The following are some pictures taken from my iphone (only camera I have) and I would like some feedback. My OCD comes out reaaaally bad when I paint my minis. It's a really bad OCD too...

Anyways...please let me know what you think! I'm in the middle of 3 separate squads. A jump pack assault squad, a non jump pack, and my death company. I switch between squads to get a variety when painting.

The lighting is kind of bad and it looks red in areas that a'rent actually painted red! I think its the light from the red table! Makes it hard to see all the orange highlighting I did. Thanks for the feedback guys and I will attempt to get better pictures sometime this week!

I think they look good. The detail really make the models stand out. And nice yellow helmets.

They look good, the lighting does make it difficult to distinguish some colors. I would suggest doing the bases in green or grays to contrast the reds, and yellows, but with the lighting it's hard to tell.

I personally think the bases should in every way contrast the model's colors, ie Ork bases shouldn't ever be in greens, something like browns, grays etc. Just my opinion. Looks like a dark brown wash as the base under those rocks, I'm not sure, but the same dark color would work as the edge of the base perhaps.

But really, I do like the work you've done!! Great work on the free hand writing! Nice layering!

When you take photos- try to use a white background (just a box with a few sheets of paper inside will do)- shine a light in there and get snapping

Very nice work on those, the lines are neat, the colours are strong and the composition is nicely balanced. Great stuff!

OH-I Wanna get out of here

Painting looks great! I'd suggest cleaning the models better before hand though, I see mold lines and plastic tabs where the parts were attached to the sprue.

The bases are balor brown, the old snakebite leather. the top is made of little rocks that are glued down, washed with null oil, then drybrushed over with bleached bone. Im seriously going to try the shoebox with white paper for pictures that sounds like a fantastic idea, and my little lamp will work well for lighting the inside. As for the mold spots yes I probably should take more time to clean them up. That close up of the one assault guy has a big one right on his shoulder pad. Thanks again for the comments guys.

Nice and clean, the yellow rim of the base really isn't working for me however.

After viewing some of the comments and doing some research I think the bases could be a better color. I never really payed much attention but as I keep staring at them its now bothering me... haha go figure. problem is I don't have any extra bases at the moment. These models are all varnished.... and stripping or trying to redo these bases would be a really big pain. Secondly, I could just use a different color for the bases here on out. Just leave these as is and do something different for the rest of the army. but then these models shown wont match the rest of the armies bases. Would that look like crap or what? Should I attempt to just repaint the rims and hope they don't come out too thick? I like the idea of a dark grey, but I am somewhat color blind so I can't visualize how that is going to look with the bleach bone rocks and grass. any suggestions?

I don't think you need to redo the bases, just choose a darker colour to paint around the base edge. A dark brown or even black would be better. The top of the base is fine, it's just the yellow/brown rim that is distracting (it was the first thing that drew my eye)

Apologies again for the camera and or lighting, nothing has changed there. However, I redid the base edges and painted them black. Very different from what I had and I'm still undecided, but maybe you guys can give me your thoughts again.

Here we go gentlemen.

BAM! Nice! Anytime you have a protective coat on the model I do beleive you can still touch up or paint over it, maybe not so much the shiny thick varnish though, I use the flat clear spray so it's no problem for me.

thank you! I painted black and followed with a layer of ard coat, then I used a matte liqueur spray and just aimed at the bases so they weren't glossy.

here is another cool close up of the assault serg.
Im going to have to work on better pics. the lighting just isnt doing them justice. Its blending in most of the highlighting I did. But you can see some around his arm and whatnot

They seem to look good, but your pictures are WAYYYYYYY to bright on the top of the models, the color gets washed out so I can't give an actual critique.

Jealous of those helmets, I forgot what series of armor they come from, pig faced helmets? I like those over my all time favorite Mk 6 Beakies.

These look really good!

The darker edges on the bases look better, I also do mine a dark brown.

Your photos are still quite over exposed, so the flash is bleaching out a lot of the details, but you can still see they are very nicely painted.

Try taking your pictures in future against a large sheet of white paper curved against a wall in order to get a nice seamless backdrop.

My personal opinion is to take your photos at night, as natural sunlight also adds to over exposure. Use a nice bright lamp as a light source shinning to the front and slightly on top of your minis.

Don't worry about the bases too much, as long as the base edges match the rest of your army they will blend in nicely.

Really good job!

Blood Angels have red helmets on Tactical Marines, yellow on Assault Marines, and blue on Devastators.

Nice work on these guys! The red is deep, the shading is good, and the highlights are super crisp. My only complaint is the yellow-brown rim on their bases. I'd go with either a darker earthy color or a Goblin Green.
