With Super-heavies being a thing in standard 40k now I've taken the plunge and put together a Thunderhawk for my Dark Angels. I dislike international shipping, and resin kits and am not made of money so the Forgeworld thunder hawk was not a realistic option for something that will see play maybe 4 times a year. I then stumbled across this thread here on dakka. I was sold. Making a few changes here and there resulted in this, the Nephilim Thunderhawk. Sorry, the pics are cheap cell phone camera pics.

I made a few changes. I was having trouble doing the wings as suggested and decided I liked this double engine look better. and with some 3d printed parts I was able to hide a square tube I used as a support brace. I obviously made the t-hawk a Ravenwing craft and used bits from the jetfighter kit. There is a smattering of 3d printed parts on this thing and all the weapons are wsywig. Its smaller then the forge world model I'm sure but I've been told the 1st thing people think when they see this is thunderhawk. Oh, and I used pipes from one of the 40k terrain kits to make the gun on top. A 3D printed tip is supposed to make it look like a giant lasgun barrel to represent a turbo laser destructor. I also 3d printed a fey odds and ends to fill some gaps. Nothing a skilled man with plasticard could not do.

If I where to do this all over again, I would 3d print a few more parts and change the top gun to look more like the TLD on the titan kits.

I did all the modeling and conversion work. A friend of mine put a nice tabletop quality paint job on it.

My army has very basic bases, but here I think it might actually look too empty.

She is quite long but balanced well.

I really like this tail for this bird.

A shot of all the detail on the underside. You can see a gap my 3d printing did not cover.

The cockpit does not have any glass. I intended to use some simple clear plastic as glass but the glue started eating my canopy.

A close up of the largest 3d printed part, it covers the top of the upside down rhino and crossbeam the wings use for support.

Very cool!

With regard to the glue "eating" the clear canopy, what kind of glue were you using? Super glue can have weird effects on clear plastic so I'd suggest PVA.

The 3d printed canopy is kinda thin. I'm told the glue used by my painted was eating or warping the canopy, not the glass. I'm not sure what kind it was, but he has put glass in GW models with out issue before so I'm sure it was something that normally works well.

When I was at the HH weekender, a FW painter told me to try gloss varnish to glue on canopy 'glass'.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Awesome work, an almost seamless conversion. Great stuff.
