Subject: Going it solo - The battle of Annon 9 part 1 - Completed
Welcome to the rolling fields of Annon 9 once a peaceful backwater planet of the Imperium. Recently there has been disturbing sightings from the local populace of foul creatures running rampant on the moonlit fields surrounding the Cathedral city of Bustyrama. With one of the Emperors great Cathedrals possibly at risk an initial strike force of the Sisters of the Nights Rose has been tasked with investigating the rumours spreading out from Bustyrama. Either the populace will be reigned in or the source of the sighting exterminated and then the populace silenced, either way its not going to be good for those in question.
The initial strike force has been dispatched.

Do we fancy an imperial or traitor victory the odds are even but who's going to come out the victor.
------
Deployment
Spoiler:
The Sisters were randomly generated the left hand side of the battle field and placed their defence line in position to hold back the foe.
They then preceded to win the choice of deployment and decided to go first.
Overall view after deployment.
Sisters left flank
And right flank
The cunning wolves decided to lean into their left flank to try and remove St Celestine what they considered one of the greater threats.
Left flank
Right flank secured on top of the building are the Long Fangs and underneath a Grey Hunter squad.
Turn 1
Spoiler:
Turn one starts with St Celestine and her retinue flying up the battlefield and taking cover behind the building with a squad of Sisters supporting from the rear.
The Exorcist lets loose on the Long Fang squad killing three Missile Launchers in the process. While the Retributers go all faithed out (Quad Gun included) on the Grey Hunters underneath the building, all their shots mostly hit and most wound but the armour of the Grey Hunters seemed to be made of steel and not a warrior fell.
Turn one for the Wolves and they decide to try and weaken St Celestine and her unit with as much bolter fire as possible. The Grey Hunters on the left flank lay in first and then the ones on the right are just in range by an inch to lend a hand taking down six Seraphim in total leaving two left and St Celestine herself.
The Remaining Long Fangs have a pop at the Exorcist both hitting and one going through to rip off a track immobilising the vehicle.
St Celestine is left feeling a bit unsure of herself
End of first turn and it looks like the Dark Wolves have inflicted a good amount of casualties but have lost a large part of their Long Fang unit, will their good start continue into turn two giving them the upper hand....
Turn 2
Spoiler:
Turn two sees the Sisters squad on the right given a choice of targets in the end they decide to weaken the full 10 man Grey Hunters squad for Celestine to have a go at, they manage to take out four at long range.
Celestine and her two girls let rip, one of the dual hand flamers is still alive , they don't do a single wound though
On the left flank The Exorcist takes down two more Long Fangs and the Retributers with quad gun manage to gets lots of hits and wounds again on the Grey Hunter squad under the building but they make all their saves. In combat Celestine and her two girls wipe out the remains of the Gray Hunter squad and then hit and run back to the cover of the building in the centre.
They are still going to get shot something badly, here's hoping Celestine can make all her saves as she only gets the chance to come back from the dead once now.
Turn two for the Wolves. The Thunderwolves decide that charging St Celestines unit is the best way forward so they get their charge bonus and have as many able bodies as possible, they greatly fear her AP3 sword though but with a few Storm Shields they hope to pull through. The small Grey Hunter unit alongside the Thunderwolves takes some pop shots at the Sister squad advancing in on their position taking out four in the process.
The wolves charge
One takes a wound from overwatch fire then Celestine goes first, whirling in a death dance she gets lots of hits which all wound but luckily for the wolves they all bounce off their Stormshields. Then its down to a mass brawl both of the Seraphim are taken out but they do inflict two wounds back on the wolves making it even.
The turn ends out looking like this.
VP's
Sisters of the Nights Rose 1, First Blood - Net 2
Skyrar's Dark Wolves 1
Its even on victory points so far although the tide has turned with the Dark Wolves taking a lot more casualties over the last turn.
Turn 3
Spoiler:
On Celestines flank the large Sister squad forms the deadly V formation with the melta weapons at the back for protection, they along side the smaller Sister squad fire at the small Grey Hunter squad with the Battle Leader in bolter fire takes down the from two wolves with the melta gun and multi melta both hit and wound the Battle Leader who fails both of his invulnerable saves melting on the spot, yeah I did forget the look out sirs but I don't think he was really worthy after that!
On the other flank the Exorcist takes out another Long Fang and the Rets take out a Grey Hunter.
In combat Celestine kills another Thunderwolf and the other runs away but she doesn't catch him.
At the end of the Sisters turn it looks like victory maybe secured.
There's not many wolves left now. The three remaining Grey Hunters from the small unit charge the larger Sister squad two are taken out and they fail their charge Meanwhile the Thunderwolf makes his charge into the combat after, but fails to do anything but he goes unhurt in return. The Grey Hunters try to be clever and have a go at sniping a few sisters from the small squad as they are just in range they manage one but one of the wolves dies to his own plasma gun, oh dear!
The end of turn three and theres no chance for the wolves.

Turn 4
Spoiler:
It mop up time for the Sisters now, Celestine lends a hand to finish of the remaining Thunderwolf while the small Sister squad takes out the remaining Grey Hunter on the same flank. The Ret's get lucky this turn and take out a few Grey Hunters. The Exorcist fails to remove the last Long Fang (sergeant).
End of the Sisters turn
The remaining Wolves take pot shots at Celestine but fail to wound her and then tuck their tails between the legs and run to fight another day.

Victory for the Sisters
After game thoughts: Celestine is rather good that AP3 sword of hers is a good threat especially with her jump range, she did take quite a few hits but nothing got through her armour. The Rets were a bit lack luster but I think that was due to the excellent saving throws of the Grey Hunters. The Wolves got off to a really good start if they had taken down Celestine I think the battle may have stayed in their favour.
I hope you enjoyed it there will be further batreps large and small on Annon 9 and then other planetary systems will follow if people are interested, I've got lots of ideas in the pipeline and yes I need to get some better scenery for the next one
Please let me know your thoughts.
This is my first attempt at a batrep so be easy on me
Turns will be added over the week when time allows so please do check back for updates. Yes this is me playing with myself its the only real way for me to get any use out of my minis in a way in which I find enjoyable (I don't have access to players outside of the tournament scene and need a way to release my nerdage). All minis in my batreps will be 99% painted, I'm working on the scenery...in this game the Man O War boxes are line of sight blocking obstructions.

That was a pretty cool report. The scenery is fine... mine would be a wooden table and some jenga blocks
One thing though, I would have thought the Exorcist would have been a larger priority target for the Wolves. Did they have any plans for dealing with it?

nice batrep, thanks for posting - and nicely placed minis! Also the nostalgia of having man'o'war boxes on the table for us old nerds
Run a whole lot of wfrp and other rpg's, play The Woods and Kill Team, gather and look mournfully at imperial guard knowing I'll never finish enough to use them on the tabletop

Poor cubs
After the first turn I thought the Wolves were going to pull off the win but it all went down hill for them after that.

On the Man O War front I'll be working on a few fleets soon for a batrep, keep an eye on my blog for updates
