So I'll be buying ice storm when the preorder opens. I want to pick up a few models that will go well with each faction included in the box. Don't know too much about pan o or nomad units, and wondered what the good people of dakka would recommend?

Well, not knowing what you want, recommendations are rather tough to give.

Plus a civvie if you pre-order. Best guess would be to look at models with special weapons-- spifires, Heavy machine guns, and the like. There are all sorts of rumors about hacking being changed. You could also consider a support box -- it has a doctor an engineer and 2 helper bots. I'm not too familiar with the specifics for vanilla Pan-O or vanilla nomads. I only play the Acontecimento Pan-O sectorial.

Well the Corrigidor Box would go well with the Nomad side since 4 of the 7 models are in their sectorial. Pan O side is a bit more open.

There IS a new sectorial coming for PanO - something to keep in mind.

That said, vanilla or MO for the panO stuff. Unless the Svarlaheima sectorial for PanO ups the AVA on Orcs and Nisse (as it probably will).

No idea for the nomads. The closest I get to nomads is QK.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Currently the general PanO force loves Auxilia, Acontecimento Regulars with minelayer, Sierra, Konstantinos, Doctor and Engineer, Kamau Hacker, Rao, AD with HMG.

The problem is that currently HI and TAG aren't among the strong choices and we have no clue what N3 plans to do about it. The upper choices should be solid.

You can't go wrong with Nomads, as long you maintain decent order pool for your meta you can't go wrong with them.

What I would like, is 'fluffy' forces initially. I already have small aleph and tohaa forces, so I'd like to have each faction to reflect its 'flavour'. I am also a sucker for cheesecake female models, and snipers...

I may just buy the support boxes for both factions.

For Nomads, going to add a Tomcat Doc + Zondcat and Riot Grrl Spitfire at least, then probably interventors of some sort and some more things to use the SWC.

Sorry, newbie here: are these going to be all new sculpt? And if so, any pics yet?

Apparently all new. None have been revealed, though the cover has the artwork of what the models will be wearing.

As much as the new Heavy Infantry are cool, the real winners for me here are the new line infantry.

I'd put off starting vanilla Pan-O for ages due to not really being keen on some of the Fusilier sculpts. Well, no longer, think these are a massive improvement.

Loving the brigada, reverent healer, commando and mercenary sculpts. Some great stuff in there.

Gonna use these to try and raise my painting game!

I'm so glad that QK can take Mobile Briganda and Alguacles, because I do not need a fourth faction and those Nomads are too good to pass up

Personally, I'm hoping they remove them from QK. Mobile Brigada and Alguaciles were fine before Kaplans and Druze were all part of that list.

I hear that. Icestorm isn't helping me not start a correigor force at the same time (wanted them and vanilla or mo pan o for a while )

Sadly, all of the female miniatures here suck for various reasons, especially their posing. The only one whose pose I like is the CSU, but then well, that CSU lady looks more dressed for a porn shoot than she does for either corporate work OR security work.

Which is of course subjective. I think the female models in particular look great. They're not 'looking down the barrel iron sights' combat posed, but they're not typical CB pinups either. Well, aside from the CSU model, which is both 'looking down the barrel iron sights' combat posed and a typical CB pinup.

But also complaining that Infinity female look a bit sexualised is like complaining that water is wet. it's just how they roll.

Just because they have a habit of making crap when it comes to female miniatures is no reason for me to not express my dislike of the new models.

Whilst I'm not against the female poses, I hear where you're coming from. There's not many female models in the firing pose that the guys often are. Their arms are often spread just to show off their chesticles. I mean sure, nice but I know you have them. So you don't have to slap me in the face with them either.

Crap is still subjective. Some people like it. Some people don't.

I get not liking the pose, or the sexualised nature of them. But just giving a 'those are crap' statement is going to get a reaction (some might even say trolling). Technically, they are fantastic sculpts when considering the detail in the model. Whether you care for the aesthetic or not doesn't make the sculpt 'crap', it just means they're not your cup of tea.

As Loki says globally
The CSU is indeed wearing a very short attire, but she's supposed to pass as a personnal assistant to powerful men in the future ... It's probably a pretty accurate look for such a job (whether it's a good thing or not is another story)
The 2 female line troopers (and the Reverend too) aren't wearing particularly revealing outfits and aren't in lascive positions either
They are definitely "cute" and not "buff", but Infinity's look is based on manga, so that's what we should have been expecting

What is it particularly about the female Aguacile? She has the same outfit, and is in a command pose as the males. (The Fusilier has no backpack and tighter trousers though).

Or the reverend healer, who has no male equivalent really.

Since people are bothering me for an explanation... meh...

The reverend has too much cleavage for either a reverend, a doctor, OR a soldier. The Aguacile is posed less like a commander and more like a stripper doing a pole dance, and from the look of it, they only begrudgingly gave her a rifle as an afterthought. If they wanted a commanding pose, they failed miserably. The female fusilier is completely off-balance and they're showing the side of her midriff for no discernible reason other than blatant fanservice, just like the fact taht her ass is shoved out (and focused on in one of the images shown, no less). The CSU has a reasonable pose given the awkward weapon she's firing-- her off-hand held back as a counter-weight so she can better aim her briefcase-gun, it looks kind of nice actually-- but she is dressed less like an office worker or soldier and more like a pornstar, as if someone crossed a porno's "nurse" uniform with another porno's "catholic schoolgirl" uniform.

There's not much else to say. They aren't models I'd use to represent soldiers.

the Mothership...

No one is complaining about the suggestive open pelvic groin thrusting pose of the mobile brigada along with the "self service" sculpting motion of the left hand? It's like staring at a heavily armored chippendale dancer!

I think we all need to talk a deep breath (away from the whiff of cheesecake and beefcake of course) and just think of the minis we do like.

I hope any discussion here will be related to the question of what models will go well with the starter set!

I can appreciate why some don't like the overly sexualised women in infinity. The men are also a bit beefcaked up, but then they are all meant to be souped up futuristic supersoldiers I suppose. I like the aesthetic that some of the aleph models have, but I've painted them to look inhuman - pure white instead of flesh tones, a bit like irobot, to give that robotic vibe. I particularly love the Asura that comes in the Aleph starter. Her pose is just hard as nails, like she just doesn't give a toss, because she KNOWS she's harder than you...

Anyhoo, in the end, I went for a pair of wildcats to accompany the nomads (HMG and hacker), and a HMG knight fella and the ltd edition bolt to accompany Pan-o. Now that I have four factions in various stages of readiness, I'd better pull my finger out and get painting!

I hasten to add, I filed the pointy nipples off my Asura - it was just a bit too much for me. Improved the model no end in my opinion...

Yes, at the risk of ignoring the posts that off-topic posts that do to this thread what the EPA does to hallways, I would genuinely like to hear what people think constitutes a good "next step" for people that want to build on the models in Operation: Icestorm.

What ideas would people think works well for Nomads? For PanO?

Any ideas how best to go into sectorals for these? Vanilla lists?

I'm thinking adding hmg, sniper, spitfire, hacker, doctor where lacking. Then I'll probably add tags. Not because they are amazing or anything, but because I love the idea of giant killer robots.

Also, the vanilla support packs look useful.

For Sectorials? It's going to vary wildly.
Are you wanting to do Corregidor for Nomads? If so, you're in good hands with this box. Add in the Corregidor Jurisdictional Command starter pack and you have a pretty nice selection of models to play with. You will be ONE model short for a full Alguaciles Link Team but you can buy the Dire Foes set and get Lupe Balboa to fill in that last Link Team slot while having the Wildcats to wreak havoc by themselves.
Bakunin? You're pretty boned. You get the Reverend Healer...maybe. There is always the possibility that she is going to be part of Tunguska/Black Hand.
The upcoming Tunguska sectorial from Acheron Falls? Again, you're in good hands. The Grenzer and Spektr both are CONFIRMED for Tunguska meaning you get a pair of what seem to be skirmishing badasses. All you need to do is wait for the inevitable Tunguska starter pack later on and you'll be adding in two gorgeous looking models. The Grenzer gives you a Multispectral Visor and a MULTI Sniper Rifle while the Spektr gives you Thermooptic Camouflage and an Infiltrator to boot.

Vanilla is basically "throw whatever the hell you want in and call the job a good one", in my opinion, and I really dislike it as a playstyle. I really wish they would just move towards Sectorials and call it end of story.

PanOceania?
You're not really going to be able to make ANY Sectorial forces from this box.
You get three Fusiliers who I guess could be used as stand-in Aconticemento Regulars along with the Akalis Sikh Commando for an Aconticemento Shock Army. ASA cannot take Fusiliers at all but Regulars are just Fusiliers by a different name.
The Fusiliers can also be part of the Neoterran Sectorial--but I'm personally more fond of Bolts for a Link Team. They can theoretically be used for the Knightly Orders as well, but why would you take them instead of Order Sergeants or the Linkable Knights?

ORCs and Nisses are supposed to be part of the Svalarheima Sectorial so there is another two models that can be combined with the inevitable starter pack later on for a Heavy Infantry and MSV skirmisher with MSR.

The Father Knight is pretty much guaranteed to be part of the Knightly Orders and potentially Svalarheima if he's a Hospitaller.
