Been working on a Hive Crone model and looking for some constructive criticism before I go further. Thought the model was smaller than in the fluff so stretched the body and widened out the wings. I know this Crone has some Harpy bitz but meh I like that aspect. Lemme know what you think about the mods if you could. Hope the pics come through.

Also, having real problems getting the flying base to mate up to the slits for it in the chest of the Crone. Anyone else having this issue?

Looks interesting.

To get the slots to line up, I think you need the base the other way round to how you have it... ours sit quite nicely, no glue, just magnet.

(Excuse messy desk...)

Hmmmm not sure *I* approve... Looks a bit odd - the section you added is too uniform in cross section; doesn't have enough variance to blend smoothly into the rest of the body. Could be the camera angle though... are you planning to add any more to it?

Yeah, all I had to stretch the midsection was some tube, really needed a very steep cone to blend in from the barrel chest to the much smaller tail section.
And stretching those wings out. Jesus what a pain. Only Tyranid arms I had lying around were some Trygon arms that wete left from a Mawloc build a few days ago. So to accomodate the lengthened body I had to stretch the arms out straight. PITA.
I am going to put some shell across the top with some greenstuff. That should help hide up the plain cylinder I used for the body extension. Just thought of that. And can use some of the larger vents that are supposed to go on the Crone.

There's some shell and vents on that tubular section.

Looks better after a coat of primer. As always.

Found the problem with the base. So much material in the mods, hanging so far back, shifted COG and tilting rearward. Some work with a dremel fixed that.

While the quality of your modeling work with the greenstuff isn't too shabby, I don't quite know why you feel this conversion is necessary. It makes your Crone look quite weird, and the model doesn't look out of proportion or anything to begin with.

8the base model looks like a flying organ. sure, that's pretty much what it is, but some people (myself included) do not like the aesthetic.

Well, in fifth edition when the Harpy was introduced sans model, it was (in the fluff) the size of a flying Trygon if much less dense. So I built my three Harpies from Trygon kits. I felt the Crone should be Harpy sized, and set out to make it such. Also, the Crone/Harpy kit seems like a balled up torso like a Carnifex rather than the elongated, streamlined form of a designed avian.

So I guess the short answer is that the GW kit didnt fit the image I had. So I changed it. Or tried to at least.

Here are some further pictures so you can see what I mean about streamlined and all. Maybe it illustrates what I wanted, maybe not. Basically I just thought the Crone looked like a ball with wings and wanted to try to fix that some. The wing expansion came from having to live up to those Balrog wings on the Harpies,
