Good day and welcome to my randomness.

My name is Freddy, just your average geek that enjoys painting to calm down after a long day at work. I do not consider myself anywhere near a professional level for my skills since I just paint for the enjoyment of it, on occasion though some local friends or my local gaming shop will ask me to paint some stuff for them. so I will likely include shots of those in this blog post as well. I started painting mini's several years ago for myself and friends to use during our monthly D&D gaming nights and still work on new ones as we play a new game, but i have always liked futuristic and post apocalyptic stuff so i was drawn to the style of the 40k universe.

The first unit i am working on will be my HQ. A runepriest

so far i am at the bits selection stage and can not make my mind up on a couple of the parts. (i tend to go more for aesthetics then loaded up to match the army roster. but i do want to make sure it can be identified as the unit it is supposed to be at least)

the shoulder pads i am still selecting, but i am stuck on taking one with a pelt on it, or a wolf skull ... or just a blank one and trying a transfer (have never done them before)

Also the belt part, i am not sure on yet either. it looks a bit bulky and not sure if it will be out of place on the unit.

the base will be finished off with some small patches of snow and a little dried grass.

i am open to suggestions on bits to change out before i start painting these parts up.

for the color scheme i have decided to stick with the normal dark space wolves grey with weathering and such. had debated for a bit on making a custom grey for it, but that would end up being to difficult to keep uniform throughout the entire painting process of everything.

While waiting for Army Painter colored primer to come in ... and still making up my mind on the bits for the space wolves HQ figure.

the weather finally cleared up enough that i could clearcoat some terrain i have been working on for my LGS. now once it is all dry i will set up my light box and take some photo's of the parts ...

Some nice stuff on here Your scenery and your Ork are quite good
Regarding the parts for your Rune Priest, they all seem pretty good choices. Maybe swap the sword for something a bit like a Crozius? I like the head as it shows him to be old and grizzled. Maybe the wolf helmet would also work.
Looking forward to this being finished

thanks! ... i thought about the wolf helm for him, but it wouldn't work to well with the chest section so going to save it for another figure.

still deciding on doing a Crozius over the sword ... this one will be my HQ figure for the escalation league and it can not be a named figure. so will be building a few more later on as the points allow and i can always change up the weapons on the others to have a variety.

well today was sort of productive ... but not for the hobby ...

got the terrain delivered to my LGS and the owner was very happy ... he is deciding now what to get next to give to me to paint (which i will not argue with, he is normally more then fair on re-reimbursement for painting stuff. i paint stuff, he gives me free 40k stuff in return)

picked up some more supplies while out running errands ... still trying to gather up enough styrene for a project i have in my head ... sort of a titan for Orks but not a Gargant ... more like the SM styled ones .. but more worn and then looted and orkified. really need to find a better source for the styrene though, the local place that sells it never has much in stock and is closing up their doors in January ...

also my wifes cat is trying to keep me from doing much of anything else today it seems ...

so that, and supper (cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped chicken) on the grill ... while playing some World of Tanks waiting for it to get done ... makes up the rest of my evening.

well my Army Painter spray primer is still on backorder so i set off to find something that would work in town ... decided to give Rustoleum a try .. picked up their camo spray that says it will bond with plastic. and it was about the same color as the army painter i had ordered. So i gave it a try on a scrap part and it worked great .. so i have started to basecoat my Orks.

they also have a medium grey that i am debating on picking up for my Space wolves. its a little darker then the grey i have on order with Army Painter stuff. may give it a go since i would like to get some of the units basecoated at least while i am off work this week.

went ahead and got the last of them basecoated since there may be a storm heading my way in the next few days ...

tomorrow morning going to go out and find a paint that will work for my space wolves .. and make my mind up on the shoulder pads for my Rune Priest pictured above so i can get him going as well.

does anyone have a suggestion for mounting shoulder pads onto a sprue or something to paint? or would it be better to put them onto the model if i can.

Get the batch ready, an excellent plan With the shoulder pads I blu-tack them to a paintbrush I'm not using (The brushes wooden end goes in the pads indent) works pretty well

just a small update ...

finally got the army painter paint in ... so my space wolves are based ...

got my drop pod assembled as well .. it is still in a few pieces as i am going to make it open and close ... holding off on painting for a little bit till i can find some magnets for the doors so they will stay shut better...

also picked up a DF Crusader model .. to build up and paint for my Space Wolves ... nothing that can actually be used .. heh but it will look cool ...

and the last photo is a christmas present i got a friend that plays Tau ... i do not think he has this one just yet

i ended up getting most of the minis posed in such a way i had easy access to the shoulder pad .. so i went ahead and glued them on ... on most all of the backpacks tho i left them off .. so i can detail them and under them a little bit more ... (along with the weapons for the few that i had holding their gun in front of them) ...

some of the head's that i wanted to detail that were going to be obscured a bit by the model i did not glue on either so i can work on them separately ...

That's a lot of things to work on don't let a back log build or things will never see the light of day (like my Necrons)

made a little more progress ... but will be iffy for the upcoming week ... my wife is going in for surgery on Wednesday (early stages of cancer they are hoping to remove and make sure it hasn't started anywhere else) if all goes well then i will be at home for the week with her and painting on and off during it... if it doesn't then who knows... :(

The Fenrisian Wolf that i did, (still need to detail the mouth and eyes and lower legs) my wife has been watching me paint long enough that she has started asking how i paint them so i did this showing her how ... she is interested in painting animals and such so will see how it goes with the rest of the wolves i have (3 boxes of em)

and the Rune Priest from the bits shown above ... mostly painted and assembled ... still need to do some highlighting and a bit more weathering ... but wanted it together to figure out where would look best on the highlights ... (the head and beard is freshly inked so will be wiping it down soon to clean it back up and then highlights on it as well)

my group of long fangs are getting closer .. as well as the first group of grey hunters ... (though i have lost a head somewhere, it fell off of the sprue i had it glued to while painting ... so i gotta find it or start on another one... darn)

still waiting to be basecoated are another group of grey hunters, and 2 more groups of long fangs... then need to build up a wolf priest or two ... and my other drop pod and the razorbacks.

a little more progress ...

today between running errands and getting ready for wife's surgery tomorrow i have been working on stuff to keep my mind off of things.

the razorback was a model i saved from someone else who had painted it to look like a smurf ... still need to detail on it more and weather it but i am happy with the outcome ...

got the drop pod ready to detail and weather as well.
