First off, this is still very much in the "concept" stage. I don't even have the materials yet, I just want to know what people think of the idea.

Well, Warhounds don't have hands. They just have guns for arms. Unless you meant Reaver or Warlord.

Aside from that, looks like a decent start.

A wrecked warhound would be similar to a crashed attack helicopter in my mind.
its legs splayed out behind it (tail rotor), its guns torn off or crushed underneath it (pylons, or outboard weapons) and its cockpit/head buried into the dirt with cracked or smashed windows.

the few ways a warhound can "keel over" are side ways, forwards or backwards. backwards and turtled on its back looks plain silly, leaving sides or front. falling front ways is detailed above.

the leg up in the air concept is kind of comical in my opinion. like one rolled on its back and died with little X's in its "eyes".

Yeah, take a look at the center of gravity in relation to the legs:



Once you add the inertia of it moving forwards there's no way it's going to fall on its back with the guns sticking up in the air. And it's very obviously like a human in that it's an unstable body shape that is only able to stay upright by constant fine adjustments of its legs. So if it's destroyed you'd expect the legs to collapse and the upper body to smash face-first into the ground. Imagine a person who trips while running. So something like this, but with impact damage and the legs sprawled out behind/underneath it:

I think it's perfectly reasonable for a Titan to have been pummled with enough artillery fire that it's been knocked back. I don't know why you're being given a hard time about it.

It might be worth mocking up different ways that the Titan could have been downed, what it would have been hit with etc. then choosing you preferred "death". Think about weak points and where most enemies are going to aim for to take it down? (Probably legs, like that AT-ATs!? In which case a face plant is likely).

That might help you with the painting aswell.

The idea has me thinking about the idea of a bunch of Guardsmen posing on the downed Titan now, like a hunting/fishing picture of their big catch!

However you do it, it's an interesting concept with a few ways you could play it. I'll be interested to see how you go.

Because it looks silly. Falling straight back like that, with the arms and legs lined up neatly, just isn't going to happen with a Warhound. It makes it look like there wasn't much thought involved in setting it up and ruins an idea with a lot of potential.

I apreciate the critisism.The idea is that the Titan was pelted in the "face" by artillery, killing the pilots and causing it to stumble backwards, and then it was pretty much smashed in the face by a heldrake, knocking it backwards, where it has laid for over 1100 years.
Also on the actual model the "knee" sticking from the ground is the upper joint in the leg.

Maybe look at sideways, with an arm, a shoulder, a leg and the head out of the ground. It's a lot more plausible than strait on it's back but you could still twist it a little to get something similar to your original idea.

Or put the leg sideways and the rest facing up. It could have been looking at whatever knocked it on it's side.

Upon further study, i realise that my original idea was stupid, silly even. Now the reason I'm doing this(should of put this at the start of the thread) is as part of a champaign Thingy me and a buddy are doing. So the "story" is that after 1100 years of being inopperable, the "lucio immortalis" , which has been left as a memorial to all of the marines who died loyally while defending the planet (unnamed), the forsaken knights (my sm chapter) must awaken this mighty war machine.
So I'm looking for a pose that would mean it would be in some parts visible but mostly it will be buried under ground (untill I get round to making a whole one )
Any thaughts?

i'd reckon thered be a bigass hole in it before something hit it hard enough to knock it backwards. For two reasons, 1) like Peregrine said its center of gravity and moving forward would prevent it and 2) its leaning forward by default. Ever seen a human feint? They fall forward, despite having feet that should prevent it since theyre sticking out in that direction.

Actually i wouldnt mind making a wrecked titan either, but i would make it look like it did a faceplant and slid a little (trail damage, i.e. area terrain behind it)

What abut a pose as someone said earlier as if its tripped over? However you could leave one leg standing fully upright - as if a heavy weapon hit blew its hip joint out, causing to fall face first into the ground.
That would mean you could have the head half buried, maybe an arm too as it faceplants but have one leg left standing and the other half buried too?

That is the harder part lol. Theres a thread of people scratchbuilding a titan actually out of plasticard and wooden balls and metal pegs, you might be able to talk to them.
