Hi Dakka peeps,

I have never liked the look of the Rhino for me it is way to boxy. I had a couple of spare Chimeras floating around from a guard army idea I was toying with.
So I thought way not mix things up a bit and try and make a Rhino from them.

I pulled the turret apart and put the top hatch on with a storm bolter on top. Added some spikes and chaos icons. I took the lasguns out and found that a marine head fits in nicely so I made a trophy rack from them.

Hope you guys like it. This is my cherry so be gentle

Looks good.
One criticism though would be the size. I struggle to see 10 guardsmen in there, let alone 10 marines!! Mostly a problem I have with WH40k models though, as they're all ridiculously undersized!

That looks neat. From a gaming perspective its missing the side doors, but thats easy enough to get past given that everyone knows what a Rhino looks like

It's a cool conversion, but I'm not so sure about it representing a rhino.

Plenty good enough for a counts-as, although be warned that a fussy tournament player might complain about the dimensions not being quite right - not much you can do about that.

If anyone moans about the lack of side doors, just point to those small side hatches and say the marines have been trained to get in and out through those. GW have never said what those hatches are (engine access, crew escape?), and regardless, the chaos engineers may have modified this Chimera after looting it.

Any complaints of the dimension not being right ask them how wide the "original" Rhinos are I will give a hint: thinner than a Chimera.

Most of my rhinos and variants are the old MKI mars pattern models. I can't say I've ever had anyone complain about them.

I like it. Plus you get bonus points for the identical colour scheme to mine. Lol.

You could get round the issue of it not being a genuine rhino by claiming it as a salvaged apc. Lets face it, chaos forces would happily use anything they can get their mutated hands on.

Edit: as for the size difference. Its actually negligible. In length, height and width.

Tournaments aren't an issue, I only play with a group of mates. For my next little project I'm going to try and turn one into a pred. See if I can set the turret back and mount some heavy bolters on the side.

Cheers for the support,

Can not say that I wouldn't be against you using as count as, pop the floats on the sides and add the side door and a couple of smoke stacks to "Rhino" it up maybe?
Not sure on the heads. Looks like the troops in the back are sticking they're heads out the window and singing "Are we there? Are we there? Are we there?"

Good point - the helmets would be improved by having spikes through them, to make it more obvious they're trophies (as opposed to a really odd chaotic mutation )

I've been meaning to get some of that new blood paint and add some carnage. I'll see if I can make them look more like trophy racks

It's nice, but it looks nothing like a rhino. It's pretty obviously a red-painted chimera.

To get the effect off better, you'd have to do some conversion work so that it at least had the side access points that a rhino has.

I used the Chimera chassis for my counts-as russes, using predator turret and sponsons. Because the sponsons are obviously remote controlled, it works pretty well in my view

I stuck a big sleeve over the Predator autocannon to get the battlecannon look, but you can leave that off if you're actually making a predator

The biggest problem is that the Chimera turret ring is off centre. I had to fiddle and slice and cut and shred a bit to slice the turret ring off to allow th predator to be centrally located. Its not impossile, just a bit fiddly.

Love that russ. Looks a lot leaner and meaner. I don't like the boxy look of the russ. I think I'm going to have to do a guard army now..... thanks lol
