error).. took a few baths in paint stripper which slowed things down...

so eventually "wised up" I guess and started priming white, as then I could make a glaze medium+colored wash+color hybrid glaze-bastard-thing (i'm no pro pardon me) and then just paint all the skin on the model and then its pretty much ready for a wash/highlight and will be very vibrant... the upside really besides vibrancy would be that you could have a bunch of "glazes" mixed up in different pools on pallette, and have 30-40 squigs white and ready and then do 5 pink, 5 yellow, 5 blue, 5 dark blue etc.. with all the different glazes you have concocted.. (i primed alot of my squigs black before seeing peoples method of painting squigs and were finding mine to not be as bright as theirs and merely thought you may want to investigate the methodology as an alternative before you prime a bunch black like I did and want to kick yourself.)

You seem to brush-prime with base skin tone though so, this would be more of a for future reference really! The hybrid glaze things get alot better when you pre high light the model with a gray scale before doing it... element games has a tutorial I can dig up a link on if you can't find it/are interested. Another tutorial I have to recommend is by cb_rex on da warpath forums. Has a pictorial on how he does orange squig skin on a hopper. It was very enlightening to me and helpful on my squig cult's growth.

I don't know why but i love darker looking squigs of the reds/oranges/and yellows. If you can dig up the link to the orange hopper tutorial ill def check it out! i feel bad for you and your sheer amount of squigs haha. I only have 13(for now) and 4 are either done or almost done. I appreciate the advice!

Haha don't feel bad! I'll get em all painted some day. I haven't ever got to field them all yet, still waiting on the chance!.. when I do it will be a sight to behold i hope lol

titan forge is a very cool company. I have a night goblin themed undead army in the works. Have a big unit of zomblins, some spider riders painted like skeletons (black knights), and some spider riders painted up like ghosts (hexwraiths).. I suppose I actually have a corpse cart converted too being pulled by zomblins with a dwarf in the back, having his hair set on fire by a snickering goblin. I actually picked up the necronmancer on skele-squig too! very very cool model... hell I guess i have a couple packs of their noisy ghosts toting scythes i built as well... man i need to finish that army... the jawbats while being super coo, were just too expensive for me.

I do wish that they would maybe make a larger pack at a lower price, would prolly buy a pack then!

I added pink/yellow/blue squigs to my already existing red/oj horde and now get a lot of comments about rainbow brigade and what not hehehe.

i assume you have gotten your squigs direct from GW, thats what I had done in the beginging as well. I quickly realized that there is occasionally a "great" buy for squigs on ebay so I'll reiterate, keep your eyes open and do a squig search a couple times a day. I got mine on "buy it now" in big lots and the listings were only up for about an hour. Really helped keep costs down/allowed me to get more squigs than i really need lol...Hope to see more progress soon! I'm telling you buy a $8 brick of yellow miliput and some styrofoam balls, you'll be sculpting squigs in no time!!!
