Hello venerable and wise Dakkaites. My son's flying hive tyrant is in a poor state. It has fallen apart, been dropped and come loose again so many times that each joint is a mess of plastic cement. It has been both super glued and plastic glued before. I want to reconstitute it and I'm not sure the best approach. I do have a 0.8mm drill bit and some 0.8mm copper wire and I had been thinking about pinning it... But it's a hollow plastic model and I'm not sure that would work. I'm sure someone on here must have done something like this before.

I'd suggest stripping it to the bare plastic, then using the sharp edge of a hobby knife to scrape away as much of the various glues as possible until you have plastic on plastic again.

Then I would plastic glue (which should create a weld that shouldn't break apart) the parts together, and then as Bobaram said, greenstuff any gaps to make a smooth transition.

You could pin it by by driving pins into the thick plastic parts that are currently exposed in your pic, but that should really be unnecessary for a plastic model. But if you go that route, I'd still clean up the glue first. Having the glue will create weaker bonds on any re-gluing.

I would also drill and pin together just in a couple of spots then use the plastic glue and putty.
For pinning i would put one at the top of the back and one at the bottom ,then one on the front chest.

As said before. Cut/file down the sides so you have bare plastic again and use plastic glue to glue it. It will bond stronger than superglue (actually melts the pieces together slightly) and then fill any unsightly spots with green stuff.

Don't bother pinning the plastic model it won't be any stronger than the plastic glue.

Okay. Taking the tips on. Sandpaper and plastic glue. It's been left to set fully. Gulp.

Im going to ask the same question
Have found that GW brand plastic glue doesnt actually work. It doesnt melt the surfaces together like plastic glue ought to.
Instead drys with a crystalline effect that is annoying and fiddly to clean up nicely :(
Countless models I had were assembled with it and all fell apart untill I changed to another brand (pretty much any other brand) of poly cement.
Having the crystalline plastic glue in there when you applied the superglue would result in the superglue bond being as weak as this (not)plastic glue too.

You could fill up the insider with a blob of greenstuf (or other epoxy putty) to pin into.

I've got the Army Painter stuff. Think the joy put it together originally with the GW muck though... Hopefully it stays together this time.
