I screwed up when giving the miniature a wash. Look at the right shoulder when facing the picture below. You can see where I tried to correct it when it happened using some water. I'm not sure what to do to fix it. Keep in mind I'm just a beginner, so don't judge anything to super high standards. You can tell it doesn't match the rest of the model.

Thanks for any recommendations. I used the Sepia wash over the base color (which was a skeleton bone by Army Painter). I found that my Vallejo "buff" color matches it pretty good, but it extremely light compared to the rest of the mini (reference the base).

Did you seal underneath that wash layer?

If so you could take a q tip with a bit of alcohol and rub it off.

Otherwise you will need to probably retouch up with the original color and re wash aftr it dried.

Not exactly sure what you mean by seal. Still a bit green at this so not familiar with all the terms. It's just paint and wash at this point.

With seal he is asking if you put a layer of varnish between the basecolor and the wash. Judging from the description you gave I would guess no.

This is a good practice since the varnish will let you clean off the wash without damaging the layer beneath.

In this case I think you will need to repaint the shoulderpad with the basecolor and then rewash it. Unfortunately.

And on another note. We are all green when we start out. It's good that you ask, we are all glad to answer as best we can.

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping that wouldn't be the answer, but I was thinking it as well. I might try a dry brush to blend and if that doesn't work start over. : /

I am not a fan of the washes for this same reason. They are effective for getting into recesses but are not so great when applied accidentally over a base coat as they tend to leave behind that blotchy appearance.

However, you can solve the problem by switching over to an oil wash. For $15 - $20 you can get the materials. An oil wash takes longer to dry and can be pulled off of your base coat and/or highlights with just a cotton swab and some white spirit.

I find this happens a lot, but I must say that I have the following steps, so it doesn't usually matter as in the broad areas where this might happen, I am going over with the base color again.

Prime
Basecoat color
Wash
Basecoat color (sometimes a mix of the next layer and base) leaving the recessed wash areas untouched
Layer
Layer
Highlight

But I'm painting yellow, which requires a lot of layering.

Also, I have decent end results after years of practice, but I am not a great painter, so I do a lot of touch ups. So listen to these other guys . I think I need to try the varnish coats to save some headache.
