Subject: Space Hulk - Ascension dev. diary vid #2 Page2
It's the Steam summer sale, so EVERYTHING is on sale pretty much. Everything from the classic Dawn of War series, to the rather good Space Marine, to the utter garbage Storm of Vengeance lane strategy game is on sale for wicked cheap right now.
Space Hulk is a game about how terrible it would be if you and all your friends were the size of refridgerators, and you all lived in a house made of hallways so you had to walk everywhere single file, and the house contained an unlimited amount of aliens that wanted to kill you.

That is brilliant
Much better price point for the game, wish I had paid that much for it rather than being stung as an early adopter!

My god this is amazing. I'm going to steam gift that guy
Good idea. Why not gift him space Hulk, I'll bet he'd really enjoy it!
"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." Space Hulk is currently one of the Flash sales on Steam - $4.74 will get you the base game, $13.59 will get you the base game plus all three downloadable campaigns and three skins. Good price, without a doubt.

I'd never considered the game that way!
Really? That was one of my first thoughts back when I bought Space Hulk the table top back in '96. "Wait, if Space Hulks are made entirely of narrow corridors and Genestealers have claws that make Terminator armour useless... why in the hell would you send in Terminators instead of Tactical Marines who could actually move about properly?"
Anyway, I bought the Space Hulk video game when it was on sale for about $10 a while back now. It's basically just the table top game in video game format, the AI is pretty stupid and only does the most obvious moves and often spawns stealers in stupid places, but I got a bit of fun out of it.
If you go in to it knowing that and wanting that, it's not too bad.

Why can't GW get them do to all their promotional material?
I bet the Orks release would sell 4x as much.
No madam, 40,000 is the year that this game is set in. Not how much it costs. Though you may have a point. - GW Fulchester The Gatling Guns have flamethrowers on them because this is 40k - DOW III

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

A cinematic trailer is nothing but fluff and ideas. Won't be doing anything until I see actual gameplay. It's too easy to be dishonest in a game trailer nowadays.

It's done in-engine though, which is more than most games we saw at E3 this year. That's at least using assets from the game itself and not some admittedly pretty but misleading pre-rendered stuff.

I have to disagree. I'd go with that it is in-engine sure, but let's be honest, we are not going to see anything like this and you know it.

No.. but its post rendered to buggery... just like any fmv sequence in almost any game. When the graphics hardware doesnt need to process it live on the fly to account for any player interactions, everything can be scripted, polished, tweaked and made crisp and shiny with any and all jag's smoothed out, perhaps even extra entirely more detailed animations.
Edit; remember Half-Life? ...(I'm fairly sure) That was the first one to be 100% ingame engine without post processing. And remained the only one for some years.

No, Half-Life 1 or 2 early previews do not fall into the 100% in game. There were a lot of tricks used to simulate it being a playable game. Half-Life 2 was particularly guilty of this, their earliest demos were nothing like the game we got. That said, the games were both still fantastic, so it worked out for them in the end.
Also, this game is going to be on the PS4/XB1 hardware spec. Those are the actual graphics in the game, I know this because artist friends and I have made real-time game graphics look better than what they've shown.
Heck, the models and assets in this trailer are actually pretty low res at this point.

Full Control’s grand dream for Space Hulk was to recreate the beloved Games Workshop boardgame. It got off to a rocky start. Patching did a lot for bugs (though can’t change that it doesn’t have that cardboard feel), and today They say it’s a fairly solid adaptation. So having made Space Hulk, Full Control want to make a different Space Hulk.
Today they announced Space Hulk: Ascension Edition, a standalone new version boshing in a load of RPG bits, new stuff, and Ultramarines, who do at least bring Cyclone missile launchers to compensate for being so dull.
Ascension Edition’s main change is whacking in an RPG layer, with squads built of characters who earn XP and level up attributes and skills and whatnot. Hugely massively importantly, Terminators are customisable now, with all sorts of shiny bits to change the look of their armour–tabletop heritage and all that. Also you can rename them, to see your best mate horribly slaughtered. Other new things: combi-weapons, short mini-missions, genestealer variants, and those Ultramarines.
It seems to include all that DLC with the base game, packing 100 missions across Blood Angel, Space Wolves, and Ultramarine campaigns.
Space Hulk: Ascension Edition is due some time between October and the end of the year. Trailer:
