That's right, playaaahs, the July Painting Challenge is BACK! Check out last year's unbelievably awesome thread HERE: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/535944.page

Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/WarbossTae
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/WarbosstaeFanpage
Ladyboss' Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theladybossisalwaysright
Podcast: Search "WarbossTae" and you should find us! It's called General Nonsense, and its geared just as much for the significant other as it is for us hobbyists =D

This year, we're going bigger and badder than ever before! So here are the rules:

THE PURPOSE OF THE CHALLENGE: To get active youtubers as well as hobbyists who might not be youtubers yet to film a month long project log, from start to finish. I know a lot of people who've never filmed a video before, then joined the Challenge, and now are active members of the youtube miniatures community. So join in, even if you can't paint or film every day, and see how much you get done in a month!

1) Choose to paint something that's been on your to-do list for a while. Commit to painting it up by the end of the month. Can be as small as a single figure, to an entire army, like I did with last year's Vostroyans!
2) The July Painting Challenge is a month long commitment to film EVERY SINGLE DAY, if even on your dinky little phone, if even for just a minute to say, "I did absolutely nothing today but sit on my butt and eat ice cream and play CoD". The July Painting Challenge is the ONLY (as far as I know) Challenge on YouTube that encourages you to film every single day for updates, if only to answer the daily question!
3) Each day will have a question, which you can see below. Answer each day's question with your video update and let the community learn more about you!
4) Every Saturday, the daily question will be replaced with a Secondary Objective Task, which you have the entire week to complete.
5) You'll have successfully completed the July Painting Challenge if you've answered all of the daily questions and fulfilled all of the Secondary Objectives. Successful completion of the Challenge will win you eternal fame and notoriety in the annals of history!!!

THIS YEAR, THERE IS A TWIST! The Ladyboss has been good enough to jump onboard and do her own weekly checklist of challenges! This is NOT for the gamer/hobbyist, but for the significant other to undertake (ideally a wife or girlfriend, but this can ALSO apply to husbands/boyfriends with some minor tweaking!) These will be given out every seven days and do not have to be done each day (although that was the original idea), as long as it is done by the end of the month. The Ladyboss is currently setting up a facebook page where your significant others can post pictures or feedback from THEIR challenges, so that everybody can cheer each other on, and so that the significant others who put so much time and patience into supporting (i.e. "putting up with") our hobby get a little love and something fun to do, as well! Example challenge checklist would be something like this:

1) wear high heels for a day
2) make yourself up like your favorite movie star for one day
3) plan and go on a night of karaoke with your gamer
4) etc etc etc

If you think that your wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend would be interested in joining the month long Challenge, the Ladyboss' page on Facebook is the place to go!

Do you know what commitment you want to make for the month of July? If so, respond to this thread and keep your eye on it!

JULY PAINTING CHALLENGE WARM UP!

For those of you who want to participate, here are the three videos you can post up in the days before July. Good luck!

June 28 – Talk about your commitment! What do you want to finish by the end of the month, how high is it on your to-do list (is it a priority to play or something you want to paint for fun, etc.), and how do you plan to film and upload (camera, phone, or pictures uploaded to your computer then shared via Quicktime)

June 29 – This is your last chance to change your commitment before the Challenge begins (not really, but try to stick to what you commit to, ya bums!). You have a couple things to do in this video:
1) Film your painting area, and your favorite snack and warm or cold drink that you enjoy while painting your miniatures!
2) Film your Oath of Moment. This is basically your weekly or month-long commitment that you want to complete by the end of the week or month. Example: “By the end of the week, I will basecoat these models.” Or “By the end of the month, I will finish painting this Warhound Titan”.
3) Take a picture of yourself wielding your pantbrush or hobby tools, and post it to the WarbossTae Facebook page under the post “Challenger Roll Call”

June 30 – Rest! No video! Or, for you advanced participants that want to go the full monty, do the following: Showcase the models you plan to paint. Film an overview of them organized (or not!) into the order you want to paint them. On your own, take the July Painting Challenge Oath of Moment, get a good night’s sleep, and get ready to rock!

July 1 –LET’S DO THIS!!!

And now...the Daily Questions for the month of July! Remember to answer each one on the day of the month it is connected to, and that Secondary Objectives should be completed by the next Saturday! Days are listed in order of the day of the month, so follow along!

DAILY QUESTIONS AND SECONDARY OBJECTIVES
1) Tuesday – What is one of your non-miniatures related talents or hobbies? Challenge Repeaters, you can either choose to showcase your same talent/hobby from last year’s Challenge, or talk about something different.
2) Wednesday - What is your favorite mini that you painted in the last year? Show it to us for extra Tae points! (DISCLAIMER: Tae points are not an actual currency, and therefore cannot be traded in for purchase of products or services. Tae points are created for entertainment purposes only...)
3) Thursday - What is the next model you want to add to your collection? Anything from a character clamshell to a Forgeworld Manta! Tell us why!
4) Friday – What was the last movie you watched in the theatre/cinema? What did you think of it?
5) Saturday – SECONDARY OBJECTIVE: Find one project from last year’s July Painting Challenge and send that youtuber a PM or comment thanking them or giving them feedback on why you thought their project was awesome and that you wished they would've finished it. This could be anyone from someone who completed the Challenge, to a youtuber who filmed a couple videos then had to give up for whatever reason. In one of your videos this week, tell us about whose project you visited.
6) Sunday – Share a podcast or youtube channel that you like to listen to or watch in the background while you work on your minis! Why do you like it? (ahem...General Nonsense...WarbossTae Youtube channel...ahem...=P)
7) Monday – “THAT Guy” story time! Tell us a story about “THAT Guy” that hangs out at your local hobby store. The one you see all the time that’s just a little…off. He could be eccentric, a really obnoxious know it all, kind of weird, totally awesome, or borderline creepy. Heck…it could even be…a GIRL!
8) Tuesday –There are many 40k roleplaying games out now by Fantasy Flight Games. You get to play as an agent of the Inquisition, a Rogue Trader or his crew, a Space Marine, a Chaos Space Marine, or a trooper in the Imperial Guard. What would you like to see FFG do a roleplaying game about next?
9) Wednesday – What painting/modeling technique or skill do you want to improve?
10) Thursday – If you could own any weapon or piece of gear from the Warhammer or 40k games, what would you want?
11) Friday – If you could be an extra in the upcoming Star Wars movie, what would you want to be? Nobody with lines, just someone hanging out in the background, doing background things.
12) Saturday – SECONDARY OBJECTIVE: Spend one day this week doing absolutely NOTHING hobby related. Take the day off, maybe help your ladyboss with one of her challenges. Just chill out! Don’t forget to still post and upload a video answering the daily question!
13) Sunday – Warhammer 40k Imperial vehicles and starships are all given very gothic and baroque names (http://www.scholaprogenium.com/starship.html) If your trusty paintbrush had a name, what would it be? Remember, be majestic!
14) Monday –Take the camera to school/work day! Show us around the office or campus, if you can. If you don’t do either, or feel too weird to do that, take a scenic walk around town NEAR your campus or office. Tell us about a day in the life of YOU!
15) Tuesday – How you doing, you big, beautiful Challenge Participant? You should be halfway through your project at this point. Compare your progress to an Imperial Guard battle. Are you steamrolling everything in your path on the way to victory, slowly footslogging toward the objective, or mired down in barbed wire and being trampled on by the enemy? Think of your own metaphor and tell us about it!
16) Wednesday – GW is known for producing one off Specialist games sometimes (Dreadfleet, Space Hulk) If you could have them produce one, what would it be? What would it be about? What would it be called?
17) Thursday – If you could be written into any Black Library (or other game universe’s equivalent) story, what kind of character would you want to be? In what kind of story? A space marine captain crusading against orcs, a Dark Elf assassin on the prowl in the back alleys of Middenheim, etc.
18) Friday – Choose one of the following as a pet/companion. Tell us what you’d name him and how having it would change your life: 1) Gnoblar Trapper 2) Baby Squig 3) Watcher in the Dark 4) Baby Termagant 5) Pick another suitably “cute” pet and describe it!
19) Saturday – SECONDARY OBJECTIVE: Go outside and film something cool about the place you live. This is different from taking the camera to work or school, find a "touristey" spot that the Ladyboss and I would visit if we went to your neck of the woods. Tell us some fun facts about your city/town, or take us to your favorite place to get food, etc.
20) Sunday – Hollywood is going to make a Warhammer Fantasy or 40k movie! What will it be about? Which Hollywood movie stars would be in it? As what characters?
21) Monday – Do you play or own anything from GW's The Hobbit game? What model is your favorite? Seriously, who is playing this?
22) Tuesday – If you worked at GW (or any other miniatures company) what job would you want to have? Real or imaginary! (example: Game Designer or Guy that Trolls Forums for Good Ideas)
23) Wednesday – What army would you want designed next? (example: Eldar Exodite Outcasts, Adeptus Arbites street judges, Chaos Dwarves, etc)
24) Thursday – If GW were to produce a model of you, what would it be? In which army? Describe your pose. What would you be equipped with?
25) Friday – Same question as on the 15th! Compare your July Painting Challenge Progress to an Imperial Guard battle! How are you doing now, Commander?
26) Saturday – SECONDARY OBJECTIVE: Go on a date or hang out with your Challenge Support Group (friends, gaming buddies, significant other, etc.) to thank them for supporting you through the past month. Toast the models you’ve already finished, those that you are about to, and those that never saw the paintbrush.
27) Sunday – Story time! Tell us about one of your favorite miniature wargaming or RPG moments.
28) Monday – We’ve all got that one (some of us have much more…) impulse buy, where weeks later we look at what we bought and say, “…what was I THINKING?!? I'm never going to paint/play with this thing...” What is one of your biggest/most recent impulse buys?
29) Tuesday – If the game was real (whoa!), and you could actually command one of the armies in the game, and watch the battle play out from the safety of an orbiting Thunderhawk, orbital station, hiveship, space hulk, etc., which army would you want to command? Which army would you want to do battle against and actually see fight your army? Why?
30) Wednesday – If you could go back and change one thing about your commitment to the Challenge, what would you change? Would you add something? Take something out of your Challenge list? Or would you not change a thing?
31) Thursday – How did you do? Did you make it? What were you able to finish? Was it a glorious experience? Or was the last month complete and utter torture? Do you feel like you were sufficiently challenged? Are you going to hunt me down and do horrible things to me for making this Challenge? Please don’t. I love you.

PS - If you aren't able to film every day, that's fine, too! Just follow along and answer the daily questions below, or on the WarbossTae Facebook page, and update when you can!

ROLL CALL OF HONOR

devilspr0d1gy https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdrM21QqS_QJFnr1ggOmhPw
Devil's Prodigy is one of my favorite youtubers. He's also a great guy, so check out his August Painting Challenge! That's right! He's doing the Challenge in August, and not July, and chronicling it by the day number! If you haven't joined up yet, but still want to give it a go, this is the way to do it! Some awesome Orcs and Goblins action in this project. I especially love that Sqwigg Dwarfchoppa (or whatever its called) from Avatars of War! And the Kings of War Trolls look pretty mean as well. Get over there and watch his videos! =D

feralstryke https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJirHo52wtGuT279expMUJA
Boar Boyz! Also, Squig Hoppers and some Sneaky Gits. Even though he's going to be missing most of the month because of work, I have to give feral pride of place in this list because he's been participating in the July Painting Challenge since I started it 3 years ago. He's a great guy, I hope one day to toast with him a frothy mug of Bugman's Best (or Fungus Beer, the dirty git) and talk about all the ridiculousness of this month-long Challenge. Go give him a sub, if you're not already!

Ringo Simpkins https://www.youtube.com/user/RingoSimpkins
With cup of tea firmly in hand, Ringo jumps back in for another year of madness in the July Painting Challenge! This time, he's painting a bunch of 6mm Romans! Infantry, Archers, Cavalry, Auxiliaries, Legionnaries, and Ballista, enough to make an Imperial Army around 250 in the Army List Book. I am also looking forward to seeing what he does with his Ancient British chariots, those models look amazing. Add to that some 15 mm Greek figures for good measure, and some other odds and ends, and Ringo's got a great project to follow. Swell fellow, check him out!

MegaTimHo https://www.youtube.com/user/MegaTimHo
This guy is an inspiration. His project last year was fantastic: a Stompa from start to finish, AND he answered all of the Daily Questions and Secondary Objectives! This year, he's attempting quantity over quality, and will be painting 31 models, throughout the month. Unfortunately, he'll be away on assignment for work for some of the month, but at least he'll continue filming, so even though we might not get a lot of hobby updates, we'll still hear from him for the Daily Questions. Great guy, super friendly and encouraging, and one of the coolest chaps I know.

Jonavic H https://www.youtube.com/user/jonasmaxdeath
JONAS!!! He has a gift with painting up Dark Angels, as anyone who follows his FB page will testify, 14 Dark Angels and a Rhino is his commitment for July. Go there, hit that subscribe button, and give him a "Thank you!" for starting up my facebook page, creating the banner for it, AND making the cover art for the podcast on iTunes. This guy is amazing!

Wargamers Society https://www.youtube.com/user/WarGamersSociety
A July Painting Challenge participant from last year who didn't get to finish his project, he's giving it another shot this year! Work is also a big part of his life, as with many of ours, so he's setting the bar a smidge lower this year, which I think is a great idea to achieve the objective (I should've taken this example with my own project...) He's going to be getting in some Warmachines Legion of Everblight, and I'm excited to see his project develop (at the time of writing this, he hasn't gotten his models in yet)

Nerdopolis Prime https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOYScO_M3OIlMv0XK6kK_JQ
Legion of Everblight, a WHOLE lot of Infinity stuff (so much I couldn't keep track and will be waiting for his next upload to see it all up close, even though he's only shooting for 50%) for Haqqerslam, Aussie Ork ork stuffs (ooo that eBay goodness!), Mike Scott Tyranids, 250 subs entries! So much awesome variety! I will be looking forward to all of these videos, buddy! Give him a sub, y'alls!

Shane Smyth https://www.youtube.com/user/longlance67
Shane is painting up some 28 mm historical figures, and they look amazing! I just subscribed to him, and you should, too! Best of luck to you, Shane! When I'm not mired down in vieos to watch, I am definitely going to catch up with your past videos! =D

Joanna McArthur https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXh7xZ4fkRTh6rE4xpBTiEA/videos
Hahahaha! Lord of the Rings miniatures! Joanna started painting at the tender age of 8, and has some Lord of the Rings miniatures that she's going to take from bare metal and basecoats to completion with highlights! New YouTuber here, so go and support her channel and bomb her with encouragement and comments!

WarGamerSociety https://www.youtube.com/user/WarGamersSociety
Magic Hat beer close by, we're waiting for some eBay purchases (Black Orcs, HQ, Goblin Shamans) to come in to start WarGamerSociety's project. He also has a South Shore Hobby Table coming in that looks absolutely fantastic. Hopefully the figures come in by this Friday 4/4, and when they do, the project will begin in earnest. Drop in now, give him a sub while we wait, and say hi!

CheeseNinjaTabletop https://www.youtube.com/user/CheeseNinjaTabletop
Jeff's doing a lot of 6mm figures, and they look great! Not committing to a full project, but really just finishing off some of his to-do list. Go check him out, because he was one of the most active members of the Challenge last year and its great to catch up with him! Send him a sub and if you play guitar or drums, jam along with him, because he's an electric bassist! Whoa!!!

Wortiger https://www.youtube.com/user/Wortiger
2 Deathwing Landraiders! AND what looks like a crazy FW super heavy for his Death Korps! One of the greatest projects in last year's Challenge, he's finishing a very crazy work contract for the first two weeks in July, so he won't be able to do as much as he has in the past, but I know it's going to be amazing, when he has the time to put in. He's a great guy, so sub him if for some reason you're not already!

Paul Pham https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkQJYQp6ex3nJILpg2cb6ng
ARGH! Storm Troopers! A squad of 11 painted up as an homage to the old ps2 Fire Warrior game sounds like a great project! Get over to this channel and subscribe him. He's got a camera crew of two pink grots named Dr. Doom and Chopper. A great guy, talented painter, very entertaining, go support him!!!

OWiseOwl https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9DQTtoAx9lNehfWZPUvy2A
Another Veteran of the July Painting Challenge, WiseOwl will be tackling a Beastmen Battalion Box with extra Bestigors on top of that. I absolutely LOVE when someone tackles these larger sets and tries to get them from sprue to finish in the month. Definitely looking forward to this one. Get over there and give him a sub if you're not already!!!

Eirebrush Wargaming https://www.youtube.com/user/twiggyntuc
Lots of great stuff in this project log, so check it out! Organized into boxes by week, these models (mostly Tau, but also some Nurglenators, or Nurgle Terminators) look like a LOT of fun to get into. And Farsight Enclaves are a super fun color scheme to paint.

Daniel Sprinkle https://www.youtube.com/user/feanor311
A new participant, A whole unit of 32 (8 ranks of 4) Macedonian Flange Knights (???sp??? That could be wrong, I have no idea what they're actually called...) by Warlord Games. Another smaller range (15mm? I don't know anything!!!), they look really, really nice and I wish him the best of luck!

Tookeywhy https://www.youtube.com/user/Tookeywhy
A Challenge veteran who was a big participant last year, this time he's tackling a light infantry company (1500 pts) of Flames of War, and what is his faction? Finns! WHAAAAAT?!?! Awesome! So much great looking figures that I am tempted to paint, definitely check this guy out if you are interested in Flames of War or want to see a cool channel with a cool guy that always puts out fun videos!

Marshal Olgin https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyuQ_jl16_kJy5q4l9sF2jg
A VERY ambitious project for July, Marshal Olgin will be building and painting the entire 3rd Company of Imperial Fists, from Lysander all the way down the ranks to the humble tacical marine, much of the inspiration for this project will be from the Sentinels of Terra supplement, and I definitely look forward to seeing this project go along. Give him a sub and drop him a comment! =D

matthew snow https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVaQWxrTxqW7ddf3DQUhoTw/feed
More orks than you can shake a stick at! Give him a sub and see how his WAAAGH! shapes up over the course of July. Seriously. He's got MULTIPLE mobs of 30 slugga or shoota boyz that are ready for the brush. Best of luck to you, sir!

PlayItPainted https://www.youtube.com/user/TheEbonstar
Ebonstar is a July Painting Challenge first timer, and this project is one that I'm REALLY looking forward to! Anima Tactics, Super Dungeon Explorer, Hell Dorado, Relic Knights, SOOO much fantastic stuff to look forward to. This month will see a LOT of Relic Knights, with a lot of other non-GW action, which he's also taking to the FLIPPIN' SAN DIEGO COMIC CON!!! His first video shows off a 2x2 Super Dungeon Explorer dungeon that just looks amazing. I am really glad I found this channel! Nice, friendly, energetic guy and definitely worth checking out!!!

oodyswe https://www.youtube.com/user/oodyswe
A painting project with some really cute figures for a boardgame called Mice and Mystics. This is another Challenge veteran that has finished the entire month in the past. He is a great guy, and I'm proud to know him. Also, bro, I'm so jealous that you'll be hanging out with Tristan in August!!!

Thomas Alden https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEwLCvKQTzhtrYLfu_J8xPQ
Thomas is a new hobbyist with a hobbyist's Mount Everest to climb: paint up 51 (combination of Space Marine tactical squad, 3 heavy weapon teams, and Wargames Factory figures that can easily proxy as Death Korps of Krieg ) figures before the end of the month. He has set the bar high, and I'm going to cheer him on. Join me!

spungemurphy https://www.youtube.com/user/spungemurphy
Arjac Rockfist, a Warboss from Black Reach, and a Corpse Cart are on the menu for spunge. He's a great guy that's been a huge supporter of my channel for years, so get over there and give him a sub. Sounds like he's got a great project started! Last year he did the High Elves from Island of Blood, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with these three!

Xefa https://www.youtube.com/user/Xefaa
He's back! One of the most impressive projects last year, he took something like 100 zombies from a paint stripping bath to completion. And, he was a new YouTuber, which makes me feel like a proud father, to look at how far he's come posting in a year. Sit through the torture of his first video (not because its bad, but because he sets us up for his July Painting Challenge project reveal!) and get ready for more Vampire Count goodness! =D

War Painter https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0PBBMECv7yS_i-4oPgwtyA
He's doing Twitch and live streaming, and all sorts of craziness! I'm really excited to see the projects that he's got lined up for the month of July! Among them, painting and filming tutorials for 1) Beastmen Bray Shaman 2) Saurus Standard Bearer 3) A Big Gross Thrall (from warmachine, I think? Its so cool, I want one now...) and a Stretch Goal of a Stormwall. Best of luck, buddy!

Warchef Andi https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGXgupRqp-9TUJyQ_tSRBzA
After inspiring the world with his work on the Death Korps of Krieg last year, he's back in the action, this time with a mountain of Empire troopers, including Flagellants, Leitpold the Black, and Bretonnian knights that will be converted into Empire knights. Don't forget that Forgeworld goodness! Nuln Ironsides and Manaan's Blades round out a fantastic project for July. Check it out, foo's!

Patrick Gaumond https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjiSWeNGbIFvlHBgjGTwTfQ
A cool little project for some Khador Kayazy assassins. I think they are some nice sculpts, and Patrick is a new participant so, definitely check him out. I especially dig the Wardog model he painted up and showcased in his first video. Give him a sub!

GamerHead1 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWHuBD3W_WsHsbU19WurPRQ
20 Warriors of Chaos are a worthy challenge, and they can still be built up, to a maximum of 32. Add in 16 Marauders, some Knights, Marauder Horsemen, and a Champion, and you've got a great little warband. Also, if he finishes soon enough, some Beatmen allies as extra credit could also be joining them.

pincho50 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0V7d-1OT-ucCdTc3-kFQ4w
This guy has a great project lined up: painting some of the most dynamically posed and characteristic figures from the Island of Blood starter set for Warhammer Fantasy. Head over there and give him a sub, because its been a while since I've seen some good Island of Blood paint jobs, and I'm really looking forward to this!

Michael Morris https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCh6AXWQrTZWHPP1vNZq0QUg
Michael was a participant last year but went dark before he could finish. I'm glad he's trying it again this year. Best of luck with his Dark Angels, which are painted up in an amazingly crisp and clean Angels of Redemption color scheme. Definitely check him out if you're a DA player, as he's doing a lot of Dark Vengeance minis for the Challenge!

Fulcrum Starbinder https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtI0f-IznTC23XolNjExyjA
A new participant that is doing an awesome project of Dwarfs (including a fantastic Thane on a Scibor decorative base and some Gyrocopters), and some really neato Reaper Fairy models. Check him out and give him a sub! He's a relatively new producer filming from JAPAN!!!! =D

ZeDarkPenguin https://www.youtube.com/user/ZeDarkPenguin
An Imperial Guard project worthy of the ages! Infantry, Tauroxes, Chimeras, and heavy weapons. Including some Pig Iron conversion heads with helmets and tactical face masks, this is going to be one fun project to follow. Well done and best of luck this month, Penguin!

dornsapothecary https://www.youtube.com/user/dornsapothecary
A fledgling Waaagh from a dedicated gamer and hobbyist, I believe I first met dornsapothecary last year through the Painting Challenge last year (here on DakkaDakka, no less!), and I am really excited that he's joined up for this year's JPC. Go and subscribe to him NAAAAOOOO!!!

DiceMiniaturePaintGuy https://www.youtube.com/user/kimal79
A great guy and veteran participant in the Challenge, I'm looking forward to seeing what he does this year! He also has the cutest kids this side of the Atlantic, and I'm really happy that he films his videos the way he does (real slice of life stuff!)

OMG you guys, it's right around the corner! Hope you all are ready! Any of you participating in the Warm Up, here are the 3 videos to prep with!

PS - Dornsapothecary, I can't wait til you crack open that box o models, buddy!
