Summary
The inquisitor codex has dropped, and its given some good tools to all imperial armies. These tools will help to shift the balance of power away from the Tau/Eldar domanance in the 40k game today.
This post is designed to review the inquisitors and determine what they can bring to your army.

Take 2 and Call me in the Morning
You cannot just drop 2 inquisitors into your army and say "DONE!" You need to have a plan in order to make them work. I've seen people posting bike lists with 2 inquisitiors, and they don't have a spot for them.
At best, thats units not getting their full out of the points, and at worst its a waste of points and free kill points.

Because inquisitors are allies, you need to treat them like such. You cannot expect to slap them in a land raider with your chapter master. Inquisitors and Chapter Masters must not like the smell of the other guys land raider.
This means that your inquisitors must either be joined to a unit on foot, or be in their own transport.

Foot Inquisitors
A blob of 50 guard is a great spot for a few inquisitors. Sisters of battle squads with 20 sisters is a great spot. Centurian death stars is a great spot. Black Templar blobs are a great spot. See the trend here?
While you can throw them into a squad of 10 marines, your just not going to get the same value as you will out of a larger squad. This is because the force multiplier they provide is best used on squads that cost more.
Here are some ideas I've had for foot inquisitors added to squads.

Power Blob Cheese
Take Coteaz and one other inquisitor. Ally with SoB and Guard or just SoB. This unlocks priests as independent characters. I suggest C:AS as primary with Celesetine as your warlord. Throw them all into one squad.
For your inquisitors take hammerhand on both. Your IG HQ will be a primarias psyker to increase the chances of force multipliers.
This gives the power blob the following.
- Psyotrope Grenades
- Hatred
- Reroll to Wound in Assault
- STR 5 Guard atacks (dual hammerhand)
- Priests will be hitting at STR 8 or 10 - depending on how hammerhand works in C:I
- Reroll saves in assault.
- Stubborn and Fearless
- Hit and Run
- I've been Expecting you backed by tons of firepower
- Rad Grenades
- Deny on 4+ for lvl 2+ pykers, Deny on 3+ for lvl 1 psykers.
You can do this with 20 sisters or 50 guard. Both will give you roughly the same effect. When the squad takes big losses, just bounce the superfriends out to a new squad.
Celestine is used as the warlord to give all priests a LD of 10 for purposes of hymm checks.
The idea here is that instead of stacking just one inquisitor as a divination caddy, your stacking multiple special rules onto a squad.
This means that this squad will eat targets like wraithknights in assault. Rerolling to-wound values means each guardsman will be wounding the wraithknight 30% of the time they hit. They will be hitting 75% of the time.
If the hammerhand is counted like in the GK codex (before force multipliers) the priests are STR 10 when smashing, and combined with Rad Gernades, this means they are inflicting ID on anything T6 or less.
Yes -- thats ID on Riptides. ID on Bloodthirsters, etc...

Centurion DeathStar
Take Coteaz and one other inquisitor in terminator armor with UltraMarines. Take the relic that gives scout if you like. Ally in White Scars to give them Hit and Run or just a CM to tank.
Throw this into a squad of centurians with grav cannons and hurricane bolters. Use Tiggy to get GoI so your mobility problems are resolved. Use servo skulls to assist in lowering deviation until locator beacons are in place.
Teleport this squad around obliterating between one and two targets a turn.

Extra Heavy Weapon
If your running foot based armies, like wolves or even marines you can add an inquisitor to give them an extra heavy weapon. Who does not love an extra incinerator in a squad. How about a psycannon?
If your inquisitor is in terminator armor deep strike him next to the squad you want to join, and then hang out with them lending support.

Armored Inquisitors
You can also bring inquisitors in armor. This is useful if your army is heavly based on armor or fast moving units (like bikes).

Land Raider DeathStar
Not much has changed from this since the GK codex, except that you can add priests to make them even nastier in assault. Pretty much anything they touch will die. There is not much new here.

Valkyrie Troop Drops
Valkyries can add some extra anti-GEQ firepower to your army. If your really worried about flyers you can use their hellstrike missiles and lascannon -- but with a BS3 don't expect miracles.
The real value these things add is that they are a great way to deep strike cheap small scoring units where you need them. 12 points for a late game scoring unit is great -- as eldar jetbikes are testament of.
You can also just throw 3 melta gun guys in there for 42 points to add some threat if desired.

Save Ferris
You can also make your inquisitor your warlord. This can be useful if you have a bad warlord table (Space Marines), no table (IG).
It can also be useful if your warlord normally is in danger and you don't want to risk giving up "Slay the Warlord". Lets say your warlord is a chapter master on a bike -- hes probably going to be getting shot a lot. Making the inquisitor in a chimera 36" away your warlord reduces the chances of him/her getting killed.

Nice review of what an Inquisitor can bring to the table. Synergy with allies is key to getting the most usefulness out of them.

I had not thought about Hammerhand and what it can do for close combats (Str6 or Str7 Celestine sounds SWEET). Also, Rad Grenades help as they can decrease the Toughness of your opponent by 1. With Celestine's Hit and Run ability, your opponent should always be easier to wound. With Regards to Celestine, the current consensus is that Priests use the highest leadership in the unit and not their own (I totally disagree with that consensus as it is apparent the Priests are to use their own Leadership, but if it's acceptable to your opponent, grab a Warlord Trait for the Inquisitor, which itself can be a force multiplier).

Inquisitors also come standard with Psyk-out grenades, which reduces Daemons and Psykers to Initiative 1 in an assault, so even Guardsmen will be hitting before them.

Thanks for reminding me. I forgot that you can also use them to help your warlord issue.

Let say that your warlord table sucks .... like space marines or you don't even have one .. like guard .. then you can swap out for a table that has better rolls.

You can also protect your warlord. You can keep your chapter master on a bike going crazy around your opponents back field without risking you "Slay the Warlord"

You know, I forgot about Rad Gernades also combining with hammerhanded priests.

Wow, I had not thought of that! It'll be tough getting that close to a RipTide, but Tyranid MCs and Daemons that like to get into close combat could be in for a nasty shock when they insta-death to lowly Guards and Sisters.

You can also use warlord to tailor for your opponent at the time of the game.

Say you have:
Uriah
Coteaz
Xenos Inquisitor

Fighting daemons? choose Coteaz.
Enemy have a lot of Ap3? choose Uriah.
Fighting xenos? Choose Xenos. Etc.

Not the best example, but there you go.

Heck, since your priest is rerolling hits, wounds, and invuln saves he has a decent chance of actually killing a termigon in a challenge.

Edit : Most tourneys I attend won't let me trade my warlord. But if you know what your going to see at a tourney, you could always select the right one ahead of time.

Imperials had the least out of everyone before C:I came out. At best, they had two; max grav centurions with Tigirius and some sort of melee White Scars/Iron Hands CM deal.

Great post, definitely a lot of potential for in the new Inquisition book. S5 Rerolling Guardman in a 50man blob is seriously scary.

We've just been talking mainly about close combat, but remember that Divination-Prescience also gives re-rolls to all failed to hit rolls in shooting as well. So take a 50-man blob with First Rank Fire Second Rank Fire re-rolling ALL failed hits. Lasguns aren't the most exciting weapons, but 150 or so twin-linked lasgun shots (plus twin-link on whatever other ranged weapons are in the blob) are going to do some serious damage if they can all get into range. At long range you're still looking at around 100 twin-linked shots from the blob.

You don't need the relic as Centurions can already get the Split Fire USR fairly cheap. BA Priests only give FNP to BA models (as per the FAQ), and there's an issue with the WS Bike dude in the squad, as he can't tank for them, which means you either have to go with no tank, or put two relatively expensive characters in the squad.

Centurions are tricky guys, as they have so much potential, but it's really hard to get it all at the same time.

For your inquisitors take hammerhand on both and divination with coteaz's other power.

4 servitors with HB are 40 points.

Sorry but these two things don't work. Coteaz can either generate from Div/Pyro/Tele, or know Hammerhand, Sanctuary and DE; he can't know Hammerhand and a Div power. And one the second, only 3 Servitors can have heavy weapons.

Unless i missed it there is also Psychic Communion for those very reserve oriented lists.

Also radquisitor + Lysander mmmmmmmmm ID me some T6
Shove in an allied DA with some more rad grenades for ID T7.
Add an additional enfeeble. Then it just gets silly.

You probably already saw my Inquisitor usage in the Salamanders thread labmouse, but what do you think about Inquisitors manning Thunderfire Cannons? TFCs have a tremendous amount of firepower for their points value, and Twin-linked Barrage weapons are an order of magnitude better at sniping and everything else than traditional barrage (I've seen a Rune Priest dedicated to giving Prescience to a Manticore) and servoskulls help out accuracy even more. However, it's using up 170 points or so (taking Coteaz + Xenos w/ Servoskulls) that could potentially be used to have other units (like another Legion of the Damned, or any unit in any other Space Marine list).

The only problems I have with the Guard/Sisters blob Inquisition Death Star is that its resilience to shooting is still not quite as good as I'd like it to be. Against Wave Serpents and Broadside barrages, you're going to be losing a lot of bodies relatively quickly. I guess I'm answering my own implied question here, in that I guess you should take either multiple Guard blobs/Sisters blobs and bounce between them like you said, or ally in additional survivability like Azrael or Sevrin Loth (although Invisibility's cover saves will just get ignored anyways, and Endurance's FnP will also get ignored by S6+, enfeeble is a kick in the whatever to your opponent's units), or do both.

Also, taking Litanies on one of the Priests will ensure that all Hymns go off in the blob, regardless of whose Leadership they test on.

Well, you just need someone with hit and run. A 65 point librarain would give that.
Though why can't the bike tank?

The Bike CM has a cover save if you move the unit, your enemy will just Focus Fire around him.

Yeah, any conversation that includes priests and AS needs to include Litanies. Best 15 points you can spend when you're already paying between 125 and 200 for priesty death.

Right now I am trying to find a way to find a way to give my Sister blob relentless (Biomancy seems my only hope), as that would allow all sorts of silliness. In particular: Use the Liber Hereticus to give them split fire, shoot one girl at the unit you want to assault, and the rest of the blob at a different unit. The trick only really needs to work once (which is good, because you can only get split fire once!) because once the blob reaches combat it just kinda rolls along with consolidations. But playing last night, I really missed being able to bring the firepower of 20 bolters to bear, especially when you flubb the charge distance roll.

Trying to work out some horrible Sisters-IG-Inq fusion, so if you can think of any other (hopefully more reliable) ways to get relentless! that would be most appreciated.

Problem with hit and run from the WS chapter tactics is that Centurions specifically cannot benefit from that. So to get hit and run, you need to find it somewhere else.

The cents don't get it form the WS tactics (which they should be IH, IF, or UM anyway), but can get it from their WS buddy teaching them how to dance in centurion armor.

"It does not apply to models in units that include (...), Centurions." (SM, p. 77)

So the character loses hit and run when he joins the Centurions.

This is only from the chapter tactics, though. Hit and run normally transfers, so you could get it from a Tau Commander, for example.
