Okay so I had the idea of Getting spiders from the Goblin spider riders and having my guard use them as rough riders.

Looking at the model and my lack of leg pieces I decided to just greenstufff the legs of the people sitting on it. Looking at it now though. I noticed that the cadian torso fits nicely over the smooth spot up top.

I got to thinking about my converted Mogul Kamir and making him 1/2 spider, like a drider/arachnea type person- fluff wise I was going to say he lost his lower body and his faithful mount in battle. It owuld even fit in with his rules, after the first round of combat he wouldn't be able to concentrate enough to use his extra limbs (aka the extra d3 attacks from cyber steed.)

But then I got to wondering if I shouldn't make my entire rough rider company driders (mecha-driders?)

For context with my imperial guard army...
Fluff: People who believe in the Dark Angels- the "Fallen Angels" [another of my armies CSM] and believe that the normal DA are the real traitors. These are a group of people either lost to the warp, survived the Grey Knights purging their companies after a demonic battle, assigned to them after a Inquisitor got convinced of the truth, etc... some might consider them traitor guard using the imperial guard rules but I consider them to be true loyalists.

Model wise I'm kit bashing using Cadian shock troop, Wood Elves glade guard, the old Dark Elves Warrior bits, I'm going to say some empire musket people bodies... and 30 spiders.

So! Advice please!

Either for green-stufing legs for Spider Riders

Or if I should go the Drider route? I mean I can always fluff an explanation (surgery, abhuman, stable mutation?)

Advice? Opinions? Help please!

Ha ha, that idea is hilarifying!

Personally I would stick with riding them if possible, over making them driders, but good luck either way. I love the idea of rough riders but I hate the models so this would be cool to play against!

I say go dryders!

I was actually planning this exact kind of model for my traitor guard. I'm going to a mix of riders and dryders. But then, I have a much easier time make fluff to go with it. XD

I think riders would be better for an army that shoots mutants on sight. My thoughts.

If you just attach the torso to the spider I think you'll have a hell of a time fitting the arms in there. The legs go quite high up the torso as shown. If you don't want to do riders legs, what about GSing up some kind of cockpit or housing that the rider/pilot stands or kneels in? It would help raise the torso and avoids the issue of needing mutants or excessive surgery. anotehr option is to find some legs that can be used as a basis, but easier than scratchbuilding. I used dark elf jetbike legs for my Tachikominals. They are really slender but in the right form so were easy to build up into bulkier Guard legs:

I also made some rough rider counts as using exo-skeletons:

I never said I didn't wan't to go the leg route. I actually asked for advice when it came to sculping the legs with green stuff.

I have no more cash to spend on this army so can't buy anything else, but seeing as your talking about scratch build how would you make a cockpit for the spiders? As you could see their quite small.

Well I have 30 spiders... Time to experiment! I'll make a unit of driders!

Ah the benefits of building an army for fun

--- progress.....

Well here we go with... someone with a power sword 'cause I forgot the character didn't have a power weapon... will fix that before the gs dries

And he's done. Had extra green stuff so I made him a scarf. Packing grenades a spear and a close combat weapon, I say one of those pouches holds a bolt pistol... or he can spit a str4 Range 12" and at AP5

Cool idea. Perhaps using some green stuff to blend where his body meets the spider would be good.

Also I'd consider losing the spider head as well.

I'll be following this closely as I plan on doing the same thing to get 10 models and two units out of each Dark Rider/ Warlock box I bought.
