I recently started painting a Chimera. I wanted to do a green and black alternating stripe color theme but the dark green is just not showing up. No matter how many coats I put on it. I am using the Daler-Rowney Acyrlics because they are cheap and come in a large size. The black gets really good coverage but when I try to apply the green it just doesn't show up.

pics in the next post.

The slightly discolored/smudgy part is where i painted the green.

Are you going for 'rough' looking stripes or hard edge/angular stripes, firstly?

The issue you're running in to is two dark colors next to each other. It's going to be harder to see.

May I make a recommendation and simply swap the colors.

Paint the entire tank the dark green, then hit the tank with a slightly brighter shade of green through drybrushing to pick up the edges/details. Then go in and use the black for the banding/striping pattern. Then drybrush the black areas with a medium grey to give them definition.

It may yield better results.

Just a suggestion. Try that out and see if you're happier with the look. Best of luck sir, and I hope it helps.

Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Is the green you're using Hookers Green or Viridian Hue? They are both hues and aren't meant to cover just tint.
If you're going to stay with this type of acrylic paint, try Sap Green mixed with a bit of the Black.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

For the lighter colours, you need another lighter base colour that covers the black well. They are currently washed out and not covering properly. Maybe a light grey and then a white before putting on the red and yellow. Both of these don't cover black well at all.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!
