So here's the start of some buildings I will be... Building?

Obviously this is the barebones stage, it needs lots of detailing. I'm not sure whether to add in extreme detail, rooms, tables, wood lapping in some rooms or just to keep them as post apoc empty areas with rubble piles?

What do you guys think?

Really cool!
More detail the better, its the little touches that usually take terrain from being good to "wow".
Go nuts without overcrowding imo.

Looks awesome. I'm wondering why the inside railing for the stairs is in perfect shape though.

I think extra detail on scenery does put it over the top into awesome, as said, however...

Depending on your time and patience resources, and whether or not you have a finished army... I would rather have my army done with some playable terrain, than have sprue soldiers marching over amazing battlefields. If you can do both, go for it. I, personally, would let the terrain suffer being coarse before I would my army.

Looking pretty good though, a little height really helps make things more dynamic

Cheers for the comments!

Grim dork, the stairs aren't damaged yet because I had just glued some plasticard to the outside of the foam core which hasn't set yet... I promise it will be damaged :-)
Terrain is a massive part of the game for me, I have a painted ravenguard army and have had flesh tearers before that. I'm stupid enough to build a whole new board and terrain set to match my armies bases... I currently have a fully finished 6x4 with lots of GW buildings painted, but they don't look right. This is a step to try and make a game using little resin men look real... Sad I know!

Hopefully you can see which direction I will be taking all these buildings, I see this a some form of state building and this room being used for meetings about some boring mundane imperial issue...

Whoa, an elevated platform that actually has space up there?

IM IN LOVE!

no seriously i hate most of the level-terrain i see because theres barely enough room for a single unit so theyre either forced to bunch up or get shot out since its next to impossible to charge up there.

Looks great!

For rebar, you can use wire, but mostly commonly spure is just carved up a bit, and bent a little (you can heat it somewhat to make it easier).

A few things from a seasoned terrain maker...

* your design is really cool.
* make sure not to make the mid levels too deep - people have to get hands in there - so far so good!
* if you plan on spray painting, make sure to coat the exposed foam edges with either gesso, or acrylic paint, as the spray paint will melt foam.
* if you add detail, put the bigger stuff on walls, in corners, etc. you need relativity level floors for models to stand on.
* put larger detail pieces in more recessed areas, so they are less likely to get knocked off in use. For example, on the outside, put more indention or flush details on the outer walls, and you can put larger attached details to the recessed window cavities.
* while scale stairs LOOK cool, they are not useful for gaming - models don'g fit on stiars that have less than .75" of depth. So you need to either make stairs that look "off" (i.e. too big") or add landings for minis to stand on.

So far your stuff looks great!

The holy trinity of terrain is;
* looks good
* game friendly (i.e. you can use it in a game easily)
* durable

An added bonus is stuff that is portable, or easily storable.

Wow, wonder how it is going to look painted!

You should print some of those imperial propaganda posters and stick them inside (or outside)

Cheers guys! Rebar is made from rabbit hutch mesh cut up and stuck in...

The stairs on this do prove a problem if the unit doesn't have enough movement to reach the top... We blue tack a model in position to show where they are lol

Word of advice on the rebar... You thought GW terrain was spiky and dangerous... Watch out while leaning down for true line of sight! Lol
