Got some firewarriors.

Contemplated 3 different schemes.

Desert, Urban, or Ice.

Urban won out. This is my first tau painted. Took about 5 hours. Will be allies with Eldar or White Scars eventually. Will share same basing theme.

Let me know what you all think. If it looks like crap I might try another theme.

Cheers and thanks for looking.

Great work.

For some inexplicable reason, the upward angle of his LOS in profile reminds me of Hulk Hogan doing a bow and arrow pose.

I guess tau are Hulkamaniacs for the "Greater Good".

Made my morning though Jim thanks.

Thanks for the compliments. Wanted them to look similar to the urban bases but not blend in so much that the got lost.

Luca I thought about adding a band or two more of the orange but didnt want to over do it. On a Riptide or Bside I will add a bit more color I promise lol.

Cheers and thanks! More to come soon.

I like it, he's just spartan enough to blend in without being 'bland'. Great! I like the orange as well.

If you want inspiration on Tau heads, check on Advanced Tau Tactica. I'm pretty sure they have a few articles about alternative Tau heads there as well!

Good job, I like the Tau's helmetless head.

Thank you everyone!

There is a guy on the net while I was surfing one day for inspiration who used spots on his Kroot. I thought it might look good on a Q-ball tau.

I looked for "spots tau head" on google and saw a few examples of it.

The bases are super quick and easy! They even promote recycling. The wall on the Q-ball was cut from a yogurt container.

I work with a paving crew quite often and thought the road stripes and asphalt look would be neat to try.

There are many examples of it on the net. I saw some resin cast ones but at the prices I could not justify getting any.

This was as well every base will be unique. When I get to some of the larger models I hope to find some bits from some of the buildings and such to add to them. Pipes and beams and stuff. If anyone has the 411 on a good cheap site that sells and urban rubble set or anything similar I would totally get your next beer (or tea, coffee, carbonated beverage of choice)

I really enjoyed this model.

I generally do not like Tau. I think their models are awkward looking and they generally do not fit in with my overall visual understanding of 40k.

You, however, have managed make them feel more at home with your poses and your paint scheme. I am not sure why people favor the bright, garish colors for the Tau but you've done them all better by using a selection of colors that compliment the basing and provide a gritty, war-torn feel to the model.

Kudos!

Looks good! What's the brown on the base though? Are they trailing mud in their foot steps?

Its yellow. Ill add an overhead shot to show it better. The one the newest guy is on has bits of blasted roadway on it with the road markings fragmented all over. I had to do some quick repair work on the base and repaint it. My 2 year old thought it would be fun to throw the base across the floor and a large chunk broke off.

That's the beginnings of a great-looking Tau army you have there. As most have said, I really like the colour scheme you've chosen and the mottled effect on the chrome domed one's really well done.

Nice work on the lenses, too.

Some pictures to help show the base. Took a few group shots too.

I have a devilfish. I was going to paint it with the pathfinders. Im working 14 hr days at the moment so when I get home I usually paint half a firewarrior. I got all of these warriors from a trade. They needed stripping and repairs. That took a long time.

I will do the devilfish after the FW squad is done. Was thinking urban digi cam. Think that is doable? Was thinking it could lool neat if done right.

Cheers!

Fireblade done. Had some trouble figuring out a color scheme for his many accessories. Spent a long time on him. I really hope it shows. If anyone has advice on bringing my painting to the next level I would dig it.

All looking very good Fatboy, really like the grey tone you have used for your urban lads.

Loving the scalp freckles, I had the same notion about it too - way too much bare skin for nothing to be detailing it

Your basing is very cool, and the painted hooves definitely works in contrast to the colour scheme - very cool.

Thanks for posting me a link to your work log!

Awesome! When I was surfing the web for tau inspiration I kept coming back to your blog. Your head spots are what influenced me to do head spots. To much real estate on those domes to leave vacant /agree

I feel honored to receive compliments from you since I had drawn on your tau expertise to guide my choices. I know I am nowhere near your skill level but hopefully with enough patience and practice I can someday come close.

I was thinking about duplicating your dark urban scheme for my pathfinders. The guide is phenomenal

Thanks again for looking Seb, it really means a lot!

Very very cool. What do you use for your basing? I have a similar theme going for my Tau as well but your basing method is far superior to what i'm attempting.
