Wondering Why the Emperor Left

So there is cool Thunderhawk Gunship conversion going around. It was actually spread around by GW, as one of their employees came up with the plans. Anyways the kits you need are:

2x Stormraven Gunship
1x Vindicator

Its not cheap, but compared to like $700 from Forge World, its a steal. I was only able to find one stormraven, so I bought it so I could do some pre-assembly.

I actually ended up finding these pieces in my bitz box, I think the wings could be attached to the tunderhawk as the front pair of small wings. I thought the old SM tank hull kinda looked similar to the Thunderhawks cockpit design, so I grabbed that up too

after chopping it up a bit is doesn't look to bad except for the fact that its too low on the hull of the stormraven. I don't know, what do you guys think?

Looking good, how long is it going to be?

My local GW are making them from 2 Stormsravens and a vindicator.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right.

As someone who has a Stormraven still in the box and has most of another one from a bitz bag, I would really like to see more of this.

There's a step by step over here. Also, it doesn't look like this version uses a Rhino, but I haven't read every step carefully yet.

Here is probably the best looking version (imo), here which does use the Vindi.

nice work. I might try this and make a new class of ship after a few mods. chapterhouse's storm raven conversion kit may come in handy.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

I really like the above pic of the store conversion, I think that's a good way to go with your idea, Runningwithscissors.

The only problem i have with it is the lack of bulk in the belly, with the step down between the two joined pieces.

Okay, back to the Thunderhawk. I finished about a half of it last night so here are some pictures. If you want to make one yourself, I would suggest finding the original directions online, because I left a lot of steps out of this post for the sake of length of the article, and time. Also these are NOT my original plans, all credit for the plans go to the creator.

I started by trimming the cabin. Make sure to make the cut as smooth as possible, as this is where you fit the other Stormraven hull.

Next I cut the nose of the front of the 2nd Stormraven hull, then built it as normal, leaving of the back plate.

Glue them together as evenly as possible. The guide says pinning is optional, but I just used plastic glue, and a dot or two of superglue to support it while the plastic glue dried. I would have pinning it together just to make sure, but there wasn't a very good solid piece of plastic, to drill into.

Here I skipped forward, past the tail and engine. Here is a quick shot of the whole thing.

And another with the landing gear built, and engines attached.

A bit of pinning is NECESSARY for straightening the wings.

And it finally looks like something that could fly...

I be posting more later, I'll be on vacation for a few days but once
I get back, expect more updates.

Whilst you've got the silhouette pretty much bang-on; this is far too small to be a Thunderhawk compared to the FW model. Whilst it's a very good kitbash, a Thunderhawk it is not IMO. You should have made it so there is room for 2 SM's in the cockpit for example and made the hull wider to make it closer in size to the FW model.

I'd be interested if someone could do a size comparison. And I wonder how it would turn out if you used chapterhouse studio storm raven add-ons on both of the storm ravens.

This a very nice piece of kit indeed.
I have started one along the same lines (ie GW two stormravens conversion), but halfway through, I realised that try as I like, it will not match the size and proportions of a Thunderhawk.
On top of that, the bulkier you make it look, the more ridiculous some parts look, especially engines and tail (stormraven tail is way to small for a Thunderhawk).
Well, in the end, I am getting towards a vehicle between a Thunderhawk and a Stormeagle. At a loss for a name though, help.
Here s a WIP picture - I'll post more if anyone s interested.

Great start, mate.

I don't think it was necessary to necro a two year old thread though.
