Evidently something new from Bioware. It appears to be Modern Horror. There's a video on the website, but nothing else.

Yeah, I'm a little curious about this one too. Most likely to be psychological horror.
A huge step in another direction, but I'm divided on whether to think it will be good or bad.

Yeah, I'm excited for it. It's Bioware, the only game of theirs I still haven't played is Dragon Age 2 and I loved all the others. I'm pumped for a horror game made by Bioware!

Ditto, though I disliked DA 2 myself, just felt too off from the first one.

So a live action trailer for a video game is supposed to get me excited?

Am perplexed.

Oh, cool. I'd be interested to see Bioware's approach to a horror game. Will keep track of this.

There are rumours that this is being developed in conjunction with Failbetter Games if so this may actually be interesting.

It's a free-to-play game.

They appear to be slowly winding up an augmented reality game to viral market it, which is ground trod already trod by Funcom for their horror-ish MMO, The Secret World.

How could I forget about the awesome Bioware romances!

Talk -> Gift -> Quest -> Sex

I liked it. ^_^

Still hate, hate, HATE the Mass Effect 3 ending, though...

Bioware really needs to relearn the value of the infamous "cut to black".

So I wonder if it'll have character creation options, or if you'll be playing stuck as that douchebag.

Bioware is the best developer of RPGs in modern times, so I hope they haven't dropped that entirely...

Combat has never been a strong point of modern Bioware. Mass Effect was horribly balanced and combat was fully generic, Dragon Age 2 was a gameplay mess and had an extremely poorly written story with one-dimensional characters and usual dosis of slapped-on homosexuality. Mass Effect 3 was ok story-wise until the end - any game that needs a suddenly appearing plot exposition is basically saying "We suck at storytelling!".

I blame EA and David Gayder. Dragon Age: Origins was awesome and a true masterpiece of modern gaming. The only change it needed was more dynamic combat with hit feedback etc. Instead, they went 180°, removed all strategy and tactic from a combat and jumped straight to HERPDERP I WANT TO BE A DRAGON.

...and really, the Bioware wheel. Want to know how actual decision-making works? Witcher series. Bioware SUCKS at it. A lot. If there always is a perfect solution for any problem (that mostly requires having X in stat Y), then there is no conflict.

They portrayed totallynot Shepherd and Femshep in the trailer, iirc.

Which trailer? The Nightmare trailer focuses on some forgettable white guy, and only shows his wife/gf/whatever reacting to him waking up with a scream in the last couple seconds.

If I hadn't known better I would have thought it was the trailer of some bland summer b-list horror movie.

It's not off to a good start right now...

To me, it looked like a typical "Early Access" Steam indie horror game trailer.

I would imagine that there will be character creation options. The last Bioware game where you couldn't engage in character customization was, what, MDK2? Oh, wait, there was a Sonic game, as well.

Even Baldur's Gate allowed customization.

Also, according to the company's Wikipedia page, this appears to be a game called "Shadow Realms". Unfortunately, there's no source information for the name.

And it's a basic teaser trailer. "Hey, guys, we're doing something. It's too early to start building up enthusiasm, but we're giving you a heads up that we've got a horror game on the way."

DA2 gets a lot unnecessary hate, but the game is too short and the setting is woefully underdeveloped. It's a middle of the road quality game from a developer that usually publishes much better.

Well...

(and I say this as a fan of DA2)

If DA2 had been followed by something *other* than ME3, people probably wouldn't be so hesitant regarding another Bioware game. If you release one disappointing game, then you can show that it was just a hiccup by releasing a good game. But Bioware followed up the unpopular DA2 with the spectacular disaster known as "Mass Effect 3's ending". Back to back problems like that are the sort of thing that make people start to wonder whether a game developer has lost its magic.

DA2s biggest problem is that it had to follow Origins, which was a truly amazing game, which was in development for a long time. I honestly think DA2 was rushed out the door to launch before skyrim, which is why the environments were reused and one companion in particular was bugged to hell.

Fixed (as someone who is not a fan of DA2 )

That said, DA2 was also a truly mediocre game, not just by Bioware's standards but the entire genre. EA had no faith in DAO which they let Bioware foot most of the bill for, but when it blew in popularity they just shoveled DA2 out the door in barely a year's time, so it's not entirely Bioware's fault the game came out in such a poor state.

ME3 might have had a terribad ending, cause really its a whole new level when you make a Deus Ex Machina literally a god in a machine, but it was a much better game than DA2 or ME2. For a lot of people though it's more Bioware's new style than that their games are bad. They've been pushing a more streamlined role playing game and reducing a lot of the clutter of the genre. Issue is some people like the clutter as defining what the genre is. SO of course the faith of more old school RPG gamers has been fading as Bioware has stopped making iterations of such games.
