So I'm building my own Catalogues for Battlescribe, and I noticed something interesting.

Per the Command Squad rules, you may take one Command Squad for each Captain, Librarian, or Chaplain in your army (including named variants).

However, Terminator Captains are not listed.

Per strict RAW, Terminator Captains do not unlock Command Squads, as we all know, Terminator Captain =/= Captain.

So now I'm curious. Do tournaments allow this, and does the army building app that GW released with the SM codex all those months ago allow it?

I know Army Builder allows it, but of course that is AB, and cannot always be trusted.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

GW's thing is a force requisition (model collection) tool, not an army builder. Meaning, you can't actually construct an army list with it, you just are able to enter your models into it to kind of keep track of how many points each unit you own is worth. There is absolutely no validation because you aren't able to build any kind of army list with it.

Second, the rule for the Command Squad says for each Captain, Librarian or Chaplain, but then goes on to mention in parenthesis that this includes all special characters that fall into these categories as well. Therefore, although poorly written from a RAW standpoint, I think we can safely assume that the rule is talking about the rank of Captain in this case rather than the actual Captain unit entry, especially as a Captain like Lysander is most definitely equipped with Terminator armor.

Point 1, did not know that about that app (I know it got brought up back when we were discussing whether or not Apothecary could take optional wargear).

Point 2, I agree that the intent does appear to be allowed. As I said, strict RAW would appear to be a no, which is why I was curious if this ever came up at a tournament.

For the record, as far as I'm concerned, unless somebody posts evidence otherwise, the catalogue will allow it (and I wouldn't say anything in game, competitive or otehrwise).

I would think the RAI is its allowed, as Lysander (Terminator Captain of the Imperial Fists can).
