So I just picked up a brand new bane blade kit for my birthday and I'm trying to decide what to paint it.
I currently have space marines modeled as DA painted a light grey similar to dawnstone with hoeth blue details.

Do I paint it to match my army or paint it more Ig style? What seems cooler or makes more sense.

Any suggestions welcome!

Technically speaking Baneblades are part of the Imperial Guard and not Space Marine Chapters. However, there's no reason you can't paint it DA, and say it was given as a gift due to the DA single handedly ddoing such and such magnificent victory on such Forge World that the Mechanicus gave the Chapter it. Or maybe it was left over from the Heresy and only brought out at Chapter scale engagements.

Personally, I'm a big fan of a single unified paint scheme in your army. I find it a little jarring when an army has three or four different schemes going on. If you're planning on playing your Baneblade with the rest of your DA, I would absolutely paint it in the same colors as the rest of your army. If you plan on playing it with a separate IG contingent, paint it in those colors.

And don't forget to post pictures

Thank you for the suggestions dakka.

Ideally I would like my own imperial tank contingent but who knows when that will happen.
It is my answer to my friends owning between 2 and 6 super heavies each and I need something to hold them off but my fluff for my successor chapter is they are from an ice planet so I'm thinking Snow camo for my most likely non existent future Imperial Defense Auxilia.

I will try to get pictures posted as soon as I can.

I would strongly suggest painting it to match your current army, but to give it some flair that helps make it a focal point of the overall force.

Insignia, battle damage, weathering and so on can all contribute nicely to such a project. Best of luck!

Paint it what ever color you want. Most superheavies are also works of art in and of themselves. Just make it awesome and you will be great. A better idea if you want a subtle method of tying it in to your marines have it be matching a camo pattern that would fit in which whatever terrain your marines are based on. Then just say they are escorting it on an important mission when ever you play it.

Work so far. I don't have an air brush so I used masking tape and spray paint.
