So what do they have? Are they the same? Is it a cross/crux terminatus for Dark Angels Company Veterans, and a laural for command squad? Do the Company Vets keep the shoulder markings from the squad they came from? I want to make the markings on my army fluff accurate so please don't say "they're your models, do what you want".
Thanks in advance.

Earning the crux terminatus means entry to the inner circle and thus entry into the deathwing. And that means terminator armour with all the heraldry that entails. It is therefore important to note that the company veterans who are NOT part of the inner circle EVEN when they are in company command squads don't have the right to bear the crux terminatus.

Exceptions do exist for Company masters who can still don their normal power armour but they display their own personal heraldry instead of a crux terminatus. Only actual TDA seems to have a Crux in the dark angels artwork and fluff as far as the codex goes.

An excerpt from the Company Veterans for you:
"Although they are honoured and held in high esteem, it is not always easy for outsiders to pick out the Chapter's honoured Veterans, for it is the nature of the Dark Angels to remain forever stoic and unembellished. Taking after the Company Masters, whom they revere as spititual leaders as well as great tacticians, these Veterans renounce the garish and conspicuous - not for them the gold-encrusted armour of an honour guard or some ostentatious plume to denote to all onlookers their exalted station. Instead, only the keenest eye can perhaps discern a ceremonial robe or catch the odd gleam from some antiquated and honoured wargear gifted to them for their acts of bravery"

Company Veterans Form the FIRST squad of their company. so usually they have the 1st tactical squad marking on their right shoulderpad where as the left has the normal Winged sword. Important to note is that due to the robes you will not be able to paint company markings on the knee pads. Veterans can also replace the Right shoulderpad with the studded "Old style" shoulderpad altogether,

The command Squad appears to paint the rims of their shoulderpads bone white in ther artwork that goes with their entry and to wear the winged sword on the left. I believe they display the heraldry of the character they accompany on the right shoulderpad. The apothecary has a white helmet and white shoulderpad with red rim on the right instead of completely white armour the rest of the armour is green as normal with the winged sword on the left . and the champion has a golden cover over his old squad marking as a bit of symbolism.

Thanks! I didn't know that veterans were the 1st squad in the company (I thought they were separate from the numbered ones). That helps a-lot. I have the 3rd ed codex and it says the standard bearer has a laurel on his right pad (this is confirmed by the new model released this year). And as the apothecary has the usual and the champion has those metal bits over the top, that just leaves 2 more guys. I'm not too keen on doing the leaders personal heraldry on them, since that would limit me to only 1 warlord choice (besides the fact that it would be ridiculously hard). Where did you learn this? Perhaps I'll just cheat and give them the pads with the studs and cloth over them.

Command Squads are hand picked from veteran squads for each mission. They change the shoulderpad for that mission to signify they are serving for that particular company master. Heres what the current codex says on the matter:

"The highest-ranking Dark Angels are often accompanied by a Command Squad - a hand-picked unit of the five most able Company Veterans. The Codex Astartes sanctions the formation of these units largely as bodyguards for key Masters of the Chapter. "

As they form a new unit they would pick a new squad marking. As Command Squads fall outside the normal structure of the company. This is picked based on their commanders preference. It could be as simple as the Company marking, But they do usually match his own shoulderpad. A good solution is to not glue this shoulderpad and either magnetize it, or just bluetac it into place so its changeable. However the Laurel for the entire unit is entirely acceptable to. Looking at the artwork that goes with them it looks like thats whats in the new codex for them too. Unfortunatly i dont see a how to paint section for the normal guys in the command squad just normal veterans and the special characters (Apoithecary standard bearer and champion ) in the new book. So they dont elaborate on the shoulderpads for the command squad any longer.

CCS wouldn't have Cruxs. Marines only get Cruxs when they reach the 1st company, and the DA 1st company only wear TDA.

You could give them Cruxes and say the marines are Deathwing choosing to wear PA though.

Deathwing don't get to choose, they only fight wearing TDA.

I found it! It is definitely a laurel for command squads!
