Hey guys... I've always loved and on several occasions have owned dark angels armies.. I bought dark vengeance and want to make my own chapter based on the dark angels. I haven't thought of a name or much background yet.. But what I have decided on was the colors. The insignia will be the dark angels logo (don't feel like trimming down the embossed stuff, pure laziness I know but hey... The crimson fists use the same emblem as the imp fists) so I'm looking for help with their name and critique and questions on their colors.

The next step will be to start painting them and putting pics up on here as they go

I like that scheme.
Dont see much orange on marines very often.

My own Dark Angels are Purple power armour, with yellow trim, and a bone white DA logo; same as you Id rather leave it there than smooth it out, plus you get to use all the various DA bits that have been produced.

The colour of mine is a bit similar to Hawk Lords, and could be confused easily tbh, untill you notice the black ravenwing and beige deathwing, and the robes etc... its still noticably DA when looked at as a whole.

For a name... I think I'm going with 'The Order' after the order of knights on Caliban in the fluff.

I collected these guys up for nostalgia mostly tbh, I used to have a sizable force of DA, could field 2k points of just Ravenwing back in 2000
Back when pure Ravenwing armies were new, the abilty to field them was put in a WD issue, 3rd or 4th edition I think.
When we had a crossfire rule oh boy was that rule a bit broken when used right hehe, too many times I had to get rules lawyer on people to explain that their unit is indeed totally wiped out with no saves allowed;
It used to be possible to plonk a Ravenwing Librarian biker infront of an enemy unit, with a landspeeder in position to get the crossfire as the libby forced LD on 3d6 added together or fall back, through the crossfire of the speeder and poof, its gone lol. Kinda miss that, but its probably for the best that its gone cus it was a bit nasty.

Thanks Hairy!!! I appreciate the input! If I'm not mistaken I have seen your DA here on dakka? It's actually a silly story how I decided on those colors. The wife and I were shopping for new sheets for the bed and she called me over to Look at some grey sheets with orange details on the pillows and duvet cover! I was instantly struck by the color combo! It is suitably dark for an Unforgiven chapter and the orange looks great with it!

Still plodding along on those Deathwing figures hehe. Might take a while.
Once theyre all done, I think I'l probably strip the Ravenwing (almost 3 full Ravenwing Squadrons, a Dark Talon and a speeder vengeance plus a biker command squad) and do those again too! and then maybe even the greenwing (about 50 marines, a drop pod, a predator, and some characters) after that!

Other than an imperial fist army I painted a long time ago, I did a death wing army for commission a couple years back, biggest pain to paint lol

Amazing that just a little discussion on the army can get me excited to paint them! You may have helped create a monster good sir!

Ditto hehe, ive got a few hours before I have to be in work, Time to get crackin on those Deathwing.

Totally know what you mean that they take forever, I had maybe half of them painted up,with the command and knights still to do, but was brushing layer after layer of off white, it was taking forever to do one figure. So I decided to strip them all and airbrush the white quick style. I think its much better this way as my paint is about 10 layers thinner than it was before They were border line too thickly painted.

Looking forward to doing the Ravenwing too tbh, since I did them I've taken to priming grey over black, and think I can get a much better shade and highlight on the black surfaces that way. also Have a spare Dark Vengeance Librarian that might be getting some wheels

The initial colors on these guys.. Could be cleaner but I think after I get them painted I'm going
To dirty them up anyway.. Plus I do this all day for
Commission so I feel the need to be lazy on my own stuff

Looking good, Might be the camera's flash or white balance, but theyre certainly a lot more blue-grey than I imagined. The orange is nice and warm, like it.

Lol yeah it was late last night, I didn't use a flash it's actually the led flash on
The wife's phone being used as a 'studio' light.
Better pics are on the way..my wife's a pro photographer.. But it can be a pain to get her to take pics of My minis for me

Thanks Bobaram! I look forward to getting these guys done then the rest of the DV Angels completed. Some converting to finish up on my DW from the box. I decided I want a cyclone in the squad Instead of an assault cannon. I think I am going to use a sentinal missle launcher for that. More to come soon! Wife Just got a new lens for her camera (and she says my stuff is expensive!!!) so I just might be able to bribe her into better pics. In an effort to remain lazy on these guys, and because furture squads will not likely have embossed shoulders, I think I am going to change the emblem to white. That way I can just use the transfers from the box sets to do the add ons as well

I really should be giving my orks the lovinz!!! But They are a much fasta paint job. Just got to find the right Dip for da Boyz... Not sure if I want a brown or black

UPDATE!!!
I haven't decided how to base these guys yet. Nor have I figured out a chapter name. All I really have to do is correct the sergeants eyes and decide which company and squad markings to give .

I really like the colour scheme you have gone for. At our local games club, we each made our own chapters. My own was fashioned after the Dark Angels, and I had a similar colour scheme in mind. An art student friend of mine drew a chapter sigil for me (with the help of some white chocolate as a bribe). I have intentions migrating the chapter from pen and paper rpg to an army collection at some point, however here is the chapter badge for Astartes Legion: Shadow Wardens

That's a pretty awesome sigil!!! Thank the emperor for chocolate bribery!!!
I'm really happy with the Colors. I need to post some
Updated pics with the basing completed but I've still got a few things to add to the bases.
