Long time luker, first time poster... I am not one for arguments so feel free to bash... I just probably won't respond.
I liked the idea of the centurions from the beginning. For years I have been saying, "Why can't I strap more serious weaponry on a terminator suit... like a lascannon, etc." I agree with many others saying that they had wished that the centurions would have been somehow terminator based. I am full agreement with this, but I still like the the idea of an shooty heavy weapons exo-skeleton that a marine in power armour can step into.
That said, I did not like the VERY bulky look of the pictures I had seen on the interwebs. Luckily, the kit has you build the entire marine, exoskeleton, and extra armour so you can leave out parts you don't like. So, I built the below squad of centurions leaving off the leg armour, armoured skirt, shoulder pauldrons and by removing a little plate of armour on the top of the chest. I think the result is a much more attractive model with a more dynamic feel. I also there is still enough armour to justify the 2+ save.

It`s good to see that you are given some options when assembling them.
I think if you could add smaller panels to the shoulders and the bare knee joints they`d look fantastic.

Okay, now I will have to go get pictures of what I did with mine (later).
First, please add the leg armor, the guys look cold and will catch their death from uncovered gunfire.
I cut the back "buttflap" plate off and flipped the frame/actuator bar upside-down so the cut side is facing the upper body.
Taking the crotch guarding (looks just the like the kendo belt!) I folded back the middle crotch guard off the side plates.
Clean up the side plates where the break was, align to upper thigh armor and glue on.
They look like layered 2+ armor AND they are more "leggy" so it looks like they can walk rather than shuffle (plus from the back you see more of the way the marine fits in)
Honestly, just adding the leg armor only it looks even better...
<edit> I did add the shoulder pads but switched shoulders since EVERY guy except terminators have the BT cross on the left shoulder (they are not elite!).

That looks a lot better than with the armor. This gives me high hopes some good conversions may come from the kit..
However it still has the ridiculousness of powered armor marines inside powered armor. Not as bad as the baby-carrier, but still close enough.... to make me queasy.
I would probably start by snipping off the toes, then adding machinery or connecting the legs to the feet in such a way that it just looks like a big suit of armor with a space marine head.
With a more extensive conversion, it could be a really cool true-scale terminator.

Talizvar, you'll have to post pics, because as of now I am convinced from these pics that it looks better with no leg armor
You asked I post:
(Used spoiler since I put pictures on extra huge <edit> (cool, re-sized better after I posted) , blemishes and all) This is with no extra detailing, only initial assembly, they will be BT so I switched shoulder pads.
I put in magnets for the guns.
Spoiler:
I was surprised, I like how they look.

I like yours, Talizvar, but I still think I like the barebones version from the OP best . Of course, I have my own alternate models I'm planning to use so I won't be going for either one but it's inspiring to see people making this kit work. Thanks for posting the pics!

Those look sharp, I'm in the minority in that I think centurions look really cool, but the way the legs are showing is really neat on yours, I love all the detail that is underneath those flat armor plates! Talizvar yours look great, but to me yours look pretty much the same as the standard ones.
The only thing I think that would further improve them is if you could get normal shaped space marine pauldrons on these guys. I'm really not a fan of the shape of the pauldrons over anything else.
Also, anyone have any thoughts how easy it will be to magnetize the weapons?
thanks!

Thanks for the post, it's great to see them looking a bit less over the top.
EDIT: ever think about how this underarmored version might look with a beakie head?

Wow. The Centurions of the OP has a wonderfully Ripley-esque feeling to them. Love at first sight!
@Talizvar. Those look really good. Leaving off the crotch guard improves the look immensely IMO. Could you be persuaded to snap some picture of the rear of the models?

"He died because he had no honor. He had no honor and the Emperor was watching."
The ankles look a little over exposed without the leg guards attached. I wouldn't cut the side toes as this makes the foot look like a giant slipper. I'm going to have to sculpt some new feet for mine. I also removed the cabling as I really didn't like that and fitted smaller shoulder pauldrons as the ones that come with the set are too big for me.
This look is particularly suitable to make Techmarine and Obliterator conversions, I reckon, as an easy way to avoid the blatant centurion origin. Hmm, maybe as a looted cybork body for Ork nobs too...
These are great .
These kits are much more appealing now knowing that they can be separated into so many pieces.
Would love to see a Centurion Conversion thread going
Mine are very much a work in progress (excuse the state of the model, stuff is tacked on at moment while I test things), still not found quite what I'm looking for. Latest effort below, think it looks better but doesn't address the slipper feet nor does it address the gaping back that you get even with the normal build and its fully armoured front. That gaping back is just pain stupid.

these pictures have actually given me hope for the models. before this thread I HATED the centurions, thought they were the dumbest looking models I have seen in a long time.
They really do look lots better without all the uberplate everywhere. My only remaining question, though, is where do the Marine's arms go? I mean I know Marines get pretty comprehensively re-aligned when they get stuck in Terminator armour, but the Centurion suits seem to have a whole new level of chiropractic interference going on...
Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!
Their illustration in the codex is what in my opinion the centurions should have looked like. Slightly shorter arms and noticeably longer legs ,gw kinda shot themselves in the foot with the heroic scale this time.. Finding a way to true scale the model I think would give us centurions that we can look at and say "hey, that actually looks pretty bad " but that's my two cent.

The model designer in the WD said he had an answer for this: their arms folded in front of them inside the chest plate.
Little tight I would think but, that is his answer.

I see what you mean, I think I would like it too: The demon prince model based off a marine has about the right sized pauldrons for these guys but it would be hard to show these able to turn with the arm without being very limiting for arm movement.

I thought removing that center plate made the legs look longer and more likely to be able to walk normally.
Will add pics of back later tonight.
I do like being able to see some of the inner workings of the marine fitting in at the back.
Between the "bracing", the back bar and those cylinders coming out of the feet he still looks well enough covered even after removing the "butt plate".

Goodness man, you are a fearless converter. Do me a favor and glue the two missile launchers together as a "six pack" and attach them to a stand on the right shoulder and add a search light on the left:

Man, I get distracted.
I have seen your other work, the conversions are great, borrowing from the "Contemptor" a bit looks like the way to go according to some feedback posted.
Good Luck!

When I really don't like the model I'm happy to get choppy with it as if I can't make it acceptable to me I won't be using it at all and I hate wasting money like that.
Yup, baby Contemptor is what I'm going for. I tried the missile pack on the pauldron already, doesn't really work as the marine can't see anything on the side you put it on, does fit nice though. Really it needs to be mounted above the head so it doesn't block the marine's line of sight however the model is too small for that missile launcher to be mounted like that and ends up looking a bit daft.
I need to knock together a smaller launcher, something like the ones of a LS Tempest might work and I have a few of those spare. A friend did knock together a shoulder mount for the launchers using the ammo hopper of the heavy bolter that looks quite good, easier to fit on the model if you keep the width of the chest so that is another option.
I've sorted out the back of the legs using the small plates from the shoulder cable section, now the feet look ok to me with thicker legs.

Hmm.. not convinced. Surely the marine's chest plate is behind the additional Centurion plate...
I can just about see them fitting in the shoulder assembly, but only if they have all their normal shoulder and arm armour removed. (and possibly their hands as well, just above the wrist...)
Also regarding the launcher on the shoulder, why would the marine need to "see" over that shoulder? They have autosenses for a reason simply have the HUD fade out the launcher to see whats behind.
